    Activity Requirement: Read the entire thread, and make a meaningful effort to solve the game or pretend to do so. If you have not done this in previous games, you probably shouldn't join this one.
    Setup: Dersehunt Intermission with some new modifications. Read the rest of this post for details.
    Other Notes There are some behavior rules that are different from the MU norms, please check them at the end of this post.


    Overview
    Musical theme // Source Material

    This setup is known as Dersehunt intermission, it was originally created by player goes by x1372. It has been modified by another player known as Acionyx and myself.

    This is a variant of the game "Mafia", where an uninformed majority (aka "Town" or in this game "The Felt") attempt to find and kill members of an informed minority (aka "Mafia" or in this game "The Midnight Crew") hiding among them. During the Day phase, all players, Felt or Midnight Crew, have open discussion and decide how to use a single collectively owned kill "the lynch" by plurality vote (with a tied vote resulting in the kill not being used). During the Night phase, both factions use a variety of abilities in an attempt to gain information, kill members of the opposing team, or otherwise aid their faction.

    This is a no flip setup, which means unlike many similar games, no information will be revealed about a player's role or faction when they die.

    The game ends with a victory for a faction when all members of the other faction are killed, or this is a foregone conclusion.

    Private threads

    Each player will have a private thread for moderator communications / submitting Night actions. If a player wishes, this private thread can be hosted on quicktopic.com instead of Mafia Universe.

    The Midnight Crew will have a joint private thread.


    Mechanics & Keywords
    Anything which is underlined is a keyword with a special game meaning, and is defined here.


    Targetting
    Most powers in Dersehunt: Intermission describe themselves as hitting "target player" or "[restriction] target player". "target player" means "a player of your choice". Additionally, if you chose a player as a "target", you will visit them that Night. So for example, the Quarters role reads:

    "On Nights 1 and 4, you may give a gun to target player"

    If Quarters chooses "Reaverb Tau", Quarters will visit and give a gun to "Reaverb Tau" that Night.

    Visits
    If a role or factional ability requires target, the player using it will visit that target. Additionally, the Matchsticks role will visit the target of the Midnight Crew's factional kill if they choose to use their power.

    The Fin, Stitch, and Sawbuck roles all care about visits.

    Busdriving
    The Droog and Itchy roles are capable of preforming busdrives. All actions targetted on either player in the busdrive will instead be treated as though they targetted the other player in the busdrive.

    This effects both who the player using that actions visits and who the action is preformed upon.

    Busdrives ignore normal restrictions on who is targetted by an action. For example, the Biscuits role can vanish players other than themselves through a busdrive.

    Whenever a player's ability is busdriven to a different target while using their ability they are informed which targets were busdriven, but not who they were busdriven to. So for example if Quarters chooses to give a gun to a player busdriven the same Night, Quarters will learn his target was busdriven but no other information.

    Roleblocks
    If a player is roleblocked they will be unable to use any role or factional abilities that Night, or benefit from any passive abilities. There are a small number of exceptions, which will be called out on those abilities.

    Roleblocks will not prevent players from visting whoever they targetted

    If the player who is roleblocked would have otherwise used an ability which gives them information or has a limited number of uses, that player will be informed they were roleblocked. If a roleblock prevents a player from using an ability with limited uses, they will not expend a use that Night.

    Vanishings
    Various role abilities can cause a player to vanish.

    When a player vanishes, it is announced at the start of the day that they have mysteriously vanished. This is indistinguishable from said player dying in the Night. Players will return from being vanished at the end of following Night.

    If a player who vanishes was targeted by a killing power, that kill will fail to occur.

    While a player is vanished, the game continues as if they were dead, except for the purposes of win conditions.

    The player who was vanished will be privately informed they were vanished and are not dead.

    Guns
    The Quarters role can give out guns.

    Each player who received a gun on the previous Night may kill a target player. If a player with a gun is roleblocked, the gun will have no effect.
    Soup // Cueball Gun // Anti-claim mechanic
    I'm going to refer to this as using the Cueball gun for flavor reasons, but it's almost same mechanic as Soup from TinyHunt, and is completely different from the Cueball gun mechanic from earlier drafts of the game.

    Each Night, instead of using the factional kill, a member of the Midnight Crew may choose to use the Cueball Gun. If they do, that member of the Midnight Crew submits an ordered list of players paired to Felt roles.

    There are three disjoint, exhaustive possibilities for the list, each of which has a separate result:

    Case 1: If the first player on the list does not have the role they were paired with, it will be publicly announced:
    "A member of the Midnight Crew attempted to Cueball kill [Bob] as [Quarters]."
    Where the [] are replaced by the player and the role they were paired with.

    Case 2: If a player other than the first on the list does not have the role they were paired with, each player before them on the list is roleblocked and killed. If multiple players other than the first are mismatched, Ignore the list past the first mismatch Additionally, the Midnight Crew member using the Cueball gun and their failed attempt is publicly revealed, ex:
    "[Alice] of the Midnight Crew attempted to Cueball kill [Bob] as [Quarters]."

    Case 3: If all those players have the roles they were paired with, they are all roleblocked and killed.

    Cueball Gun does not cause the members of the Midnight Crew to visit any players and using this ability cannot be roleblocked or busdriven.



    THE FELT


    The Felt are the "Town" faction of Dersehunt: Intermission. There are fourteen members of the Felt, each with a unique role and ability.

    These descriptions function as the "Role PMs" for each role, and are therefore written in second person.

    Itchy
    Each Night, you may busdrive two other target players

    Fin
    Each night, you may learn who target player visited this Night phase.

    Die
    Once per game at Night, you may vanish target player.

    Crowbar
    Each Night, you may roleblock target player.

    Stitch
    Once per game at Night, you may learn who visited target player. The Midnight Crew will be informed of who you visited at the end of the Night.

    Sawbuck
    The first time you would be killed, you and whoever visited you or your attempted killer will vanish instead.

    Matchsticks
    Each Night, you may choose to visit the player targeted by the Midnight Crew for their factional kill. If you do, you learn the roles of any members of the Felt lynched and killed the previous Day.

    Biscuits
    You begin the game knowing a random other player with a Felt role is your friend.

    Once per game at Night, if your friend has ever been vanished or killed, you may target yourself and make yourself vanish.

    Quarters
    On Night 1 and Night 4, you may give another target player a gun.



    THE MIDNIGHT CREW

    The Midnight crew are the "Mafia" fraction of Dersehunt: intermission.

    All members of the Midnight Crew have the following abilities:

    1) The Midnight Crew begin the game knowing all other members of the faction.
    2) The Midnight Crew has a private chat they may use to talk all other living, non-vanished members of their faction.
    3) Each Night, one member of the Midnight Crew may kill a target player.
    4) Each member of the Midnight Crew may, once per game when they are preforming the factional kill, use their special kill.
    5) The Midnight Crew will be able to use Soup instead of their normal NK. See the Mechanics section of the rules for more details.

    Since the Midnight crew share a private chat, all Night Actions for the Midnight Crew must be submitted within that private chat. All role and factional abilities are shared equally among the Midnight Crew. The Midnight Crew votes in their private chat on what actions to submit, using plurality vote with most recently added vote as a tiebreaker.

    These descriptions function as the "Role PMs" for each role, and are therefore written in second person.

    Diamonds Droog
    Main Power:
    Each Night, you may busdrive two other target players.

    Special Kill:
    On the night you use your special kill, you will not visit the player you kill.

    Clubs Deuce
    Main Power:
    Whenever the Midnight Crew successfully uses their fractional abilities to kill a player during the Night, you learn their role.

    Special Kill:
    On the night you use your special kill, you select two additional target players. If primary target is another member of the Midnight Crew, both your additional murder targets will also be killed.

    Snowman
    Main Power:
    Twice per game at Night, you may make target player vanish. You cannot use your ability for the second time until after the first target has or would have returned.

    Special Kill:
    On the night you use your special kill, your target will be roleblocked as well as killed. Additionally, your kill will occur higher in the priority queue allowing it to overcome vanishings and other effects.


    Advice:

    Each faction and role has advise to help them understand how their most relevant rules function. Reading everybody else's advise may help you play the game, but isn't necessary. Your own advise will appear in your role PM.


    The Felt -
    Play this mostly as a normal mafia game. Try not to hint or leak your role. As a rule of thumb, you should only claim if you believe you can prevent a mislynch (including your own mislynch).

    Day 1 is very important, as it's the only time that a fake claim of a Felt role is guaranteed to be counterclaimed.

    Once the user of the Cueball gun is dead, all living players should claim their roles.

    Itchy -
    Normally you will try to busdrive the Midnight Crew's factional kill on to a player who is going to be lynched soon. Remember that your role can also interfere with Town's roles.

    Sometimes your busdrive can overlap with Droog's.
    If Itchy targets Players A & B, and Droog targets Players B & C, Night actions targeting A will be directed to B, Night actions targeting B will be directed to C, and Night actions targeting C will be directed to A.

    Fin -
    You should carefully read over all role descriptions to help interpret your results.

    Die -
    Normally, you should use your ability as a 1-shot Doctor effect. Remember if you use your power Night 1 or Night 4, your target will not be able to use Quarter's gun.

    Crowbar -
    Generally you want to try to hit a member of the Midnight Crew. Blocking the Midnight Crew kill is strong, although you can not always be sure you were responsible. Remember that roleblocks can't prevent everything, you may want to read over the rules for the Soup and Snowman's special kill.

    Stitch -
    Generally, you want to target a player you believe will be attacked by the Midnight Crew. Remember that Matchstick's drawback and Droog's special kill can interfere with your information.

    Sawbuck -
    A kill is anything which could cause you to die if you were roleblocked. Club's special kill's secondary targets unless the primary target is a member of the Midnight Crew. Guns and other Midnight Crew factional/special kills trigger your ability, although Snowman's gets around it by roleblocking you.

    If multiple players try to kill you on the same Night, your power affects all of them.

    If you go off, you may want to claim upon returning from vanishment. While normally your attacker will vanish with you due to visiting you, Droog's special kill can avoid that.

    Matchsticks -
    Your information is the most powerful Felt can obtain in the game. Your role's drawback interacts with the Fin, Stitch, and Sawbuck roles. Be careful about suddenly changing your mind due to information received from your role - if the Midnight Crew notice, they may be able to use the Cueball Gun on you.

    Biscuits -
    You will learn who your friend is at the end of pregame.

    If you gain your self-vanish, you should use it on a Night you think you will be attacked by the Midnight Crew. Remember if you use your power on Night 4, you will not be able to use Quarter's gun.

    If you are busdriven the Night you use your active ability, the player you are busdriven with will vanish instead.

    Quarters -
    Remember it's possible for your gun delivery or the gun kill to be busdriven away from it's intended target. Despite this, using your ability is almost always correct.

    The Midnight Crew -
    Generally, you will want to play this like a normal Mafia game. Remember that since there are no flips, bussing will be worse than normal.

    When you are about to be lynched, you may wish to fakeclaim a Felt role. This can either to force a counterclaim who can be killed later with Soup, or help you avoid the lynch. The Midnight Crew role abilities are carefully designed to aid fakeclaiming.

    Normally the Midnight Crew should use Special Kills aggressively. Special Kills can't be used after the holder is dead, and achieving overrun without using the Special Kills gives no benefit.

    Diamonds Droog -
    Your ability is complex and has many uses. Generally, you should consider how Fin, Crowbar, Sawbuck, Stitch, and Quarters interact with your busdrives, both when targeting you or one of your targets. Your role is often useful for preventing members of the Felt from proving their role claims.

    Sometimes your busdrive can overlap with Itchy's.
    If Itchy targets Players A & B, and Droog targets Players B & C, Night actions targeting A will be directed to B, Night actions targeting B will be directed to C, and Night actions targeting C will be directed to A.

    Your special kill helps avoid outing yourself to Fin, Stitch, or Sawbuck.

    Clubs Deuce -
    Your role power is helpful for accumulating fakeclaims for the Midnight Crew.

    Remember that your special kill does not have to actually kill your primary target - if they are vanished, the other two kills will still go off.

    Snowman -
    Your main power has a variety of uses, read up carefully on vanishings. You can doctor players, aid a fakeclaim, or silence a player and their vote for a Day. Remember Town will eventually learn your target was vanished, if not what caused it.

    Your special kill will help ensure the player you target dies, although Itchy can still prevent their death.




    Night action priority

    Dersehunt: Intermission using Natural Action Resolution, with two exceptions:
    1) The use of the Cueball Gun always occurs before any other Night Actions.
    2) If Snowman's special kill would be affected by a Roleblock or Vanish, Snowman's special kill occurs first instead.

    In the case of an infinite dependency, the canonical order is:
    Cueball Gun / Soup
    Itchy Busdrive
    Droog Busdrive
    Snowman Special Kill
    Roleblocks
    Vanishes
    Kills


    Information in a Day start post

    1) Players who were vanished or died in the Night are noted to have "mysteriously vanished."
    2) Any announcements related to the Cueball gun occur.
    3) Any players returning from being vanished are announced to have returned.


    Special behavioral rules

    1) All mod communication / using role abilities will be through private threads. Please place your night action in bold.
    2) Do not use any form of breadcrumbing / codes / alphabet claims. Anything which becomes significantly easier to understand after being told how to decode it falls under this rule.
    3) Do not post notes verbatim unless they are obviously formatted as a post draft, and do not attempt to prove or imply it would be impossible to write the entirety of a post just before posting.
    4) You may ask rules questions publicly or in your private thread. If you ask privately, I will answer privately. You may also ask me to publicly clarify a rule without revealing who asked about it.
    5) Don't lie about Out of Game commitments, don't accuse other players of lying about Out of Game commitments. When talking about Out of Game commitments, give as little detail as possible.
    6) If you're unsure about a behavioral rule, ask the mod before doing something questionable.
    7) Have fun. This is not optional.

    It occurs to me I never clarified how hammers work.

    In order to end the Day early: have a majority of living players on the same wagon declare intent to hammer, then have somebody quote / link all their posts and mention me (with @)

    (Example of declaring intent to hammer: posting "I want to hammer" in-thread)

    In order to end the Night early: Every player must consent to Night ending early in their private threads.

    Hammer will happen when I show up, I'll probably nudge the deadlines to keep eod/sod at 11PM if possible.

    As mentioned I'm going to lock the thread for 24 hours until the "real" Day start, sorry about not sorting this out before making the game in the modbot.

    Not everybody has /confirmed and there might be some pre-game shuffling so letting Day start now would not be fair.

    This post original covered how we have a couple absent players, but that's mostly been resolved now.

    Vault_Dweller replaces sheepsaysmeep, effective immediately.


    @Unity has not confirmed, has until game start to show up or I'll find some way to handle the slot.

    Everybody else is confirmed.

    We're still a little down in replacements, but game is definitely a go.

    Disclaimer:
    The flavor in this game may have particularly members of the Felt preforming actions, or references to in-game mechanics. None of this indicative of the game state in any way, and most of it is based on an outline written before the game was randed. Everything mechanical will be in bold at the bottom of each post.

    Corpses. So many corpses. Spades Slick and Hearts Boxcar who somehow nobody noticed breaking in. Cans, Eggs, even Clover. What happened? Was there a firefight and nobody noticed?

    A search of the time mansion revealed only more questions. Dr. Scratch is gone, and his Cueball Gun was removed from his study. Not even Stitch can figure out what the Cairo Overcoat is doing. After working deep into the Night investigating, everybody agrees: There are no clues and we haven't accomplished anything.

    Matchsticks suggested we all burn the bodies so we can at least say we've done something today. After a few cries of consensus the remaining Felt pair off to take the bodies to the furnace.

    Once you get to the furnace, that's when you hear it. Doze's calm tone.

    "Why does your skin feel more like leather than felt?"

    There's a slam, and when you get to furnace Doze is locked inside. He's trying to tell you who stuffed him in, but you can't understand him through his time-slowing. You can only stare at his slow-motion burning.

    Itchy runs off to find the spare furnace key, but by the time he gets back it's too late.

    Apparently there's some traitors afoot.

    Yup. I believe there's specific formatting to use so the automod actually recognizes a vote, but I'd rather ask here than hunt through the rest of the forum for special commands.

    The special hammer stuff is just for ending the Day early, yes.

    We are using MU's modbot to handle votes, sorry if that was unclear.

    When you're like 95% or more sure that scum is going to target you in the night, and also in some sort of weird game position where town doesn't have to worry about soup anymore and it's also not mylo or lylo.

    So like never basically.

    Also, yeah, it's essentially meme stuff. dC has rolled scum in the last however many games he's been in that I know of, with the exception of the last DHI I was with him in, where I drove him as a pseudo-doc on N1 and got blown up by Clubs for my trouble.
