3 Mafia Goons vs. 12 Vanilla Town

The Mafia Championship is an annual online tournament series that pits representatives from various forum Mafia (aka Werewolf) communities against one another as they compete to determine the Internet’s greatest forum Mafia player. Each participating community democratically elects one person to represent them and fight on their behalf.

The Championship was founded in 2013 and has grown larger every season. As of this season, a total of 220+ different communities have been represented in the Mafia Championship, making it the largest cross-forum event on the Internet.

This season is also the most international one yet with 25+ different countries represented:
    Australia
    Canada
    Chile
    Czechia
    Denmark
    England
    Estonia
    Finland
    Germany
    Hungary
    Indonesia
    Ireland
    Italy
    Japan
    Lithuania
    Norway
    Poland
    Portugal
    Republic of Ireland
    Romania
    Scotland
    South Africa
    Spain
    Sweden
    The Netherlands
    Ukraine
    USA
    Wales

Read more here about the history of the Mafia Championship.

    The tournament structure:
    • 165 communities will participate, each sending one representative.
    • 11 Qualifying Games will be played consisting of 15 players each. I.e. every representative plays in one Qualifying Game. 1 player will advance directly to the Finale Game from each Qualifying Game. The players themselves vote post-game to determine who is deserving of advancement. I.e. 11 of the 15 finalists will be found this way.
    • A Jury consisting of finalists from Season 3 will along with me discuss and vote to determine a group of 30 wildcard players who will play in 2 Semi Final Wildcard Games. From each of these two games, two players will directly advance to the Finale Game.
    • The Finale Game is played. Once it has completed, the players vote to determine who shall hold the title of Season 4 Champion.

    The setup:

    MOUNTAINOUS
    12 Vanilla Townies
    3 Mafia Goons

We’re going back to basics for Season 4. Each season we’re changing it up, and for this season it’s finally time to play without any power roles or abilities at all. Pure mafia. You have only yourself and your reading/bluffing abilities to count on.

    Relevant mechanics info:
    • Day start.
    • Deadline Lynch w/ Option for Majority starting Day 2. I.e. when day timer runs out, person with most votes will be lynched. However, day can also be ended early (starting Day 2) if there is ever a majority of votes on one person.
    • If there is a tied lynch, one of the tied players will be randomly lynched.
    • No outside communication. I.e. you may not contact the other players outside of the thread (unless you are Mafia and wish to speak with your teammates).

    Timeline:
    • The Qualifying Games will be played in the months of May and June. Look further down for the exact schedule.
    • The Semi Finals (Wildcard Games) will be played in July.
    • The Finale Game will be played in August.

    Note on backups/subs:
If your representative needs to sub out during a QUALIFIER, your community's backup will take their place, assuming 1) you've elected one, 2) they've registered a user on Mafia Universe, and 3) that I'm able to get a hold of them within a reasonable amount of time (i.e. with enough time left in the current phase for the sub to work with).

If I can't get a hold of your backup, I will give the spot to a representative from a community that joined the series late (see below) - or failing that, then a backup from one of the larger communities.

If your representative needs to sub out during a WILDCARD or FINALE, your community's backup will NOT take their place. Instead the next person who was in line to receive a wildcard or finale spot will take their place.

Instructions to fit in, have everybody like you, and always be happy:
    • Only post/talk about the game in this thread. Don't PM other players, unless you are mafia and wish to talk with your teammates. Also, don't post anything about the game in other threads or on other forums.
    • Don't try to use the form of your role PM. So a screenshot of your role PM would be cheating.
    • This is a game of lying. Players are expected to lie. No statement or promise a player makes within the game has any force outside the game. As an example, a bet offered in a game is not something you can collect if you win.
    • If we believe you to bending the rules intentionally in a way that clearly goes against the spirit of the rules and the game, then that would also be grounds for modkill.
    • If you have any questions about rules, send a PM to your host. Avoid asking questions to the host in the thread.
    • Don't ever refer to private communications with the Game Host.
    • If you should ever require a replacement, PM Thingyman and stop posting in the thread.
    • No hydra'ing / multi-accounting is allowed. Do not share your account with anyone else.
    • Treat your fellow players with respect. Hostility will not be tolerated.

Refer to this post for the complete, standard ruleset for mafia games.

I will repeat this particular rule once more in big letters to make sure you understand:

DO NOT EVER REFERENCE THIS GAME OUTSIDE OF THIS GAME THREAD. I.E. YOU SHOULD NOT BE TALKING ABOUT THIS GAME WHATSOEVER ON YOUR HOME SITE. IF PEOPLE ASK YOU QUESTIONS, TELL THEM YOU CAN'T TALK ABOUT THE GAME AND LINK THEM TO THIS THREAD.

    1) 7-Zark-7

    REPRESENTING: ARS Technica

NATIONALITY: United States, Greater New York City

    STARTED PLAYING MAFIA (YEAR): 2011

HAVE PLAYED MAFIA ON THE FOLLOWING SITES: http://forum.thewolfgame.net/ by way of http://arstechnica.com/civis/index.php

    SHOE SIZE: 10.5

ORIENTATION: Horizontal is good. I'm also fond of seats and tray tables in their full upright and locked position, and (on one notable and glorious occasion) whilst jumping off the top of the highest building in the stated of Nevada (Vegas baby, yeah)

    BIO:
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was good, but often misunderstood. The word, unpronounceable to modern tongues could be incredibly destructive in the wrong hands. There was a whole thing, people died. This one guy even jumped off the top of a casino.

Much later, mankind rediscovered the word. As with any burst of light, darkness inevitably followed. We refer to that time as "disco", then we rapidly change the subject... things tend to come when called, and absolutely no one wants yet another dark age.

Much later, There was an idea that formed in a dystopian corner of the internet called "The Wolf Game". The idea was to bring together a group of of remarkable people to see if they could become something more. To see if they could work together when we needed them to, to fight the battles that we never could.

It mostly worked. Humans and Werewolfes wrapped in two million, five hundred thousand tons of spinning flavortext, all alone in the night. It can be a dangerous place, especially when there's a vigilante about, or unexpected interference from the dead, but it's our last best hope for peace.

This is the story of the last of the wolf forums, and for that, we'll have to go back even further... As Earth cooled, it became engulfed in a mist, much later to become named water. It was the one ingredient, more than any other, which would come to sustain life... life which...

    Um, Sven?

    Yeah?

They're all looking at you funny. This is supposed to be your biography, not history of the Word Part 1.

But... but this is important - when I get to the part about the mariachis and the tradgy of the sulaco

    Sven?

    Yeah?

You don't want this to end like last time, do you?

What about the guitar case? Should I tell them about that?

They'll learn soon enough about that

    What about the multiple personalities?

They're already picking up on that

What about mentioning Campa & Quino?

You just did. Look, a few short words, & then let the next person speak. Like those meetings you used to attend.

Ah... okay hang on ((clears throat))

My name is Sven Zarkowski - from a young age I knew I was different.

    Sven?

    Yeah?

Just say hi... they'll figure the rest out. I'll add that you come here to represent http://forum.thewolfgame.net/ by way of http://arstechnica.com/civis/index.php.

Shouldn't we mention the Ars front page?

There's a front page? Huh... you learn something new everyday.

    Generally no... no we don't.

Well, maybe today will be different - new forum, new voice, right?

    Voices.

    So say we all.

((Steve, AKA 7-zark-7 here - happy to represent. I'm in the technical side of broadcast TV in New York & really don't know how to slow down. I view the wolf game (we don't really play Mafia themed games) as a creative relief. I go from 0-flavortext in 3.5 seconds, and have an average speed of 55 words per minute. When this game hits 88 words per minute, you're going to see some serious $#@!.

    2) AragakiAyase

    REPRESENTING: Flash Flash Revolution

    NATIONALITY: Chinese American

    STARTED PLAYING MAFIA (YEAR): 2015

HAVE PLAYED MAFIA ON THE FOLLOWING SITES: FlashFlashRevolution, MafiaUniverse, LastLifeForums, DailyMafia.

    BIO:
I'm too lazy to actually write my bio and not very creative, but luckily my lovely forum members offered to write me a bio. Here it is:

    Mashi:
*Necessary theme music that must be played while reading this bio

Who is AragakiAyase? This question has plagued philosophers for millennia! It just seems physically impossible to combine awesome skill in TWG with anime, yet nothing else can explain his existence. And questions of who he is only suggests more intense and serious questions. Is he the protagonist? Is he the lead girl? Is he best grill? The one true waifu?

I, Mashi, AragakiAyase’s lover, am here to answer these questions! But before we answer these questions, we shall pursue answers to some relatively simpler questions, such as how proficient is AragakiAyase in mafia-sleuthing? Or how many villagers has he gotten away with murdering as mafia? How likely is it for a skilled TWGer/Mafia Player to successfully court AragakiAyase?

The answer to these questions is simple (except the last one) – if I rated AragakiAyase’s skill on a scale of my very first TWG to god-like, he would be… thesunfan (that’s above god-like btw). When I read AragakiAyase’s very first TWG on FFR, I was surprised and amazed by how composed, thorough, and fruitful his playstyle was. He was a villager that stayed calm under pressure and whose detective skills were rationally-minded and sophisticated. Of course, his first game was years ago. And AragakiAyase has become even better since then.

AragakiAyase is a proficient poster who isn’t afraid to get his hands dirty if he must. He isn’t looking out to fight you, but if you mess with him, don’t be surprised when you get Nico Nico Knee’d in the face and see your Wolf* teeth fall out one by one! Unless you’re town. In which case, why are you picking a fight with someone who’s obviously town???

So now that you know about how BA AragakiAyase is at fighting crime, how about committing it? To which, I respond with a DRAMATIC PAUSE…

Idk I don’t think I’ve ever played with him as a Wolf lol, but he’s definitely MEGA GR8 at it I bet tbh. I bet he #REKT me if he has and I’m just forgetting. That’s how badly he must have #REKT me!

Now we finally understand just how amazing AragakiAyase is at TWG, so we can start tackling the tougher questions. At the risk of making this biography too long, I will opt to answer only one; the question of who is the one true waifu. Contrary to popular conjecture, AragakiAyase is not the one true waifu, but is actually the one true husbando, whose waifu, Aragaki Ayase, happens to be the one true waifu!

Shadowolfe (Asmodeus): Aragaki Ayase —or AA, as he is creatively nicknamed on FFR— is one of FlashFlashRevolution's most respected and beloved players.

Masterfully able to pick up on and differentiate between nearly imperceptible signs of scumminess, his skillful sleuthing has served to seal the fate of many a wolf. While he will tenaciously interrogate other players over what may seem to be exceedingly slight issues, it is important to remember that this is simply his method of extracting additional information. Capable of pushing on several players simultaneously, his in-game intensity and zeal have caused many a town to falsely label him a tryhard wolf.
Trying hard, however, is not alignment-indicative for AA, and neither is volume or activity level. You won't ever find him trying to hide by playing an inactive strat. He is (deservingly) confident enough to believe in his ability to elude suspicion through his posts and, regardless of alignment, it is only due to IRL responsiblities that he would shirk his in-game commitments.

Possessing a strong presence in the game as either alignment, AA is an intelligent, insightful, and intimidating force to be reckoned with. He terrorizes the wolves as town and, as wolf, subtly infiltrates town to sow the seeds of discord in their ranks.

-Has a lot of imaginary internet Mafia points
-Got sent to GoC by default.

    BIO:
Hello, I am Burnmad. I have taken this time out of my busy schedule, which includes school, extracurriculars, and work, in order to play in this Mafia championship for the glory of Hapori Tohu. I know not whether I will win, or whether I will even have the honor of playing in the finals, but I do know that I will play my best, regardless of what comes.

I've enjoyed Mafia for somewhere in the neighborhood of a decade, now, but I've never been much more than a casual player until fairly recently-- maybe a year or two ago, and even then I never acquired any particularly notable degree of mastery. Nonetheless, I will give it my all. My favorite role in any form of Mafia I've played is the Jailer, as it appears on EpicMafia. When the town votes to no lynch, the Jailer chooses someone to jail during the night, with whom they meet anonymously and can choose to spare or kill. The jailed player cannot act or be acted upon while jailed.

If you should want to know anything about my personal life: I'm a student of computer engineering, and my hobbies include video games, reading, and occasionally archery. My favorite video game is Metroid Prime (with Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door coming in at a close second place), and my favorite book is To Kill a Mockingbird."

Okay so I played Witch Hunt recently. It's fun, sue me. I just wanted to rhyme something.

Second-year representative of GayTeenForum. Please don't kill me night one again or I'll cry.

GTF's resident glass cannon / mafia host. When I'm not hosting I'm running train on inexperienced townies or lining up shots on inexperienced scum. That's what it's like on my home forum a lot, so I like to flex my muscles elsewhere (MU, DLP) with experienced players to refine my style a bit.

Glass cannon because as town I can sometimes be hilariously wrong to the point of unintentional near-gamethrowing. As scum I'm killed after ~day 3 because I shouldn't still be alive. Nicknamed the Cobalt paradox on GTF, this is called the halfway rule or something elsewhere, and thus I tend to thrive in earlygame and on the off chance I make it to lategame I get really excited about it as both alignments.

I'm actually VERY excited to play a championship game with no mechanics, because I think the setup will allow me to bring the best out of my scumhunting abilities and thrive.

Good luck all, and I'll see Vaimes and Bious in the ring. Leggo!

The Stylized Vinyl Figures of Pop culture Characters that you can find almost any where.

People Call him JPaids, some People say he is here on a fluke vote from the DM community. He is really best summed up by this vote from Tehbankertin, taken from their top secret chat:

"Hes touted as one of the top 3 mafia players in his household! HE comes from a land made of busses. Here is hoping he can TMI his way to the top! JON PAUL from DAILY MAFIA!!!!!"

He plays video mafia over on Twitch on the Daily Mafia channel. Forum games are on 2+2 and Mafia universe, you can look the games up for your self and decide whether he is good or not. He doesn't ever look at or reference past games other than to site when Banks Died on Day one like an idiot.

He doesn't lose Forum games as the Mafia Alingment, and Carries Town hard as long as they aren't too busy self imploding. With out any roles to Claim or 3rd party the JPaids should be kept to a minimum. Maybe?

    REPRESENTING: Wars World News Forum

    NATIONALITY: Dutch

    STARTED PLAYING MAFIA (YEAR): 2014

HAVE PLAYED MAFIA ON THE FOLLOWING SITES: Wars World News Forums, MafiaScum

    BIO:
I discovered Mafia on Wars World News during the summer of 2014. WWN is a fansite for the series of games "Advanced Wars" by Nintendo, however it has become more of a discussion board over time. I came across it after emulating some games on my mobile phone, I got stuck on an level and googled help and ended up finding WWN. I kind of stuck there ever since, it's a small community however it's pleasant and good to be a part of. Anyway, back to Mafia.

A guy named McTool there hosted a Mafia game there which I joined. WWN's meta is somewhat more playful than many other sites, games tending to be played more jokingly than competitively. The game captured my interest however and I wanted to play at a higher level, me being a competitive person at heart. I searched for Mafia communities and came across MafiaScum. So without thinking I jumped into a full-sized game, needless to say I got swamped and played appallingly. My play at this point wasn't very good, however over time it gradually improved. In 2015 MS ran the Team Mafia competition. That basically consisted of 16 something teams of 4 spread over 5 games duking it out, whichever team won the most games (and in the case of a tie the team that played the best). My team had a clean 4 game win as the only team in the competition, as such we won. It was also during this same year that I became the moderator of the MafiaWiki, after starting an extensive improvement spree.

As of now my town game is decent, it can improve in areas however I'm now deemed a threat by my opponents who know me. I haven't drawn Mafia in over a year so I really cannot say how skilled I am aligned as that, though I'm aware of my town game so I expect I'd be able to emulate it decently.

Last year I also competed in the mafia championships, however due to a mix of IRL shenanigans and me not being used to the short deadlines I never played to my full potential. The last year has been hectic for me, so in general I haven't played much mafia. Here goes nothing though.

My early game play largely consists of me just analysing people's posts and trying to figure out possible motivations for either alignment, I then weigh the two and draw conclusions based on what makes more sense. In this area I'm flawed, as the second I don't understand someone's manner of playing I tend to get false positives. Thus I spend a lot of time interacting with those I don't understand to minimise mistakes.
Once I have a few flips I start heavily focusing on people's interactions and vote analysis, it's not uncommon for me to do a 180° on my reads at this stage. This is what I'm best at, and where I usually nail scum consistently.

    BIO:
I guess the thing I'm most famous for was in my first game on LBPC in order to prove my innocence I joined the bandwagon on myself. It's somewhat of a recurring joke every so often it'll come up (many of the users here came from LBPC).

On LBPC I think I was lynched in every game but two. One where I was a serial killer and the other where I was a doctor. In the Doctor game I was nearly lynched but saved by a "priest" type role. Me and the preist survived the game and was my first win on Mafia.

    The serial killer game well...

I was alligned with the civilains. The player count was relatively low as the site was having issues and interest in Mafia games had declined. Basically on the first day I think someone was killed by the Mafia and the Mafia serial killer used one of their two kills. The second day a civilain was lynched, the Mafia killed, I killed a civilain with my powers and I myself was murdered by the Mafia assassin.

There must have been 12 players which means that the civvies and Mafia were equal which ended the game after the second day.

I've been Mafia twice so far (I won't spoil the current game if you're paying any attention to it) so I'm not as experienced at playing Mafia.

On this sight I also started a cult revolving around the worship of Apples. It's the only one that matters

Basically I like playing Mafia and it'll be good to represent my community :apple:

    FAQ

Are you unsure about how actions are processed or how roles interact with each other? Then read more here:

    ORDER OF OPERATIONS

Night actions are processed in this order:

    Strongman kills
    Roleblocks
    Jails
    Doctors
    Bodyguards
    Kills
    Investigations
    Backups

When an action was submitted during the night will never matter when the actions are processed.

    ACTION FEEDBACK

These are the results you will get when you submit certain actions.

Non-investigative roles when they submit an action (they also receive this if they are roleblocked):

Your action on Player A was received.
Investigative roles (Tracker, Cop, etc.) when roleblocked:

Your action on Player B did not return any results.
Trackers when tracking a person that didn't visit anyone (or if they targeted a Ninja):

Player C did not visit anyone.
Watchers when watching a person that wasn't visited by anyone (or only visited by a Ninja):

Player D was not visited by anyone.
Alignment Cop when investigating a town-aligned player (or a Godfather):

    Player E is Town
Watcher when watching a person that was visited by multiple people:

Player F was visited by Player G, Player H, Player I
    FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

How do I submit my action?
Use the form below the game thread. If your role has a night action, the form will only be visible during night phases. It's not possible to submit actions in advance of the night phase.

What does it mean if the Mafia Host says that night kills are assigned?
In games with this setting turned on, the member of the mafia team that made the most recent night kill submission will be the one assigned to the kill, which means that the kill can be blocked if a Town Roleblocker or Town Jailkeeper target the mafia player in question. Similarly, the kill can be tracked and watched by Town Trackers and Town Watchers. If this setting isn't turned on, then it doesn't matter who the last person to submit the mafia kill is, as the kill is unblockable and untrackable in this case.

Where do I find example role PM's?
This thread contains example role PM's for all roles currently supported by the Modbot as well as information on the various modifiers. Here you will find the answers to a lot of questions not covered in this FAQ section.

    Which roles can self-target?
Only Watchers are able to use their ability on themselves at night. This means that Doctors or Jailkeepers aren't able to protect themselves, for example.

Which roles are not able to target the same players on consecutive nights?
Doctors, Jailkeepers, and Roleblockers are not allowed to target the same player twice in a row. Everyone else is, including Bodyguards. Note that this non-consecutive restriction still holds true even if one of these three roles were blocked the night before when targeting the person that they're attempting to target again.

What happens if Jailkeeper A and Jailkeeper B or Roleblocker A and Roleblocker B target each other (and are not targetted by other blockers)?
In the case of Jailkeepers, they will block and protect each other. In the case of Roleblockers, they also block each other. This means that the two players are trackable to each other that night by Trackers and Watchers. It also means that if one of them is mafia and happens to simultaneously be the one submitting the factional kill that night in a game with assigned kills, then this kill is blocked. This same principle applies to longer loops. I.e. in a A > B > C > D > A loop, everyone is blocked.

What happens if Jailkeeper A targets Roleblocker B who targets Jailkeeper A?
Jailkeeper A will be blocked in this scenario. Refer to the order of operations: Roleblocks process before jails.

What happens if Jailkeeper A targets Roleblocker B who targets Player C?
As stated above, roleblocks process before jails, so Roleblocker B will successfully block Player C. I.e. Jailkeeper A will fail to block Roleblocker B, but will still protect Roleblocker B.

What happens if Jailkeeper A targets Jailkeeper B and Jailkeeper B targets Jailkeeper C (who isn't targeting any of the former two)?
In this case, Jailkeeper A would prevent Jailkeeper B's block from occuring, meaning that Jailkeeper C's action is not blocked.

If an X-Shot role is blocked while using a shot, do they lose that shot forever?
Yes. A 1-shot Vigilante being blocked while attempting to kill someone will not have their shot refunded.

If someone with a Strongman modifier kills Player A who is protected by Bodyguard B, who dies?
Player A will die, and Bodyguard B will survive.

Can a mafia team choose not to kill anyone during a night?
The host can determine this using the Mafia Factional Kill setting. Kills can be mandatory, optional, or disabled altogether.

The default is No. The mafia factional kill is compulsory. This is done in order to avoid deadlocked games where the town keeps no lynching and the mafia refuses to submit a kill. If the game has assigned kills, it will be randomized which member of the team is carrying out the kill.

If there is only one mafia member left in a game without assigned kills, can the mafia factional kill then be blocked and/or tracked?
    No.

Can the mafia submit a kill for one of their own members?
    No.

If I kill someone, does their night action, if they have one, still succeed?
Yes, killing someone doesn't prevent them from performing their night action (unless they investigated someone, in which case they will not receive a report). Refer to the order of operations: All kills happen at the end of the night, and everyone pulls the trigger simultaneously.

Can individual night actions be proxied on mafia teams?
No. If the mafia team has a Mafia Roleblocker, for example, and they want to use this role's action, then the player occupying that slot must submit the action themselves.

If a Lover is shot during the night, while the other Lover is protected that night, does the other Lover still die?
Yes. It's not possible to prevent a Lover from dying of love sickness.

If a Bodyguard protects Lover A, while Lover B is shot during that same night, what happens?
A dies of love sickness and Bodyguard lives.

If there are any Innocent Childs in the game, are these confirmed in the thread right when the game begins?
No. Innocent Childs are able to decide themselves when or if they wish to have the Modbot confirm their role and alignment in the thread. Note that this is exclusively a day action and that it can take up to one minute for the Modbot to process the action.

What results are Alignment Cops, Full Cops and Role Cops given if they investigate a Godfather or a Miller?
Alignment Cops are told "Town" for Godfathers and "Mafia" for Millers. Full Cops are told "Vanilla Town" for Godfathers and "Mafia Goon" for Millers. Role Cops are told "Godfather" for Godfathers and "Miller" for Millers.

Can Role Cops tell the difference between a Vanilla Town and Mafia Goon?
No. They are told "Vanilla" when investigating either of these two roles.

If I roleblock someone with a Bulletproof Vest, will that nullify the effect of the vest?
No. Bulletproof Vests are passive modifiers that cannot be blocked from working.

If I roleblock Masons, Neighbors or Lovers with out of thread communication privileges, can I prevent them from talking at night?
    No.

If I roleblock a Godfather, will they still be revealed as being town-aligned to Alignment Cops and Full Cops that night?
    Yes.

    USING THE SOFTWARE

Are you wondering about how to vote, submit night actions or multi-isolate players? Read about this and more here:

    VOTING BBCODES

Our forum votes for someone by using the vote tags: [V]Thingyman[/V]. Preview:

    ##Vote Thingyman

Make sure that you spell out the full, correct name. Abbreviations or misspelled names will not be registered by the Modbot.

To unvote, use the tags: [UNV][/UNV] . When unvoting you do not need to enter the name of the person that you are unvoting. Preview:

    ##Unvote

    VOTING BUTTONS

You can also quickly vote for someone by clicking on the box with a checkmark icon, which will bring up an alphabetized dropdown containing the names of living players:

This will insert [V][/V] tags with the name of the player you selected in the dropdown, perfect every time.

Click the empty checkbox button to insert [UNV][/UNV].

    SUBMITTING NIGHT ACTIONS

If you have a night action, simply submit this at night by scrolling to the bottom of the game thread. Here you will find a night action form like this:

Click the dropdown and select the player whom you wish to use your night action on. You can change it as many times as you wish before the deadline expires.

    CALLING UP A VOTECOUNT

Votecounts will appear automatically at various intervals, but you can also call up votecounts yourself by following these steps:

First, you need to apply to join "Mafia Game Hosts" under Permission Groups.

Second, once your request has been approved, you will be able to call up votecounts by simply pushing the "Post Votecount" button in the top right corner of any game thread that you'd like an updated votecount for.

    VIEWING VOTE HISTORY

There are three ways to access the vote history for any game.

    1. Click on the "Vote History" button in the top right corner of the game thread:

    2. Click on the "View Vote History" link, which accompanies all votecounts:

    3. Click on Modbot in the top forum menu. This will give you a list of ongoing and completed games:

Next, simply click on "Vote History" to view all votes for that game.

Following any of the above three steps will bring you to an overview like this one:

Click on a Voter's username to view all of the votes by their slot.

Click on a Target's username to view all of the votes for their slot.

    ISOLATING A PLAYER'S POSTS

If you wish to read a player's posts in isolation, simply click on "ISO" in the top right corner of one of that player's posts in the relevant thread as illustrated here:

Alternatively, you can access a player's posts in isolation by clicking on the number next to "Replies:" in the forum lobby.

Doing so will pull up a window listing the post counts for everyone who has posted in that thread. You access someone's posts in isolation by simply clicking on the number next to "Posts:" for that person.

The ISO view itself has Quote and Multi-Quote buttons inside it, which will make it very easy to quickly quote a lot of a player's posts for analysis or commentary:

    MULTI-ISOLATING

If you wish to read not just one player's posts, but you want to ISO multiple players, then click the "Multi ISO" button to the left of "Game Tools" and select the players in question as shown here:

    MULTI-QUOTING WHILE THREAD IS LOCKED

Note that you can multi-quote posts from even locked game threads. This is useful for when you wish to reread the game and do work during night phases.

After quoting the relevant posts, you simply open a different, opened thread and press "Go Advanced". Then add the quotes to your post by clicking the prompt below the post area as shown here:

Now, of course you can't post your work in the game thread while the thread is locked, but you can copy paste and save your work to a local file or the cloud and have it ready to post the very next day phase (if you're still alive, that is).

    BOOKMARKS

Whenever you open a game thread, you are able to bookmark posts. This is for many players an important tool for keeping track of and remembering vital pieces of information, reads, claims etc.

Also, note that these bookmarks are saved to your user account, meaning that it eliminates the trouble associated with keeping notes between different computers/devices.

If you want to bookmark a post, you simply scroll to the post that you want to bookmark and press "Set Bookmark" as shown here:

This will call up 5 different colored icons (Blue, Red, Yellow, Green, and Black) on the right side of the post in question. You can click any of these icons, which will then prompt you to include a note for the post.

If you don't want to include a note, you don't have to - just leave it blank. The color coding in itself can be a valuable tool. Maybe you want to use Red bookmarks for posts that you find suspicious, Green bookmarks for posts that you find townie, Black bookmarks for posts containing claims, or whatever system you can think of that will be helpful to you.

Once this is done, you have now successfully bookmarked a post with a certain color and maybe even a note. If you wish to remove the bookmark again, click on "Unset Bookmark".

    How do I access bookmarks?

There are two ways to access your bookmarks.
    1. Inside a game thread, you can access the bookmarks for that specific game by simply right clicking on the "Bookmark" button and opening the link.

This will bring you to a separate page that is automatically filtered to only show bookmarks from the game thread that you accessed the page from.
    2. You can also access your bookmarks by going to Features in the site's top menu:

This will bring you to a page where no bookmarks are shown by default. However, you have several filtering options.

You can filter by Game, by Player and by Color - and all of them at once if you so wish.

Here's an example of filtering by only red bookmarks in one specific game:

If you want to be taken directly to one of your bookmarked posts, you just click the post number.

    How do I quote bookmarks?

You can also multi-quote bookmarked posts by clicking the little "+" button seen above on the far right side of each bookmark.

Once you have multi-quoted all the bookmarked posts that you want to quote, you will then have to go to the game thread in which you wish to quote the bookmarked posts.

Here you have two ways of quoting the posts.

    1. Click on "Reply With Quote" on another post as shown here:

You will then probably want to delete the last post quoted in the reply box, but otherwise you should be good to go.
    2. Or you can do the more smooth option and click the "Reply To Thread" button at the top and bottom of the game thread - as shown here:

By doing this you will open up a reply box containing only your multi-quoted bookmarked posts.

It was a normal day in the Smurf’s Village, but there was this tension in the air. It was a hot and humid day and everyone was grumpy. Except for Grouchy Smurf, he was grouchy. There was arguments, conflicts, and quarrels. I (Papa Smurf) was sick of it. I just wanted all the Smurfs to get along and follow my lessons of respect and teamwork. I thought that if I made clones of The Smurfs, they would realize how silly their conflicts are and be one big happy family again. Unfortunately, I put a bit too much arsenic into the solution and made their clones evil. They had grey clothes and red eyes that stare into the soul. Now me and the other smurfs must work together in order to find and eliminate the Grey Smurfs. If they fail to have teamwork and fight among themselves, The Grey Smurfs will be known as The Smurfs.

We've got 3:12 as a ratio here and it's mountainous, this should be a breeze for town if we win. There are 5 mislynches before town loses if my quick math is correct.

I'm not sure. It's a bit suicidal doing this and a mafioso wouldn't want to draw attention to themselves, especially this early.

Aragaki must surely have some reason for voting at random (maybe wanting to see how people react, etc.) Albeit it's a silly thing to do.

It was deadly serious. Naturally every somewhat competent player will have caught scum with such certainty within the first page of the game. Rational thinking leaves no other possibility, you must be scum.

(If it isn't clear I'm being serious. There's literally nothing noteworthy yet as to be expected, why not have some fun?)

Haven't looked at them I'll admit. If scum won them all then either the scum definitely deserved each of those or the town played awfully. 3:10 games tend to be seen as balanced, 3:12 leaves town no excuse for a loss besides godly opponents or their own failure.

I'm fairly certain random votes are random as they are... random? No reason is needed right now.

Disagree with this. Not that it doesn't bring attention but RVS votes arn't gonna be taken seriously so I don't think it would be suicidal or risky for a wolf to do. Also I think I'm the only person AA knows in this game so it does make some sense in that way.

Ironically that very, very weakly earns them a few town points.

That would explain the random vote if you two know each other.

Vaimes popping in and out is strange but it's still early in the day. Although we should look closely at his contribution when he does come back.

Isn't it possible the vote had no reason? Why are you seeking a reason for it?

Seeking a reason for it would ultimately determine if AA is someone I should be looking out for later on. It looks like it was a vote to play about with a friend and nothing more.

Determining if there is any reason basically allows me to evaluate if AA could be part of the Mafia, which even if the vote was random then I think would be unlikely anyway.

    Greetings, gentlemen. GLHF.

Initial thoughts: AA's random vote could be an attempt to seem towny by specifically drawing attention to himself, something scum generally avoids; Mysterious Lad has read two different people's actions as towny, including the aforementioned random vote, which strikes me as odd. This could also be seen as covering for AA.

Of course, the random vote could be a reaction test, and ML's personal strategy might revolve around finding an early TR, or something. I'm reluctant to draw conclusions so early, and from such meager evidence.

Burnmad where did ML read my random vote as covering? And even if he had, why do you see it as potential covering for me in the world where we're partners?

I didn't mean that ML read your vote as covering, I meant that one might interpret his defense of the random vote as him covering for you.

That said, I don't personally subscribe to that interpretation. I think everyone here is a bit too experienced for the scum to immediately jump to each others' defense.

On that note, however: Why did you vote as you did? Reactions, or are you trying to RL?

Two different reactions to my first post, and neither of them really did anything to help me feel where they're coming from.

    ML feels a little off.

"But Vaimes, that's so vague! How exactly does he feel off?"

I didn't state this earlier because I was having a hard time putting it into words. The first thing I take away from ML's posts when I read them are that they feel crafted. Tight instead of loose. I don't know if it's me or if anyone else feels the same, or differently.

    Villagery PoP in!!!!

A lot of serious talk over a start of day vote made with a quip. We got at least six hours and sixteen minutes before I stop $#@! posting and actively lynch a mafia.

BurnMad I just got and palyed the nonary games and have been very pleased with them. Going to buy time dilema and play it when I have more time.

I didn't like Fable or shotters post over AA at all. Its a meaningless action and they spent several post talking about it. Its a way of seeming active, attentive, and artificailly getting your post count up by posting about nothing. I play almost entirely by guy and circumstantial read, and both or theirs entire posts don't sit well with me.

Always glad to see another ZE fan. I personally didn't care much for ZTD when compared to the previous two titles, but I hope you have a good time with it.

On a more relevant note: Vaimes, I definitely felt the same thing with ML's posts seeming "crafted", but I don't know if I'm ready to vote him for it just yet. Especially in such an international event as this, I'd hate to jump someone for quirks that could easily be chalked up to someone not speaking their first language.

In any case, I've got to go shopping, so I'll be gone, probably for a couple of hours, maybe less. I'll make another post when I'm back.

Maybe, I have been in some very large mish mash on 2+2. If we have its over there, I vaguely recall the name, but if we had played together it wasn't for long or meaningful

I play almost entirely by guy and circumstantial read, and both or theirs entire posts don't sit well with me.
That's fair. It was a weird vote that's thrown me off since I've never played a game where a person votes on the second post of the game so I felt like there had to be a reason behind it (which I now realise was nothing more than a joke).

I don't find anything odd about ML's post. They aren't deep, but I wouldn't call them crafted either.

Let me introduce you to Jon Paul. He is the poster child for random meaningless post until we move out of the Sh@$ posting phase of the game.

I thought you took it very serious when it was an obvious joke. I have never played with either and I understood imediately it was a joke made by the guy who cared about getting first post in thread. Most players kinda joke around for the first part of day one. Fortunately for me wih a 36 hour day I have loads of time to joke.
