The Janitor may each night choose a player. If that player is killed that night or the following day, that player will vanish and only the Janitor will receive the role reveal.
A common variant is a Janitor who gets to choose whether they want to use their ability every time someone dies, rather than having to correctly guess someone who will die in advance. Another common variant is a Janitor who is simply told to choose whether they wish to clean up the mafia nightkill (i.e. they can't use the ability on players that are lynched or players not killed by the mafia). A different, less common, variant is a Janitor who does not receive any information himself when janitoring someone. It's considered very common for all Janitor variants to be given a 1-shot role modifier, since otherwise it becomes an enormously overpowered role that can potentially deny the town a lot of information. Janitors are always mafia-aligned.
