    A Lot's Gonna Change
    Weyes Blood

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7OrVUk61wHE

I was really skeptical of this based on the first 10 seconds, but it won me over pretty hard. It's delicate and sweet and just the right kind of warm. You think it's gonna be light piano / very minimal, but then those drums and orchestral stuff comes in and it just kinda floats away. You can just close your eyes and ride this one out. Special shoutout to the vocalist here, who's got one of those classically controlled voices that can just get extremely expansive but still feel 100% in control. It's not what I'd want to listen to all the time but sometimes it's just right.

There's also just a slight undertone of dissonance - there are some weird instruments / melodies underneath the main bit and they keep this from feeling one-note. This is like, hm, a romantic epic dance underneath the ocean.

Man this is just fantastic and even writing those words that's not quite putting my finger on why.

Yeah, I could imagine dancing to this at a wedding. It's got a nice tempo and groove and the guy's voice works for me, even when it gets a little affected. The end is... odd? But not offputting. Solid sub.

I think this is probably the most pure cat fit of the bunch. The warmth of the melody, the tenderness of the lyrics, it's pretty much exactly what I was imagining. GG.

Yep, nailed it. There's a sllliiight bit of sadness/wistfulness to it that detracts from the warmth, but it's a very sweet, simple song. Hard to super judge this objectively since I'm probably at 100+ plays of it.

Hm. A little on the cheesy side. Also a little on the upbeat side, though it's in the ballpark for what I had in mind. The instrumentation, especially the guitar, is incredibly cookie-cutter. “My parents danced together, her head on his chest. Both had their eyes closed. They seemed so perfectly content. If you can find someone like that, someone who you can hold and close your eyes to the world with, then you're lucky. Even if it only lasts for a minute or a day. The image of them gently swaying to the music is how I picture love in my mind even after all these years.”

FWIW I was kind of surprised at how little of an edge I ended up having. First 2-3 rounds, sure, but some of those herbs/items were *really* good, and by round 6ish I didn't really have an edge against anyone who'd gotten moderately lucky with searches.

My plan was to try to snipe a town objective and then spin a story about how we needed to sidequest to one of the gigantes to achieve it with an alternate route. "Oh no the control device is missing, but this note I found said we have to kill a gigante to get a second one." And then hopefully waste a bunch of people along with the gigante itself by turning against them a few rounds into the battle.

Dunno if it would have been super good odds, but it felt like my best chance to score a bunch of points at once, and it's not like I needed to survive or escape to win.

    Thoughts?
Are we starting with commentary already?

Because honestly this is the most tedious part of the game. Between running around the citadel, the elevators, and the fact that you have to visit a ton of spread out parts of the station what feels like 3-4 times each, it's just... a real drag. The sweet spot for playing it I'd say is your 2nd time through. The first time you play, it's confusing getting around. The second time, you ~mostly know where everything is and can appreciate the aesthetics of the station and concentrate on the story/dialogue. 3rd+ though, it's rough. You pretty much have to do it the exact same way, every time.

Kinda feels like the beginning dungeon of Baldur's Gate II in that respect.

One of the few things GH and I vehemently disagree on.

Agreed that Ilos/endgame doesn't need to be split up.

Some of the side quests are kinda fun and great flavor, would love some discussion about those.

It's a shame that you kind of have to go out of your way to get the more interesting ones, like Old, Unhappy, Far-Off Things.

Will the people playing through choose a background/class/gender to all play, because that can change the experience a fair bit.

Bring Down the Sky or nah? I've always thought it's one of the more visually cool parts of ME1, but doing it more than a couple times it gets pretty tedious pretty fast.

Man, for some reason this song really reminds me of Crimson and Clover. Weird. They're not... super similar but for some reason at the beginning I couldn't not hear that song. Something about the guy's voice maybe?

Anyway, this is super, super easy to listen to. Very solid cat fit. You can just kind of nod along and put it on autopilot.

Big fan of that synth/organ modulated tonal thing they've got going on in the background.

Good cat fit sneaks this into the 7 range, I'd say.

Ooh, that's smooth. Kind of generically smooth. Lol, that trumpet solo. This isn't an Amy walrus you know.

This definitely works for the category. Don't have a ton to say about it. Didn't like, blow me away, but enjoyable enough.

Approachable as hell. Almost a little too smooth / flouncy to be catchy. In terms of "hang up your brain and just enjoy it," it's got all the right elements.

I can't tell if the video is supposed to be troll or not. It's kind of hilarious. I think a 6 is about right here. It's pleasant to listen to, fits the cat, but wouldn't seek it out again.

This has a lot of elements I like on paper, but I'm not really digging the whole package. It just feels real generic and kind of insipid. It's like, a song that comes on in a club at the exact moment I realize I'm kind of having a $#@!ty night.

Kind of squinting at this one as a cat fit. Like, "I just want to look at pictures of kittens" / song has a gunshot in the first 10 seconds.

Yeah and the guitar is like, distorted / slashing riffs and $#@!. Enjoyable on its own, not a cat fit.

Kind of a cool song, once I got over it not being a cat fit.

As with a lot of Owner subs, this one loses a lot in translation when you just listen as opposed to listen/watch, as the aesthetic of the video and the song are closely intertwined. Strictly as a song, this is definitely hitting the easy-listening / approachable buttons. The style's not quite my cup of tea to listen to, as this style of jazz is really entrenched in my mind with dancing, and just on its own it's kind of meh.

    Cat 5:

“You know what I'm sick of? Using my brain. All day long it's people and words and stress and meetings and books that you don't remember you're not really into until you open them on the train home and compromise and sometimes I just want to look at a picture of a dress. Followed by a picture of some cupcakes. And then a kitten.”

Actually this is a pretty horrible thing to do to you.

Tell you what, if you get like 15 minutes in and it's too painful, you can watch an actual good movie instead:
