Just an unfinished unrefined thought that has been touched upon somehow somewhere, maybe modchat maybe here idk. but how about something alone the lines of ppl playing 2 rounds of games, where the playerlists differ between the two rounds. 2 different setups, and the jury(or even each juror) + players in each game give points. No finale, no semis. I think it'd remove a few of the bad aspects of the current system. Less pressure for the players to perform so they advance, less "this person doesn't really deserve to be here" and less overt advancement talk. Scores only revealed after every game has been played and there's a final score, rather than after each game. I think this would also lead to less actual "results-oriented" discussion since there are two rounds and a lot can happen.

It doesn't deal with the flaking however, and the policy for someone not being able to play game 2 if they played nr 1 would be unfair to the person subbing in.. maybe an average between the scores in both rounds so playing one game only is "fine"?

Also I think this'll still keep the competitive nature of it all but in a less spotlighty way, where saving scores until everything is over helps, and won't single out people that "why did this person advance over x" or "why didn't y advance"... and hopefully it'll still attract people from other communities so mu can still have the influx of new players that kinda make this site what it is

The more I think about it the less I feel like focusing on specchat rework is good enough here. It kinda goes back to the talk about "filtering out the best players" and these tend to be.... mostly mu(or mu adjacent) regulars. I think this current system is kinda.. outdated or smth

i don't think you should care about whether someone explictly broke the rules, just say this is the way we are running spec chat from now on

don't infract people, just kick em

let em back in afterwards if you decide it wasnt as bad, but take action first, beg forgiveness later

idk if it'd work but worth trying

I think there is something to the idea of spec chat being a privilege and not a right
Out of experience, it doesn't work. I'm not sure what the right description of it is without being a jerk about it, but for every small action in moderator capacity that's done, the reactions will be hundred times stronger. Kicking someone from specchat is a huge deal and will have a lot of people reacting to it one way or the other, and each added time that happens, its going to get worse, because what mods consider to be where the line is drawn, even if it's carefully communicated, people, even other than the person kicked, will be mad about it and even though most people agree on the rules, the ones that.... dislike Moderators in general, are the ones that over and over seem to be the loudest. Enforcing rules is $%#!ing hard and extreme thankless/unappreciative, unless having people $%#!ting on you personally and as a group is something you want. Just increasing the amount of people working with it won't solve the problem.
Seems to me the fix there is keep kicking until people get the message that this is supposed to be fun, not "$%#! on player x time" which spec chat often devolves into, even if it is in the guise of "constructive criticism."

So if someone is getting too rowdy or too aggressive they get kicked from spec. People then get butthurt that "you kicked Frankie The Friend" from spec chat, they get kicked too. Keep kicking until the people left are the ones that actually are there to have a good time and can understand that "being a loud $%#!head" isn't acceptable at MU.

Like no offense your answer reads "it's hard therefore we're not going to do it" and I get that moderating is at absolute best a thankless job and at worst physically and mentally health threatening. But at the end of the day it is the job of the moderation team to moderate the site, which to me extends to spec chat.

And we know that vitriol and hyper-attention to flaws, perceived misplays, etc, is something that spec chat thrives upon, so removing those things makes chat more fun for the people who remain.

And if spec chat is that toxic (and I believe it is, or at least can be) then spec chat can go away and "community" be damned.
I think big part of the issue is that some people are regarding mods as police rather than a part of the community trying to make things as nice and fun as possible for everyone. Nobody signed up for being a police/parenting fellow users, and that shouldn't be how moderating works.

    - toxicity in spec chat can't be modded more than it has been previously. Being "on top of things" as mods constantly doesn't really work. A lot of people in the community are very... vocal, and have strong opinions on stuff. If those opinions are about how bad someone has done, or just criticism on how someone has behaved in a game, or whatever, it's going to be contributing to a $%#!tier general tone in specchat. Mafia players by nature like to have and express opinions on stuff. Negativity from a few people shines through, and naturally some people will want to react to stuff written, and there goes a discussion. At all given points of time you can count on like, at least 5 Moderators reading every message and wondering where to draw the line, but when nobody is intentionally being a douchebag and/or knows/doesn't know where the line is drawn, you can't just modhat on and go "stop it, everyone, now" unless it's really crossing the line. And usually the people involved aren't really writing posts that can be singled out as "this is breaking the rules". And for every post/person/discussion that gets moderated, it leads to a multiple of that number, of people, that get upset and/or express discontent in one way or another, and that itself fosters the negative negativity loop that we see a lot of.

    - Champs is the reason MU exists. The influx of users yearly is what carries this community, and from year to year it changes a lot, and that's a great thing imo. Removing the competitive aspect of it kind of takes away a lot from that. I think it comes down to stuff like "what do we want MU to be?". A nice community/meeting point for players from all kinds of communities that want to hang out and play games with others, or a place where competitive/high quality games are believed to be hosted, or just "the place that is centered around champs and where the tourneys to find the best players" is. If it is this last option, that enviroent basically encourages people to criticise others, and it will lead to a general negativity-throwing area. Doesn't matter if 200 messages in a row are positive and good-spirited. It's that one message that manages to sneak in that will get people's attention and people will react to, either to disprove that person/try to "defend someone" or tell them to tone it down or whatever - but it will in itself be a seed for badness as long as that can exist, and that $%#! can't be proactively moderated. At least not in a chat environment.

    - Regarding postcaps: again, it comes down to what type of tournament we want it to be, and what type of community we want to have. I come from a Swedish speaking community, that has extremely competent players, but perceive MU as extremely spammy and with unrealistic expectations. Some people seem to be of the opinion that champs should be like uni - the player that can process the biggest out of information and produce just a such, is the best mafia player. It's dumb. It's very dumb. Having to read thousands of messages per dayphase when you have a job or go to school is absurd. Just because it's normal in an MU environment doesn't mean its not pure insanity outside of our bubble. A good mafia player should be able to do just as much, and produce just as much useful content in 50 posts per 48 hours - hell, even less than that. If you want to talk about the "best players" and have champs be an actual competitive rather than social event, expecting non-native non-mafia-extremist 20h/day-having people to be able to read 100+ posts from 15 players and then going back and processing all those posts over and over following dayphases - it's just wild. It's just not possible. The format inherently excludes like a vast majority of communities that sign up. Doesn't matter that the invitation to commu ities warn people about the activity requirements. That's also why MU regulars seem to be the ones that go far in the tournament. It doesnt feel as much about skill as being able to keep up. And being able to keep up and process tens of thousands of words in a short timespan is NOT skill when it comes to the game of mafia. That's good for university studies and $%#!, but it's not and SHOULD NOT be a factor. I get that it needs to be to some extent, but.. yeah.

    - diaries: $%#! no, puts even more pressure on players, again, communiti3s that post less, non-english communities. Even more expectations on players that shouldn't be there. Even having to think about there being a jury and having to impress the other players to advance skews the way people play to start with, in a really negative way. Adding more things to have to think of is just bad. If anything we should try to force it in the other direction.

Regarding mod stuff - it's a nice thought but... finding the right people that are trusted enough to be able to do the job without introducing ogi elements in the communication in any way, or trusting each of them to uphold game integrity and also doing the job in a good way/with extreme tactfulness is... I wouldnt want to be part of trying to assemble such a group of people. Even having semi-trusted people host champs games (other than write flavor) - ie the flavor-writer being spoiled is in itself something that takes away from the viability/real-dealness of it all, because yeah, it can be abused. Even if we trust people a lot, there's always going to be oopsies and disappointments and... again it comes down to what type of thing we want champs to be, and the proffessionality/seriosity level we want it to have. If we really really care about it, the current system sucks $%#!. For outsiders, MGBB's take where he was extremely nervous because an extremely big audience would be watching and he was nervous about how he would perform (that specifically and not talking about anything else) because the absolute best of the best from all around the world were just there, in that tournament or even that game - is super super valid. (While in reality nobody except for a handful of specchatters can keep up with the game out of all people in the world, and especially not when more than one game at a time is run). Sorry I had to take another shot at activity expectations.

Cap lifts btw, sure, but maybe have the cap lift also be capped so people don't 100-post during that last hour.

Boy do I have more thoughts but I'll just plant my stream-of-consciousness type of post here that you may choose or not to choose to read and probably stay out of here, I'm sure the organisers already know most of my thoughts atp already

I'm getting questions about the setup, so I'll try to simplify it/add to existing information about the setup, and give some examples here

Keep the table up together with this post for it to make the most sense.

6 dice will be rolled to decide what powerroles town will get.

Each category of roles is represented by an interval that we might get with these rolls - for investigative, that interval is 1-3, for protective that interval is 4-5, and for killing roles, we will ONLY have a killing role in the game if one out of our 6 rolls ends up being a roll of 6.

That is, if we for example roll all our 6 dice in the 1-3 interval, town will have a Parity Cop, and no other roles. Regarding the wolf roles, we have the following text in the description:

Count the number of town power roles from above, then take that number minus one. Roll a die that many times and mark down the numbers. Add the corresponding roles from the table below.
This, the bolded, would mean, that wolves will have 0 power roles. the rest will be mafia goons (ie all 3 of them)!

    Another example:

If 5 of our dice rolls are in the 4-5 interval, and our last roll is 6 - we will have a Town Jailkeeper + a Town Bodyguard AS WELL AS a 1-shot vigilante (one single dice roll of 6 corresponds to this in the table).

Following the bolded sentence in the quote above, this will lead to 2 wolf power roles, since town has 3 - the last wolf will be a goon. For the wolves, the 2 roles they get will be straight up decided by each of the 2 numbers rolled ( 1 and 5 would give a role blocker and a tracker)

The combination of the numbers in the first column (the dark one numbered 1-6) of the town categories is always 6. Can be 2+1+3, 6+0+0, 1+1+4 etc. Modbot rands this for us.

There is also another example setup in the spoiler of post 2 in this thread.

Completed WordArt Mafia: Game Information! This is an...

    WordArt Mafia: Game Information!

This is an automated game of Mafia.

    Setup - 13 Players

D6 is a 13-player semi-open setup designed by Visorslash. It is a 13-player Semi-Open Variable setup designed to offer a more balanced experience compared to C9++.

    Town Power Roles:

To determine the town power roles, roll a die six times and mark down the numbers. Each roll corresponds to a grouping below.

    1-3: Investigative
    4-5: Protective
    6: Killing

Mark down the number of each grouping and add the corresponding roles from the table below.

    Investigative
    1 Innocent Child
    2 Voyeur
    3 Motion Detector
    4 Role Cop
    5 Tracker
    6 Parity Cop
    Protective
    1 Bodyguard
    2 Doctor
    3 Roleblocker
    4 Jailkeeper
    5 Jailkeeper + Bodyguard
    6 Roleblocker + Doctor
    Killing
    1 1-Shot Vigilante
    2 2-Shot Vigilante
    3 Vigilante
    4 Vigilante
    5 Vigilante + 1-Shot Vigilante
    6 Vigilante + 2-Shot Vigilante

Add as many Vanilla Town roles as necessary to bring the total number of Town roles to 10.

    Mafia Power Roles:

Count the number of town power roles from above, then take that number minus one. Roll a die that many times and mark down the numbers. Add the corresponding roles from the table below.

    Mafia Roles
    1 Mafia Roleblocker
    2 Mafia Roleblocker
    3 Mafia Jailkeeper
    4 Mafia Role Cop
    5 Mafia Tracker
    6 Mafia Watcher

Add as many Mafia Goon roles as necessary to bring the total number of Mafia roles to 3.

    Example Setup:

First, roll a die 6 times.

    Town (6d6): 6 (K), 6 (K), 3 (I), 4 (P), 5 (P), 2 (I)
    (x2 K) 2-Shot Town Vigilante
    (x2 I) Town Voyeur
    (x2 P) Town Doctor

With 3 Town Power Roles, Mafia get two Power Roles. Roll a die 2 times.

    Mafia (2d6): 2, 5
    (2) Mafia Roleblocker
    (5) Mafia Tracker

Fill up the rest of the Town and Mafia with Vanillas and you get:

    x1 2-Shot Town Vigilante
    x1 Town Voyeur
    x1 Town Doctor
    x7 Vanilla Town
    x1 Mafia Roleblocker
    x1 Mafia Tracker
    x1 Mafia Goon

    Example Role PMs
    • Majority is not in effect.
    • Town wins when there are no threats to Town remaining.
    • Mafia factions win when they achieve Parity and there are no other evil factions remaining at any time.
    • Votes are automatically locked in when the Town must eliminate correctly.
    • Sleep is enabled. Vote for Sleep to forgo an elimination that Day.
    • Mafia factional kills are mandatory. Mafia must submit a factional kill each night, or a player outside their faction will be chosen at random.
    • Mafia factional kills are assigned. They can be tracked, watched, or roleblocked.
    • Mafia share a factional Night Kill, which is a single standard shot for their faction.
    • Day Actions must be submitted by 0 minutes before the end of Day.
    • Mafia may communicate at any time.
    • Tied votes will result in a player being eliminated at random from among the tied players.

    Phase Lengths

Days are 48 hours in length. Nights are 24 hours in length.

    FAQ

Are you unsure about how actions are processed or how roles interact with each other? Then read more here:

    ORDER OF OPERATIONS

Actions which modify other actions are processed before the actions they modify. When actions would modify each other in a inter-dependent dependency cycle, they are processed in the following order:

    Passives (e.g. Ninja, Strongman)
    Empowers
    Redirects
    Roleblocks
    Jails
    Doctors
    Bodyguards
    Kills
    Investigations
    Backups

The order in which an action was submitted during the night will not impact the order in which the actions are processed.

    ACTION FEEDBACK

These are the results you will get when you submit certain actions.

Non-investigative actions that do not gain anything from their actions do not get feedback of any kind.

Players will not be informed if their action was blocked or redirected. Actions with reports (e.g. Alignment Cops) will show the target they ended the Night on in the report and tell them if it failed, but not why or how, as shown below.

Investigative actions return results even if the target dies on the same night.

Actions that count as visits are counted as visits even if the actor dies on the same night.

Investigative roles (Tracker, Cop, etc.) when roleblocked:

Your action on Player B failed.
Trackers when tracking a person that didn't visit anyone (or if they targeted a Ninja):

Player C did not visit anyone.
Watchers when watching a person that wasn't visited by anyone (or only visited by a Ninja):

Player D was not visited by anyone.
Alignment Cop when investigating a town-aligned player (or a Godfather):

    Player E is Town
Watcher when watching a person that was visited by multiple people:

Player F was visited by Player G, Player H, Player I
    FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

How do I submit my action?
Use the form below the game thread. If your role has a night action, the form will only be visible during night phases. It's not possible to submit actions in advance of the night phase.

What does it mean if Mafia kills are assigned?
Assigned kills means the member of the mafia team that submitted the last factional night kill target for the Night will be the one assigned to carry out the kill. Since the kill is being carried out by a specific person, the kill can be blocked or modified by other actions. Assigned kills can seen by other roles such as Trackers and Watchers. If the kill is set to mandatory and the Mafia do not submit a kill in time, then the assigned killer is chosen at random.

If assigned kills are not turned on, then the Mafia factional kill cannot be blocked, modified or seen by any actions and has no particular person assigned to do it, even if there is only one of their players left.

Where do I find example role PM's?
This thread contains example role PM's for all roles currently supported by the Modbot as well as information on the various modifiers. Here you will find the answers to a lot of questions not covered in this FAQ section.

Which roles can self-target / target themselves?
All roles have the option to go with or without the Self-targetable modifier. Watchers are typically marked as Self-targetable (and will be suggested to the host by the system). Everyone else usually does not not have this ability. This is not a guarantee that your host applied them that way in your specific game.

Which roles are not able to target the same players on consecutive Nights?
All roles have the option to go with or without the Non-consecutive modifier. Doctors, Jailkeepers, Roleblockers, Empowers and Redirects are roles that are typically marked as Non-consecutive (and will be suggested to the host by the system). Everyone else usually does not not have this restriction, including Bodyguards. This is not a guarantee that your host applied them that way in your specific game.

Note that this Non-consecutive restriction applies to what you submit. You will not be able to submit the same player the next Night even if you failed or ended up on another target in the end. You may end still up on the same player if other actions force you to violate a targeting restriction.

Will I be told be told if my action was blocked or redirected?
No. Players will not be informed if their action was blocked or redirected. Actions with reports (e.g. Alignment Cops) will show the target they ended the Night on in the report and tell them if it failed, but not why or how.

What happens if 2+ of the same Blocking roles (e.g. Jailkeepers) target each other in a dependency cycle?
In the case of a cycle of only Jailkeepers, they will block actions lower in the order than their Jail and protect each other. In the case of only Roleblockers, they will block actions lower than Roleblock in the order. This means that the players are still trackable to each other that night by Trackers and Watchers. It also means that if one of them is Mafia and happens to simultaneously be the one submitting the factional kill that night in a game with assigned mafia kills, then the kill, and any other actions lower in the order, are blocked. This same principle applies to longer loops. I.e. in a A > B > C > D > A loop, everyone is blocked.

What happens if 2+ Redirectors try to redirect each other?
Redirection actions only affect single-target actions, so there is no dependency. They will successfully redirect any single-target actions the other has, including any assigned factional kills.

What happens if 2+ Manipulatives with different action types (e.g. a Roleblocker and a Jailkeeper) target each other in a dependency cycle?
Refer to the order of operations for dependency cycles. e.g. Roleblocks process before Jailkeepers.

What happens if a power lower in the order is the first one in a line? e.g. Jailkeeper A jails Roleblocker B who roleblocks Roleblocker C?
The order only matters when the actions are inter-dependent in a complete cycle. Since Jailkeeper A's action is not being modified, their action is processed first. That makes B's Roleblock fail. If there is no other modification, then C's actions will succeed.

If an X-Shot role is blocked while using one of its shots, do they lose that shot forever?
Yes. A 1-shot Vigilante being blocked while attempting to kill someone will not have their shot refunded.

What happens if a Strongman kills someone who is protected by a Bodyguard?
Strongman ignores the Bodyguard completely and kills the original person as if there was no interference.

Can a mafia team choose not to kill anyone during a night?
The host can determine this using the Mafia Factional Kill setting. Kills can be mandatory, optional, or disabled altogether.

The default is Mandatory. If the mafia do not submit a target for their kill, then someone will be chosen at random from among the players not on their team. Hosts tend to do this in order to avoid deadlocked games where the town keeps no eliminating and the mafia refuses to submit a kill. If the game has assigned kills and they do not submi, it will randomize which member of the team is carrying out the kill.

If there is only one mafia member left in a game without assigned kills, can the mafia factional kill then be blocked and/or tracked?
No. The kill is not assigned no matter how many players are there to carry out the kill.

Can the mafia submit a kill for one of their own members?
    Not using the factional kill.

If I kill someone, does their night action, if they have one, still succeed?
Yes. Killing someone doesn't prevent them from performing their night action. Refer to the order of operations. All kills happen at the end of the night, and everyone pulls the trigger simultaneously.

Can individual mafia members actions be submitted by their teammates?
No. If the mafia team want to use a role's action, then the player occupying that slot must submit the action themselves.

If a Lover is shot during the night, while the other Lover is protected that night, does the other Lover still die?
Yes. Nothing can prevent a Lover from dying of Lovesickness.

If a Bodyguard protects Lover A, while Lover B is shot during that same night, what happens?
Lovesickness is not processed as a kill, and cannot be gaurded against. Lover A dies of Lovesickness and the Bodyguard lives.

If there are any Innocent Childs in the game, are these confirmed in the thread right when the game begins?
No. Innocent Children are able to decide themselves when or if they wish to have the Mafia Host confirm their role and alignment in the thread. Note that this is exclusively a Day action and that it can take up to one minute to process the action.

What results are Alignment Cops, Full Cops and Role Cops given if they investigate a Godfather or a Miller?
Alignment Cops are told "Town" for Godfathers and "Mafia" for Millers. Full Cops are told "Vanilla Town" for Godfathers and "Mafia Goon" for Millers. Role Cops the exception: They are told "Godfather" for Godfathers and "Miller" for Millers.

Can Role Cops tell the difference between a Vanilla Town and Mafia Goon?
No. They are told "Vanilla" when investigating either of these two roles.

If I roleblock someone with a Bulletproof Vest, will that nullify the effect of the vest?
No. Bulletproof Vests are passive items that cannot be blocked.

If I roleblock Masons, Neighbors or Lovers with out of thread communication privileges, can I prevent them from talking at night?
No. Talking in a private thread is not considered an action that can be blocked.

If I roleblock a Godfather or Miller, will they still be revealed as being town-aligned to Alignment Cops and Full Cops that night?
Yes. Passive roles are not treated as actions and cannot fail.

Are you wondering about how to vote, submit night actions or multi-isolate players? Read about this and more here:

    HOW TO VOTE

Our forum votes for someone by using the vote tags: [V]Thingyman[/V]. Preview:

    ##Vote Thingyman

Make sure that you spell out the full, correct name. Abbreviations or misspelled names will not be registered by the Modbot.

To unvote, use the tags: [UNV][/UNV] . When unvoting you do not need to enter the name of the person that you are unvoting. Preview:

    ##Unvote

HOW TO VOTE BY PROXY / ANONYMOUSLY

Select your vote choice and click submit using the form at the bottom of the thread.

    Big Image: https://i.imgur.com/hBJ7arR.gif
    Click to load this image

    VOTING BUTTONS

You can also quickly vote for someone by clicking on the box with a checkmark icon, which will bring up an alphabetized dropdown containing the names of living players:

This will insert [V][/V] tags with the name of the player you selected in the dropdown, perfect every time.

Click the empty checkbox button to insert [UNV][/UNV].
    HOW TO SUBMIT NIGHT ACTIONS

If you have a night action, simply submit this at night by scrolling to the bottom of the game thread. Here you will find a night action form like this:

Click the dropdown and select the player whom you wish to use your night action on. You can change it as many times as you wish before the deadline expires.
    HOW TO REQUEST A VOTECOUNT

Votecounts will appear automatically at various intervals, but you can also call up votecounts yourself by following these steps:

First, you need to apply to join "Mafia Game Hosts" under Permission Groups.

Second, once your request has been approved, you will be able to call up votecounts by simply pushing the "Post Votecount" button in the top right corner of any game thread that you'd like an updated votecount for.

    OTHER SPECIAL FEATURES

    VIEWING VOTE HISTORY

There are three ways to access the vote history for any game.

    1. Click on the "Vote History" button in the top right corner of the game thread:

    2. Click on the "View Vote History" link, which accompanies all votecounts:

    3. Click on Modbot in the top forum menu. This will give you a list of ongoing and completed games:

Next, simply click on "Vote History" to view all votes for that game.

Following any of the above three steps will bring you to an overview like this one:

Click on a Voter's username to view all of the votes by their slot.

Click on a Target's username to view all of the votes for their slot.

    ISOLATING A PLAYER'S POSTS

If you wish to read a player's posts in isolation, simply click on "ISO" in the top right corner of one of that player's posts in the relevant thread as illustrated here:

Alternatively, you can access a player's posts in isolation by clicking on the number next to "Replies:" in the forum lobby.

Doing so will pull up a window listing the post counts for everyone who has posted in that thread. You access someone's posts in isolation by simply clicking on the number next to "Posts:" for that person.

The ISO view itself has Quote and Multi-Quote buttons inside it, which will make it very easy to quickly quote a lot of a player's posts for analysis or commentary:

    MULTI-ISOLATING

If you wish to read not just one player's posts, but you want to ISO multiple players, then click the "Multi ISO" button to the left of "Game Tools" and select the players in question as shown here:

    MULTI-QUOTING WHILE THREAD IS LOCKED

Note that you can multi-quote posts from even locked game threads. This is useful for when you wish to reread the game and do work during night phases.

After quoting the relevant posts, you simply open a different, opened thread and press "Go Advanced". Then add the quotes to your post by clicking the prompt below the post area as shown here:

Now, of course you can't post your work in the game thread while the thread is locked, but you can copy paste and save your work to a local file or the cloud and have it ready to post the very next day phase (if you're still alive, that is).

    BOOKMARKS

Whenever you open a game thread, you are able to bookmark posts. This is for many players an important tool for keeping track of and remembering vital pieces of information, reads, claims etc.

Also, note that these bookmarks are saved to your user account, meaning that it eliminates the trouble associated with keeping notes between different computers/devices.

If you want to bookmark a post, you simply scroll to the post that you want to bookmark and press "Set Bookmark" as shown here:

This will call up 5 different colored icons (Blue, Red, Yellow, Green, and Black) on the right side of the post in question. You can click any of these icons, which will then prompt you to include a note for the post.

If you don't want to include a note, you don't have to - just leave it blank. The color coding in itself can be a valuable tool. Maybe you want to use Red bookmarks for posts that you find suspicious, Green bookmarks for posts that you find townie, Black bookmarks for posts containing claims, or whatever system you can think of that will be helpful to you.

Once this is done, you have now successfully bookmarked a post with a certain color and maybe even a note. If you wish to remove the bookmark again, click on "Unset Bookmark".

    How do I access bookmarks?

There are two ways to access your bookmarks.
    1. Inside a game thread, you can access the bookmarks for that specific game by simply right clicking on the "Bookmark" button and opening the link.

This will bring you to a separate page that is automatically filtered to only show bookmarks from the game thread that you accessed the page from.
    2. You can also access your bookmarks by going to Features in the site's top menu:

This will bring you to a page where no bookmarks are shown by default. However, you have several filtering options.

You can filter by Game, by Player and by Color - and all of them at once if you so wish.

Here's an example of filtering by only red bookmarks in one specific game:

If you want to be taken directly to one of your bookmarked posts, you just click the post number.

    How do I quote bookmarks?

You can also multi-quote bookmarked posts by clicking the little "+" button seen above on the far right side of each bookmark.

Once you have multi-quoted all the bookmarked posts that you want to quote, you will then have to go to the game thread in which you wish to quote the bookmarked posts.

Here you have two ways of quoting the posts.

    1. Click on "Reply With Quote" on another post as shown here:

You will then probably want to delete the last post quoted in the reply box, but otherwise you should be good to go.
    2. Or you can do the more smooth option and click the "Reply To Thread" button at the top and bottom of the game thread - as shown here:

By doing this you will open up a reply box containing only your multi-quoted bookmarked posts.

    • Have fun.

D6 is a 13-player semi-open setup designed by Visorslash. It is a 13-player Semi-Open Variable setup designed to offer a more balanced experience compared to C9++.

    Town Power Roles:

To determine the town power roles, roll a die six times and mark down the numbers. Each roll corresponds to a grouping below.

    1-3: Investigative
    4-5: Protective
    6: Killing

Mark down the number of each grouping and add the corresponding roles from the table below.

    Investigative
    1 Innocent Child
    2 Voyeur
    3 Motion Detector
    4 Role Cop
    5 Tracker
    6 Parity Cop
    Protective

    6 Vigilante + 2-Shot Vigilante

Add as many Vanilla Town roles as necessary to bring the total number of Town roles to 10.

    Mafia Power Roles:

Count the number of town power roles from above, then take that number minus one. Roll a die that many times and mark down the numbers. Add the corresponding roles from the table below.

    Mafia Roles
    1 Mafia Roleblocker
    2 Mafia Roleblocker
    3 Mafia Jailkeeper
    4 Mafia Role Cop
    5 Mafia Tracker
    6 Mafia Watcher

Add as many Mafia Goon roles as necessary to bring the total number of Mafia roles to 3.

Modbot will do this at random for you.

Site rules apply, but please go above and beyond that. Try your best to make this game genuinely enjoyable for everyone playing. As with all my games, I will moderate this more heavily when it comes to toxicity, and reach out sometimes for minor things. Know that I do it for everyone. If you feel like the game is getting to you, that you are getting upset, or just want to vent, feel free to contact me at any point. I'm online on Discord most hours of the day (and night), Dobby#6775.

Be nice to eachother, make the game fun. Have fun. Etc.

Why then does the second section not just tell you to roll 5 times? And why would you ever need to fill up towards 3 mafia roles, since you'll always end up with 5? Why does the mafia table have two Roleblockers on it, when it's already possible to roll the same number twice on a d6?

I assume this will be explained in another thread somewhere, so if anyone has a link I'd love it
That's not exactly how it works, here's an example setup from an OP from when the game was previously run. Setup has been changed a little over time but I think this game was the most current version (am on phone rn so just copying it, but principle is the same). Also modbot does the randing, d6 is part of modbot praise the makaze

First, roll a die 6 times.

    Town (6d6): 6 (K), 6 (K), 3 (I), 4 (P), 5 (P), 2 (I)
    (x2 K) 2-Shot Town Vigilante
    (x2 I) Town Voyeur
    (x2 P) Town Doctor

With 3 Town Power Roles, Mafia get two Power Roles. Roll a die 2 times.

    Mafia (2d6): 2, 5
    (2) Mafia Roleblocker
    (5) Mafia Tracker

Fill up the rest of the Town and Mafia with Vanillas and you get:

    x1 2-Shot Town Vigilante
    x1 Town Voyeur
    x1 Town Doctor
    x7 Vanilla Town
    x1 Mafia Roleblocker
    x1 Mafia Tracker
    x1 Mafia Goon

Hope this makes more sense otherwise I'll elaborate further when I get to pc

  34. I won't be very present tonight, but I'll comment...

I won't be very present tonight, but I'll comment on a few things that hopefully gives some clarity.

Regarding 1) I'm not sure how to word this properly, but the idea with giving one "hit whatever the reason" has several factors behind it. Hopefully it can eventually be regarded like other online/video games, where, say, in Dota (because I know it the best) if you DC from a game, you get an auto x minute ban. This gets longer and longer with each time. You can't help it, but it does affect 9 other people, and as standard, DC/ragequit = short ban.

It's not meant to be a personal punishment. Just a standardized (ish) way of dealing with it.

    Some reasons include

    - Subjectivity: What constitutes a family/real life emergency? Is anxiety/depression a real life emergency? The obvious cases are easy to "judge", from experience: a big portion is not easy to decide on.

    - Integrity: Honestly, as moderators/hosts, we don't really have the right to ask people what their "emergencies" are. People should have the right to not disclose what their issue is without being punished for it. The old system was under these pretenses - we tried to take everything into consideration and have a balanced decision afterwards.

    - Workload: We do have several mods that have worked with it. It's still... A lot of work, a lot that has to be processed. Talking to the player, talking to the host, reading the ISO, and still have an eye on sign-ups, other ongoing games, and trying to do all this within reasonable time. We've made mistakes, we've reverted some decisions, we've gotten more info about reasons (that have kind of been "forced out of people") and even though we're hiring new flake moderator/s, and have automated a lot, it's still a ton of information that is tough to process.

    - Even though we don't assume the worst, it can be put into system. It's not something we want to try and evaluate if it's reasonable or not. Again, we want to minimize the amount of subjectivity involved in this.

I wrote a bit more about the reasoning behind in the OP of the announcement thread.

When it comes to 2), we will always err on the side of leniency. We don't expect to use this much, but needs to be clarified so subbing isn't replaced by extremely blatantly no-no cases like "I don't want to play this game so I'll just post 1-2-3-4-5 to get min req and leave". One or two days of not fully meeting post requirements won't really be moderated. Things like being an outed wolf/mod mistakes/etc. won't be moderated. I named a few other situations in the other thread, but a lot of other ones are probably included in this. Again, we won't be actively looking for people to "punish", and if it's unclear cases, we won't be actioning it.

It's not supposed to be regarded as a punishment, we want games to run, and to be as fair as possible to as many as possible - this included hosts and other players in the game, but also the players themselves. It's not an easy balance, and these changes aren't set in stone. We'll be evaluating it continuously and change things if needed.

Moth was modpeeked benign survivor in the last mash. While he remained committed to that game, it did create a situation where achieving wincon no longer required participating.

I was randed into a game I didn't sign up for last year and I think I missed D1 entirely, but I showed up and played once they got ahold of me.

A player subs in with the understanding that they cannot participate that day but will be fully active in the next cycle and they act accordingly.

A player signs up with the explicit understanding that in the off chance they survive to a certain day they will have no internet access for 24 hours and the host allows them to join.

    That sort of thing.
Hope it was made clearer earlier in this post, but of course, the no-brainer situations (i.e. peeked/outed/lolcatting/whatever) won't be moderated, otherwise the system would be fully moderated/mod-bot controlled.
If it's modbot things, someone accidentally getting spoiled/game integrity stuff like that that can't be helped, no that won't lead to a warning. Nor will the things I mentioned in the quoted post.

idrc about flake moderation changes because it looks effectively the same as before, altho i wasnt rly aware the site had a flaking problem so bad it needed to be addressed via this
Mainly, a lot of subjectivity has been peeled off, and maybe imo most importantly, we have the rules written out somewhere.

That's part of why we didn't implement the initial suggestions of "sub no matter the reason = 1 month ban". Family emergencies happen, sometimes repeatedly, but from another pov, it's still a sub. Up until today we've had that leniency, but there's a lot of subjectivity going into that, which makes it very hard to regulate.

From the pov that a sub = gameruining, the system exists to make sure that as many games as possible are "sub-free". There isn't a perfect system to balance those two. Having the two-hit system is more of a "this is just how it works" thing, a streamlined system, regardless of reason, which peels of the factor where moderators have to decide and grade different kinds of issues. We've written about part of the reasoning in the OP, and the mental health points apply to family emergencies as well, although not fully.

Maybe good to add, the leniency part comes in when ban length is decided - in those cases, it'll most likely be a shorter ban.

Is this monitored if the game host doesn't mind? For example I don't mind if players want to sub out of my games since I usually find it's pretty easy to find replacements, at least day 1/2
Yes, all subs are monitored, but we do look into each case still.

Again, the "subjectivity" is really hard to fully peel off. This is mainly meant for blatant cases, like. "1". "2". "3". etc, to reach post-min, but the spectrum does exists, and we'll usually communicate with hosts/players if that's the case.

Sticky: New Flake Moderation Process First sub:...

    New Flake Moderation Process

    • First sub: Flake moderators will contact the player, regardless of the reason for subbing out, and warn them that one more sub will probably result in a sign-up ban. If the reason provided is considered RWSTFO or something unacceptable like that, we will go straight to a sign-up ban, or in rare cases, a full site ban.

    • Second sub: This will usually result in a sign-up ban. Exceptions include if the second sub happens a long time after the player’s first sub (years -ish) or if the player has otherwise shown high/consistent activity in games.

    • Subout after a previous ban: This will usually lead to a new sign-up ban instantly. In most cases, this ban will be a longer one.

    • Repeated instances afterwards may lead to a very long, or permanent sign-up ban.

    • If a player that subs out or flakes is playing in more than one game, we will instantly temporarily ban the player from multi-tabling, and on top of that warn the player that repeated subouts will lead to a full signup ban.

    • If a player in the game is not meeting post requirements or min-posting without actually participating this will be treated as a sub since it's at least equally game-ruining.

    Ban lengths usually range from 1 month - 3 months - 6 months - 1 year - permanent. The standard progression is usually 1 month -> 3 months -> 1 year.

Changes to Flake Moderation New Flake...

    Changes to Flake Moderation

    New Flake Moderation Process

We will be changing the flake moderation process to be much more strict and consistent than it has been up to this point.

    Ban lengths usually range from 1 month - 3 months - 6 months - 1 year - permanent. The standard progression is usually 1 month -> 3 months -> 1 year.

Dealing with substitutions before they happen:

    • We have introduced a tool for hosts to use in sign-up threads. All players who /in will receive a message some time before the game to confirm their participation and will have to confirm before a certain deadline. Both the message timing and the confirmation deadline are set by the host(s).

This is the message that will be sent out:

Confirming represents a binding commitment to play the game to its conclusion. Failing to meet the activity requirements after the game starts will lead to a warning or more, no matter your reasons. Please review the details and make sure you will still be able to meet the activity requirements and play without subbing out before confirming.

Click the button below if you are still interested in playing.

    • We strongly recommend that hosts get some kind of contact info for all players during the sign-up period, preferably a Discord handle, so that they can communicate with all players to confirm and prod them at any point pre-game or during the game if needed.

    • We encourage hosts to clearly define what activity level you expect from players in the OP of the sign-up thread and let players know what volume of posts they can expect when playing your game. For bigger games especially, we strongly recommend that hosts confirm with the players that they've understood the activity requirements and will do their best to follow them.

    • Regarding toxicity related subouts, the moderator team is planning to become more proactive when it comes to dealing with toxicity while the games are ongoing, as opposed to waiting until after the game is over. What we need from you as host, as a player, or even as a spectator, to get this done is to make sure that toxic posts or situations are reported, even if you think someone else has already reported it so that we can make sure to catch these cases.

Another way to address toxicity related sub outs if a host wants to is designating a co-host who can be there for players that might want to vent, that feel like the thread environment is bad/toxic, are frustrated or considering subbing out for one reason or another, etc. Maybe most importantly, this co-host can notify the site moderators if there’s something pressing that needs to be dealt with.

    • If a player in the game is not meeting post requirements or min-posting without actually participating this will be treated as a sub since it's at least equally game-ruining. This should be reported/brought to moderators' attention so that it can be looked into.

    Final Words

These changes are our first step in trying to further decrease the number of subs and flaking in games. We do plan to reevaluate the changes and if they're unsatisfactory we will be adjusting them further.

    New Flake Moderation Policy

    Flake Moderation Process Overhaul

Recent discussions about substitutions and flake moderation have led to extensive discussions in the moderation team to try and rework the system for the better. This first post will be wordy, for "full disclosure" reasons, and some insight into how we have been reasoning. The second post will focus on the changes we are making. We've done our best to take what's been written in the feedback thread into consideration when reworking the policy.

Some general thoughts brought forward in the moderator team were along the lines of the following:

    • Basic sub considerations - We agree that the substitutions are a significant problem, as is flaking. That said, trying to reduce and discourage subouts could easily lead to a situation where it gets replaced by flaking, i.e. players making sure to min-post without truly participating in the game. Would replacing such a player or leaving them in the game doing the bare minimum, with no content, be better for the game's playability? Having clearly defined guidelines for players about expected activity is doable, but judging what activity or content level is "enough" is not as simple.
    • First steps in flake moderation - We do not believe we should moderate subs/flakes by going straight to a sign-up ban. The majority of the flake moderating we have done to date has seen positive results for curbing recurring subs/flakes so we want to stick with it for now. We may reassess this stance at a later time if we feel things need to be tightened up further.
    • Mental health in flake moderation - Participating in a game like Mafia can be very mentally straining for all of us and we acknowledge that strain may lead to a player needing to sub out. While there's no "invalid" level of mental health issues that would necessitate someone subbing out but we do think players who have subbed out of a game because of mental health reasons have a responsibility to make sure they’ll be able to play through their next game. This is both for that player's sake and also to be fair to the hosts and the rest of the players in the game. Therefore, we will treat sub-outs and flaking for mental health reasons the same as subbing/flaking for other reasons in the flake moderating process.

The "old" flake moderating process was along the lines of the following, in short:

We talk to the player about subbing out, why it's bad, etc. Repeated subbing or flaking leads to a (final) warning. When it comes to multi-tabling, we might often move straight to a multi-tabling ban.

If that doesn’t work, the next step is a sign ban. We usually do 1-3 months as a first ban depending on how their log looks, how close in time the sub outs/flake instances are, and how "bad" the subout situation looks.

If someone comes back from a ban and flakes or subs out again, we either warn the player again along the lines of "this is serious, you're not going to be allowed to play if this continues" or we go straight to another ban. This is also situation dependent.

Regarding the old flake moderation policy:

    • From what we've seen, the old system has been effective in addressing repeated subs. Most players respond well to being spoken to.
    • Sometimes our moderation (especially with signup bans) has taken a long time. Usually this is either because the game is still ongoing with potential OGI concerns, or because it involves another moderation issue.
    • At some points after the system was implemented, we've fallen behind because of some flake moderators not being around for a period of time. More recently, the main 2-3 flake moderators have put in a great deal of effort in improving our system used for flake moderation. Through the experience gained over the past few months, we've been able to smooth out the process and increase our speed and efficiency in addressing flake moderation on a weekly basis.
    • The old system is not really good at preventing substitutions from happening in the first place. We need to fix that.

    Going forward

We have identified some of the main reasons for subbing out and will be trying to address them in different ways before they happen. There are four main groups of people who sub out:

    1. Players new to the site that flake out of games and/or don't check the site frequently enough to participate at the level of what's required.
    2. Regulars that play frequently, and flake/sub out of a game once in a while. This can be for all kinds of reasons, including toxicity, mental health reasons, being too busy to play, family emergencies, etc.
    3. The serial flakers that the current flake moderation system exists to catch.
    4. Players subbing out because of moderation actions/host errors/reasons that are not the player's fault.

See the next post for how we’re reworking the system to prevent subs.

A very dramatic folk album put out by Joey Batey and Madeleine Hyland, Broadway veterans from the UK (and Batey is the bard on The Witcher on Netflix). The two of them are excellent vocalists and highlight themselves in different tracks across the album, but the best best vocals and songwriting are in Farewell Wanderlust. Great lyricism (with obvious Broadway influence) and

Baroque / indie prog / art rock / known for elaborate story concept albums / insert some other pretentious $%#! $%#! here? TDH are just fun but might not be everyone's thing. For catfit, this is their first full album since the completion of their 5-act concept album series in 2016, and marks the beginning of a new ambitious series. Instrumentation and composition is creative and engaging, I don't know that much about the story/themes but it's apparently some kind of sci-fi dystopia.

Minimalist folk songs about your wife dying of cancer, this is not an album for happy boys. It is very good though. As creating it was almost a form of therapy after his wife died I feel it fits the theme.

You have until the end of the month to listen to your album and get back to the other person.
i forced myself to listen through 3 of those songs. i hate xmas music. this was the worst kind. pa ra pa pam pam. im not touching that again, thanks.
