neighbourhoods and diaries are both very bad. people already have to spend a ludicrous amount of time on these games, forcing them to spend even more (especially if they are a wolf to keep up appearances) is just silly, when people have already said its too much (and people are already spending stupid amount of times on the game). diaries are bad from the perspective of - people will possibly try to use them to bolster their case to be advanced - creates a divide between those who do use and those who do not use them, if they exist should definitely not be able to be public or anything like that. (also you can just take notes yourself, there doesnt need to be any particular function done by mu to facilitate that). impo, when assessing a player, i dont give a $%#! what they posted privately, i only care about what they did in thread, thats what matters (yes, you can see the wolf plans in thread, particularly once you have access to the whole picture, and if there is stuff you are curious about you can certainly check the wolfchat or whatever, but by and large i think people should judged by in thread activities). if people want to liveblog their thoughts or track notes in their own spaces, that's fine, but there shouldnt be any sort of diary system baked into champs impo.

i don't particularly care for the mod on duty stuff, but some people seem to like it. i doubt it has any major effect, but perhaps a few people might want to use it and if its not a huge time investment for them, implementing it shouldn't be too hard. people normally have those they vent to anyway.

player voting.... theres not a huge amount you can do there. i generally think player voting should still be the mechanism for WC and finale because it gives agency to the players in the game, and not a 'faceless group' which the jury consists of (and they are no doubt burnt out at that point). there will be a lot more controversy if juries decide compare to groups of peers.

sending 2 people per site: heavily disagree - makes things even more cliquey, introduces more 'meta' components into champs which sucks, also going to raise more questions rightly or wrongly about vote gaming. i would rather less champs games be played than having 2 people from the same site.

re spec chat: i agree that it is generally impossible to remove spec chat and its an important experience for a lot of people. i think mods just have to be willing to employ higher standards of moderation - and should likely be trying to round up candidates for next year to be discord mods even if just for champs, to help keep spec chat in line. if someone is a consistently antagonistic presence that is always causing issues, just kick em out for a month, they'll learn how to play nice (to be clear - there being an argument or a heated discussion shouldn't just be a straight kick but if someone is constantly causing fights (and theres plenty of data on the problematic posters of this year at least), yall should already know who to keep an eye out for and who to kick if they start $%#!ing things up again. make it very clear that criticism is fine, but being an $%#! is not, if you can't show tact or class, you will be evicted without trial gg no re.

don't think votes should be publicised - people should not feel pressuresd to voting in a socially acceptable way, they should vote what they believe.

re post mins and subs: i hate subs, ban them. post min should be at least 15 game related posts progressing the game forward in some capacity. modkill otherwise. they'll learn. (i doubt either of these will be implemented but noting my thoughts here anyway). just sub out after one incident imo, make the rules very very clear to each individual when signing up that there is no wiggle room, you have to make 15 game related posts each day or you die.

re setup size: i personally like the idea of going back to 17ers - opens up a lot more room for setup design, it can be hard to design enjoyable, different games in 13ers.

standarise 48/24 wipes out a chunk of players who simply don't play those phases, i don't find the idea inherently disagreeable from an ease of scheduling standpoint, but just think it will cut out too many players possibly because of it.

players only dvc: i could be down for this, i could see players going into their own dvc for the game and then released into spec chat after the game is over. could be worth a trial.

i'm okay with reduction of betting and bans of bets after n1 for each game.

i think really, champ organisers need more people managing that side of things, and should be willing to get a bunch of people they can reasonably trust to not be turds to discord mod it up for champs to help manage the toxicity of spec chat. make it a temporary position or something, just so there can be enough eyes with power to be able to address issues. not sure how itd play out, but hopefully a more aggressive approach to spec chat will help tone down the atmosphere and posting to be less toxic.
How can you call hoods very bad when a brief search into your game histoey reveals youve never randed a neighbor role?

I think nighttime hoods are bad - but it absolutely is not extra work to manage a hood and thread. I invite you to play my next run of my favorite neighbor setup though, if you want to actually experience the role.

i've got plenty of experience with neighbourhoods palio (including my most recent game on mu!)

it absolutely is extra work and i don't understand how you think otherwise lol
your profile says otherwise? but .. ok

just say you hate socializing in games and move on

A lot of people in the community are very... vocal, and have strong opinions on stuff. If those opinions are about how bad someone has done, or just criticism on how someone has behaved in a game, or whatever, it's going to be contributing to a $%#!tier general tone in specchat. Mafia players by nature like to have and express opinions on stuff. Negativity from a few people shines through, and naturally some people will want to react to stuff written, and there goes a discussion. At all given points of time you can count on like, at least 5 Moderators reading every message and wondering where to draw the line, but when nobody is intentionally being a douchebag and/or knows/doesn't know where the line is drawn, you can't just modhat on and go "stop it, everyone, now" unless it's really crossing the line. And usually the people involved aren't really writing posts that can be singled out as "this is breaking the rules". And for every post/person/discussion that gets moderated, it leads to a multiple of that number, of people, that get upset and/or express discontent in one way or another, and that itself fosters the negative negativity loop that we see a lot of.
i don't disagree with this post, but i think the answer is just to care about the spirit of the rules not the letter of the rules

you clearly have to take more aggressive action

put up a disclaimer in spec chat: this is moderated in a harsher manner than other chats, be mindful of the way you talk about people in this chat or you will find yourself swiftly removed

i don't think you should care about whether someone explictly broke the rules, just say this is the way we are running spec chat from now on

don't infract people, just kick em

let em back in afterwards if you decide it wasnt as bad, but take action first, beg forgiveness later

idk if it'd work but worth trying

I think there is something to the idea of spec chat being a privilege and not a right

    Should Have Known Better

One of the most timeless and beautiful songs in the catalog. The ending of this song is so wonderful (and unusually heartwarming) - the way he transitions from regrets about his troubled relationship with his own mother, to looking with hope and wonder and love at the new generation having a better go of it. That's the good stuff.

I haven't listened too much to The Avalanche (related: I actually like the Personality Disorder version of Chicago more than the original ) and this had to be one of the subbed songs I've been least exposed to. It's definitely recognizable as an Illinois outtake, with the overly long title and pretty music over lyrics that are a bit disturbing and make you think "wait what the $%#!?" when you listen closely. That first verse especially hits the spot for me, lovely intro.

And the winter moves about Illinois

    The Greatest Gift

I understand why he couldn't find a place for this on Carrie & Lowell, but it feels nice as a sort of epilogue where he's had time to process his loss and finding his way toward happiness again. The short/sweet/simple structure works pretty well, but at the same time it feels over too soon. I'm never done listening to it when it ends.

So I run to my friends and lovers
I lay down my life for my brothers

In which Sufjan compares his own behavior to a notorious serial killer. Wholesome fun for the whole family. This used to be one of my favorites, but I've cooled on it a bit. Maybe there's only so much I want to listen to an unsettling snapshot of a psycho. The "oh my gooooooood" part remains impeccable.

Great song. Honestly I am not a huge fan of the vocals on this track, but it's a brilliant arrangement and encapsulates some of the best features of Adz: the random bloops, the more personal lyrics, the maximalist ethos that takes the music in ten different places while pulling in five directions but in a way that works. Plus a pronunciation guide for Sufjan's first name so you're not this guy: https://thehardtimes.net/blog/so-you...rt-a-new-life/

I know this song is prooobably about Jesus, but it's always seemed pretty gay to me despite the clear biblical references (and knowing Sufjan, it's definitely possible he intentionally made it in a way where both interpretations are valid). I used to like this song more - it's one of his most intimate and minimalist, which inherently appeals to me - but after hearing it so many times, it's a bit one-note in sound and not as interesting as some of his other tracks.

Walrus bonus category reveal :3 bonus. a song by sufjan...

    bonus category reveal :3
bonus. a song by sufjan stevens

This category is optional after how much blowback Shad got for his Radiohead category. Send me a song by Sufjan Stevens, and your score in this category will replace your lowest score in the first six categories (unless it is your worst score lmao). If you want to sub but don't know Sufjan, feel free to do some light research or just pick a song completely at random, here are a couple good resources:

    1. https://rateyourmusic.com/artist/sufjan-stevens (you can look through his discography and/or randomly pick a random song from a random album in 10 seconds if you want)

    2. https://www.reddit.com/r/indieheads/...ens_songs_2021 (this is different from my opinion but it's more or less the general consensus)

I'll rank the songs based on my personal enjoyment at the time of listening, so it's possible a song I love but have listened to a million times might not do as well as you might think. There is also an important caveat - if you send the same song as someone else, you're automatically ranked behind people who were the only person to send their song, even if you sent an awesome song and they sent One Last "Whoo-Hoo!" for the Pullman. Three people who send the same song are ranked behind two people who send the same song, and so on. And before you think you're oh so clever, live versions aren't a loophole to get around this. (Though you can send live versions if you really want.)

Hopefully this is less stupid than you think it is.

Prestige at #1 while incorrect is very acceptable but you better have the correct answer at #2
    Prestige
    Inception
    Memento
    The dark knight
    Interstellar
    Tenet
    Dunkirk

Havent watched his other 2 batmans

    Did i pass?
prestige and memento are great and I don't care for interstellar, so I approve. haven't seen tenet

what's wrong with Dunkirk? not a harry styles fan?

can you explain what you mean in more detail re paranoia issues?

and sorry about hedgehog mafia man, i was an $%#! and regret everything about that day
best way I can describe it is that someone will say something and i'll take that thing and everything else they are doing and make it fit a narritave of where they are trying to come at me that when i'm not in that mindset makes absolutely no sense but when i am in that paranoid state it makes complete and total sense.

do you mean in-person tournaments, or online...

tournaments. you go in knowing the max you are gonna lose and generally presents you with a good amount of play.

would you recommend getting into it?
yes if you can afford it. No if you can't afford it and/or are looking to make a living at it. It is much more feasible to do this as a hobby where you break even/make a few extra bucks on the side than it is to do as a full time job.

what is the best part about it to you?
I don't feel any anxiety when playing, even at a full table

why don't you play ww games very much anymore?

I find it hard to play without putting all my time into a game, and that combined with paranoia issues i think i've developed(not sure what i'd call it but that feels apt) makes werewolf not fun for me. I think one of the first timesi noticed them was that hedgehog game where I pushed on you that time. I think that had a large part of it that made me spiral in my head. In the subsequent years, when i play i found i ended up in that headspace more often to the point it was not worthwhile for me to play seriously.
do you mean in-person tournaments, or online somewhere? i honestly have no idea where to start lol
