    The recent string of unusual criminal occurrences in Marshall Union is now under investigation by Federal Agents.

    Sources indicate that four agents, details about whom shall remain undisclosed for the purpose of confidentiality, arrived in town late last night and intend to begin their investigation as soon as they become established. No further information on the agents' plans was provided, as the investigation is sensitive and ongoing.

    A spokesperson for the Town of Marshall Union declined to comment. We also reached out to Former Mayor Olivia McKinnon, but received no reply.




    Fall Festival Organizer Proposes Cancellation (by George A. Phillips): For the past 50 years, the fall festival has been an uninterrupted tradition in Marshall Union - but that tradition may soon come to an end.

    For the first time in the history of the event, a member of the organizing committee has made an official proposal to cancel this year's festivities, citing concerns about the string of unusual and dangerous incidents that have persisted over the past month. While there's no proof that these incidents will continue, or that canceling the festival will alleviate matters in any way, the organizer believes that the townsfolk's safety is the highest priority, even if it's merely placebo.

    The proposal will be officially voted on tomorrow morning.

    Old One of dreaming, depths, and natural disasters
    Symbol: a tentacle encircling a blue moon inscribed with an unknown glyph
    Temples: waterfront churches, seaside cliffs, remote islands
    Worshippers: those who have dreamed of its song, insane sailors, deep ones

    Kru'lhiar is believed to be asleep somewhere in a deep, unexplored part of the ocean. But while it slumbers, it dreams, and seeks out living things that are sleeping or in a meditative state to influence with its cursed melody. Those who spend enough time under its influence or are inoculated with some of its essence are twisted into a fish-like creature known as a "deep one", doomed to serve Kru'lhiar until death.

    There is no known record of Kru'lhair's previous awakening in written history, and what is known about it has been communicated to those under its influence through dreams. While the details vary, its physical form is usually described as an enormous serpent-like creature, often with humanoid features on its upper body with extra arms or tentacled appendages or both. A dark colored carapace and scales are often included, and numerous glowing orange eyes dot its form.

    Awakening it is said to cause a global calamity — a great flood, ice age, a meteor strike, massive fires, a plague, or some combination therein. Whether its servants truly want this outcome or are merely bound to Kru'lhiar's will from its song is hard to say with certainty, but the latter is often assumed to be true. The "deep ones" will be spared from Kru'lhiar's destruction, and live in the underwater city Leviacydnoch often described as a "paradise", but little is known of the place beyond that.

    Mayor's Sudden Resignation Shocks Marshall Union

    During an interview with WISD on their morning newscast, a gaunt and shivering Mayor Olivia McKinnon made the stunning announcement that she would be stepping down as mayor of Marshall Union effective immediately. The move was, to say the least, unexpected, as Mayor McKinnon boasted an impressive approval rating and as of earlier this week was seen cheerfully assisting with preparations for the fall festival.

    During the interview with WISD, Mayor McKinnon gave no concrete reason for her resignation, but frequently alluded to being "extremely stressed" and "constantly feeling everyone's eyes on her". After making the sudden announcement, she abruptly terminated the interview and exited the studio; her current whereabouts are not publicly known.

    As of print time, the mayor's office could not be reached for comment. In accordance with the city's bylaws, the title of Acting Mayor falls to Mayor Pro Tempore Mikael Meyer, until such time as a special election can be held.




    Local Shelter's Adoption Drive Continues (by George A. Phillips): For the third consecutive weekend, the Furry Friends No-Kill Shelter will be holding an adoption drive; all adoption fees for dogs and cats are halved all weekend. When asked about the primary reason for the drives, a spokesperson for the shelter cited overcrowding leading to a high-tension environment. Public records indicate at least 3 incidents of animals attacking and hospitalizing shelter employees over the past month, but the spokesperson isn't worried: "Animals are a reflection of their environment. Things may be stressful for them now, but with a loving home we're confident they'll return to being the loving companions we know they can be."

    Aikgthepe is a massive, sluggish Old One known to lay dormant for hundreds or thousands of years. It is unknown where Aikgthepe goes when it sleeps or how it moves, but when it nears the time for its reawakening its physical form appears in either a large body of water or large cave system. The true scale and form of Aikgthepe is difficult to known given it appears to modify its form to better suit its new lair. A consistent feature is a large, cavernous outer mouth that, without closer inspection, appears to be a rough rock surface with a single glowing light in the back that living creatures appear compelled to move towards. The "cave" narrows near the light source where its inner mouth, with its thousands of teeth, await the unsuspecting victim.

    When Aikgthepe begins to reawaken, and arrives in a new area, it takes the form of a geological feature, such as an island or as part of a cave system. Its influence passively draws any nearby intelligent creature to it by making them believe that its lair holds something they seek. When it has received enough sustenance, its influence will grow and it will find vulnerable individuals and promise them a great reward to awaken it, instructing them to form a cult. Its cult then extends the influence either through similar promises of safety, salvation, enlightenment, or discovery; or by infecting a animals or people with worms that burrow into the flesh, and attach to the spinal cord or brain directly in order to direct the infected towards the mouth of Aikgthepe.

    After Aikgthepe consumes enough meat, it will fully reawaken significantly expanding its influence in both size and strength causing all living creatures within approximately a 5 mile radius (as of the last occurrence) to walk into Aikgthepe's jaws. After this event, Aikgthepe disappears for an indeterminate amount of time until it returns to once again gorge itself on the living. Based on the records of known or suspected awakenings of Aikgthepe, the size of the area it consumes appears to increase at a concerning rate with each occurrence.
