Everybody who is awesome and cool and a great member of the community shouldn't be a mod. There's some obvious reasons, like they might be fun to play with but be lazy with reports, or bad at writing walls, or just not pleasant when confronted with negativity, or any other bad trait for a mod to have. The big reason though is... there's gotta be a community. Average Janes (or in this case, Exceptional Janes) have to exist and make the place fun without any obligation. People who do it because they want to, no title dictating that. Sometimes we're really hesitant to promote some of these everyday heroes because they do a fine job already where they are.

    Yeah!

Based on Ara's post, i would say you guys do too much modding by committee

Either an individual mod (or two) is qualified to make decisions on the reports they read, and act on them...or they aren't. I dont think discussing everything is a very efficient process.

    Just my thought on it.

    SB

Iirc you've been pretty vocal in past threads and Q&A 1.

Since then you have become a mod, and seen how the guys operate.

How has your perspective changed? How do you feel about some of your past posts/questions?

    Think it would interesting

i really dont think this was asked of anyone tbh

Quote as many 4 year old posts as you want but i dont think this is the intention for black lists at all. I think Boq's post made it sound like less of a grey area than he intended maybe?

Black lists are for picky S.O.B's like me with high standards.

Personally, MU has gotten too big for blacklists, i use impromptu white lists now.

Do i know this person who just /in'd?
If not, does somebody i trust know this person?
If not, do i trust their word that they are good people?

Works great, and is more inclusive than you'd think. Bit of extra work on my part tho.

Like possibly a green/blue/yellow/orange/red scale in terms of how often that players behaviour disrupted games in the past.
well, this literally doesn't exist in any form for [non-rulebreaking and not even borderline but game-disruptive behavior ie bad fps that people read as gamethrowing, obnoxious style, etc]. it just doesn't. we don't track that.

and it doesn't really exist in any form that could easily be turned into such a scale for actual moderated behavior either. like that's not how our logs really work. they're a list of actions and/or noteworthy behavior with links to relevant threads.

i also have a significant philosophical issue with it on that wide of a scale, for this kind of context. i'm having trouble articulating it, but there's more to a person's behavior than what you're describing. time since, concentration, reaction, etc. and most instances of moderated behavior are not actually individually something i would call "disruptive", exactly, though you may be using that word differently than i am.

and also it's just, way way more information than i'd ever be comfortable sharing about moderation. feels shamey.
Ok i guess she never implied that only actionable stuff was logged. And she's talking about bad play more than bad behaviour.

But non-actionable things being logged seems like a new revelation for this thread all the same...

We'll keep tabs on people getting rowdy and whatnot but won't log people poorly FPSing and playing like crap.

That is what the database is for.

None of the previous 3 posts invalidates the FEELINGS LanMisa, bop, or anyone else has or has had w.r.t. moderation.

Just because you don't agree, or have not had a similar experience, doesn't mean that someone else does not FEEL differently or is not entitled to FEEL differently.

Sometimes language is important in text-only communication.

I think Round 2 has gone rather well, and i dont think anyone has come in here with anything other than the noble goal of trying to improve moderation on MU.

Let's refrain from bashing people for doing so please

The discussion about the phrasing of that one Lissa post was ridiculous but I blame everyone equally for that

I like that this new rule is more consistent, and means less Alts that arent Alts.

But it does mean more work for you guys. Maybe people will self-ban less now tho?

Role of the Day
Pirate Baker

The Pirate Baker may each night target another living player and bake a piece of bread formed after their ability. This action will also roleblock the targeted player and prevent them from using their night action. On the following night, the Pirate Baker may pass their bread to another player, which will allow that person to use the ability that the bread was formed after. The Pirate Baker cannot use their own bread.
