    DAY FOUR FLAVOR

"I didn't do it," protested the SANDSHIPPING clerk, "I didn't kill Keith."

He didn't even know why he was being accused.

"Keith was one of my best customers. It makes no sense."

Vault_Dweller worked at the local post office, shipping packages, mailing letters, selling stamps. Keith, the recently-murdered SANDSALESMAN, was always in, buying shipping supplies, handing over new packages to go out.

It wasn't the best business, it wasn't the worst. He was content. The SANDSHIPPING clerk did his duty.

Perhaps the position gave him ease of access to smuggled MUDS weapons or propaganda. He could be distributing MUDS contraband, hiding it, masking it. This disregards that he worked at the post office's counter, and not in the back, inventorying and sorting newly-received packages.

No, the SANDSHIPPING clerk would only handle packages sent from within the SANDS ACQUISITIONS, INC.

That didn't matter to the raging mob, of course. One of their own was dead, and they didn't know who to trust. Not even the friendly, neighborhood postman.

"Let's see if he bleeds MUDS," someone shouts, and the SANDSHIPPING clerk is swarmed.

Vault_Dweller was lynched! He is revealed to be the SANDSHIPPING clerk, Town!

    DAY ONE FLAVOR

It was a typical day for the SANDSMITH. Wake up, head to the shop, forge weapons out of SANDS, go home to the missus, watch the SBC (SANDS Broadcasting Channel), go to sleep, do it all over again. Routine. Almost ritualistic in its consistency.

But it was not so typical on his walk home.

The SANDSMITH stepped out of his shop, locking the door behind him. He affectionately patted the door like he did every day on his way home. His key ring jingling as he deposited it back into his pocket, he turned to face the SANDSy street. Whistling as he strolled along towards home, he noticed nothing out of the ordinary.

The streets always had other SANDSizens walking down them.

But he didn't clock that there were more people than usual on the streets. Or that their focus was on him. If he had, would it have made a difference?

"We know you're supplying weapons to the MUDS," a voice whispered in his left ear. He turned around, startled from his reverie, and found no one.

    "We know."

He stopped and whirled, seeking out the source of this heinous accusation.

Nobody in particular looked responsible. And yet, everyone did. He realized many eyes were fixated his way. Instead of where their beholder should be going.

"I'm a loyalist. I would never," he protested, to anyone who might hear or care.

And though his accusers heard, they did not care. Their minds were made up. The SANDSMITH was a traitor to the emporium. He must be dealt with.

So they hanged him in front of his shop. One oh-so-daring fellow approached the freshly-deceased corpse and cut an arm, eager to prove it was MUDS that flowed in the SANDSMITH's veins.

    But only SANDS poured out.

The Mighty Quinn was lynched! He is revealed to be The SANDSMITH, Town!

    THE LEGACY OF THE SANDS

Deep within the salt mines of Smogon reside a collection of weathered scrolls. As the generations go by, they become more legend than reality. The names and faces of the warriors, saboteurs, and ordinary citizens whose battles are chronicled within fade from memory. Fewer and fewer denizens go to reread the scrolls. Even fewer veterans of the conflicts remain to relive the memories.
It began with an abominable snowman looking for a mythical item few could possess, and even fewer could use: the SANDS. Not everyone in the expansive salt mines appreciated the quest, and sought to stifle the creature's desires. Mafia after mafia tried to snuff out the spark, but once the light of the SANDS is lit, it cannot be stopped.

It can be corrupted, however. Others began seeking an equally-mythical item, this one shrouded in infamy: the MUDS. Their journeys were met with the same scorn and disdain. Town halls were called to discuss the outrage, what some called too unnatural to allow to continue.

Perhaps they were right. Nobody could have predicted the outcome of discovering the items.

The gateway to the mystical SANDSLAND reopened. Smogon's salt mines and the SANDS ACQUISITIONS, INC., were reunited. Ruled by a portly, overweight sandwich-devouring fiend known as MR. SANDSMAN, the prosperous nation had lived in isolated bliss for generations. Things were beautiful for a brief moment in time. Smogon and the SANDS ACQUISITIONS, INC., traded resources and exchanged ideas, art, philosophy. George Harrison's My Sweet Lord would play over the montage of this era in history in the movie.

Reopening the gateway had unintended consequences. But not entirely unexpected. It had been sealed for a reason, after all.
The rank swamp the MUDS REBELS called home soon discovered their mortal enemies, the SANDS, were accessible again. Dire conflicts raged between the two societies for thousands of years before SANDSLAND sealed their emporium off.

At first Smogon looked down upon the MUDS, believing them to be uneducated savages. It soon became clear not all was as ideal as it seemed with the SANDS ACQUISITIONS, INC. Their acquisitioning had stopped nowhere, bulldozing over the MUDS' original swamps and bogs, drying out all of their muddy homes. The MUDS REBELS took up the mantle against their oppressors and fought back. They refused to rest until the SANDS paid for their crimes against MUDSmanity.

And so, the happiness between Smogon's salt miners and the SANDS ended after SANDS Mafia. And MUDS Mafia began.

Another faction, a more fluid, nebulous one, emerged.
They have gone by many names throughout the Mafias, and the scrolls are not always clear if each polar-oriented group is truly the next generation of the original SNOWS or not. They have always been present in some form, though, seeking to assert their own icy will over the world.

Perhaps they remain frozen in their own ice. They have been silent a long time.

    As have the STARS.
Whether a group of celestially-oriented beings, or a cluster of celebrities, the STARS also sought control. After they were thoroughly embarrassed in the SANDSEMONIUM Mafia conflict, they have been relatively quiet. Biding their time, perhaps, or just more interested in other causes currently? The scrolls do not say.

The Smogon salt miners eventually became known as the SALTS to the other civilizations. In their own scrolls of the conflicts, the SALTS were part of only the most hooliganish of hooliganry, such as the BIGSANDS 2 Mafia war.

Eventually, the lands became cut off again. The mystical items the SANDS and the MUDS were lost to time. The SANDS, the MUDS, the SNOWS, the STARS, the SALTS... all have their own interpretations and retellings of events. Other factions that emerged along the way and either perished later, or knew when to quit and evacuated the war-torn area, came and went.

Until now. Studious but foolish scholars of the Mafia University undertook an architectural mission deep into the lost underbelly of the Smogon salt mines. There, they found the room containing the scrolls. The scrolls that told the SALTS' view of all the SANDS-inspired mafia conflicts.

    They found something else, too.

A convoluted treasure map that explained where the SANDS were hidden for safety. A curse was placed on the SANDS before they were buried. Whosoever quested for the SANDS would be compulsively drawn to find their counterpart the MUDS as well. Finding and reuniting both, though, could lead to catastrophic results.

Which is, of course, exactly what whoever placed the curse desired.

The Mafia University scholars undertook the exhausting journey to find the SANDS. And once they were found, nearly lost their lives to their newfound obsession of finding the MUDS as well. But they did. They found both.

And SANDSLAND's gates opened once again.

Now, the SANDS ACQUISITIONS, INC., great in number, ventured out into the world once more. To seek out new, moist land and civilizations. To dry them out. To crumble them.

Only the MUDS REBELS stand in their path, the other groups fallen silent with time. Small in number but as crafty and determined as ever, the descendants of original combatants will not fail to stop the SANDS from acquisitioning everything this time.

Who will stand victorious at the end of this Mafia?

    FAQ

Are you unsure about how actions are processed or how roles interact with each other? Then read more here:

    ORDER OF OPERATIONS

Night actions are processed in this order:

    Strongman kills
    Roleblocks
    Jails
    Doctors
    Bodyguards
    Kills
    Investigations
    Backups

When an action was submitted during the night will never matter when the actions are processed.

    ACTION FEEDBACK

These are the results you will get when you submit certain actions.

Non-investigative roles when they submit an action (they also receive this if they are roleblocked):

Your action on Player A was received.
Investigative actions return results even if the target dies on the same night.

Actions that count as visits are counted as visits even if the actor dies on the same night.

Investigative roles (Tracker, Cop, etc.) when roleblocked:

Your action on Player B did not return any results.
Trackers when tracking a person that didn't visit anyone (or if they targeted a Ninja):

Player C did not visit anyone.
Watchers when watching a person that wasn't visited by anyone (or only visited by a Ninja):

Player D was not visited by anyone.
Alignment Cop when investigating a town-aligned player (or a Godfather):

    Player E is Town
Watcher when watching a person that was visited by multiple people:

Player F was visited by Player G, Player H, Player I
    FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

How do I submit my action?
Use the form below the game thread. If your role has a night action, the form will only be visible during night phases. It's not possible to submit actions in advance of the night phase.

What does it mean if the Mafia Host says that night kills are assigned?
In games with this setting turned on, the member of the mafia team that made the most recent night kill submission will be the one assigned to the kill, which means that the kill can be blocked if a Town Roleblocker or Town Jailkeeper target the mafia player in question. Similarly, the kill can be tracked and watched by Town Trackers and Town Watchers. If this setting isn't turned on, then it doesn't matter who the last person to submit the mafia kill is, as the kill is unblockable and untrackable in this case.

Where do I find example role PM's?
This thread contains example role PM's for all roles currently supported by the Modbot as well as information on the various modifiers. Here you will find the answers to a lot of questions not covered in this FAQ section.

    Which roles can self-target?
Only Watchers are able to use their ability on themselves at night. This means that Doctors or Jailkeepers aren't able to protect themselves, for example.

Which roles are not able to target the same players on consecutive nights?
Doctors, Jailkeepers, and Roleblockers are not allowed to target the same player twice in a row. Everyone else is, including Bodyguards. Note that this non-consecutive restriction still holds true even if one of these three roles were blocked the night before when targeting the person that they're attempting to target again.

What happens if Jailkeeper A and Jailkeeper B or Roleblocker A and Roleblocker B target each other (and are not targetted by other blockers)?
In the case of Jailkeepers, they will block and protect each other. In the case of Roleblockers, they also block each other. This means that the two players are trackable to each other that night by Trackers and Watchers. It also means that if one of them is mafia and happens to simultaneously be the one submitting the factional kill that night in a game with assigned kills, then this kill is blocked. This same principle applies to longer loops. I.e. in a A > B > C > D > A loop, everyone is blocked.

What happens if Jailkeeper A targets Roleblocker B who targets Jailkeeper A?
Jailkeeper A will be blocked in this scenario. Refer to the order of operations: Roleblocks process before jails.

What happens if Jailkeeper A targets Roleblocker B who targets Player C?
As stated above, roleblocks process before jails, so Roleblocker B will successfully block Player C. I.e. Jailkeeper A will fail to block Roleblocker B, but will still protect Roleblocker B.

What happens if Jailkeeper A targets Jailkeeper B and Jailkeeper B targets Jailkeeper C (who isn't targeting any of the former two)?
In this case, Jailkeeper A would prevent Jailkeeper B's block from occuring, meaning that Jailkeeper C's action is not blocked.

If an X-Shot role is blocked while using a shot, do they lose that shot forever?
Yes. A 1-shot Vigilante being blocked while attempting to kill someone will not have their shot refunded.

If someone with a Strongman modifier kills Player A who is protected by Bodyguard B, who dies?
Player A will die, and Bodyguard B will survive.

Can a mafia team choose not to kill anyone during a night?
The host can determine this using the Mafia Factional Kill setting. Kills can be mandatory, optional, or disabled altogether.

The default is No. The mafia factional kill is compulsory. This is done in order to avoid deadlocked games where the town keeps no lynching and the mafia refuses to submit a kill. If the game has assigned kills, it will be randomized which member of the team is carrying out the kill.

If there is only one mafia member left in a game without assigned kills, can the mafia factional kill then be blocked and/or tracked?
    No.

Can the mafia submit a kill for one of their own members?
    No.

If I kill someone, does their night action, if they have one, still succeed?
Yes, killing someone doesn't prevent them from performing their night action (unless they investigated someone, in which case they will not receive a report). Refer to the order of operations: All kills happen at the end of the night, and everyone pulls the trigger simultaneously.

Can individual night actions be proxied on mafia teams?
No. If the mafia team has a Mafia Roleblocker, for example, and they want to use this role's action, then the player occupying that slot must submit the action themselves.

If a Lover is shot during the night, while the other Lover is protected that night, does the other Lover still die?
Yes. It's not possible to prevent a Lover from dying of love sickness.

If a Bodyguard protects Lover A, while Lover B is shot during that same night, what happens?
A dies of love sickness and Bodyguard lives.

If there are any Innocent Childs in the game, are these confirmed in the thread right when the game begins?
No. Innocent Childs are able to decide themselves when or if they wish to have the Modbot confirm their role and alignment in the thread. Note that this is exclusively a day action and that it can take up to one minute for the Modbot to process the action.

What results are Alignment Cops, Full Cops and Role Cops given if they investigate a Godfather or a Miller?
Alignment Cops are told "Town" for Godfathers and "Mafia" for Millers. Full Cops are told "Vanilla Town" for Godfathers and "Mafia Goon" for Millers. Role Cops are told "Godfather" for Godfathers and "Miller" for Millers.

Can Role Cops tell the difference between a Vanilla Town and Mafia Goon?
No. They are told "Vanilla" when investigating either of these two roles.

If I roleblock someone with a Bulletproof Vest, will that nullify the effect of the vest?
No. Bulletproof Vests are passive modifiers that cannot be blocked from working.

If I roleblock Masons, Neighbors or Lovers with out of thread communication privileges, can I prevent them from talking at night?
    No.

If I roleblock a Godfather, will they still be revealed as being town-aligned to Alignment Cops and Full Cops that night?
    Yes.

    USING THE SOFTWARE

Are you wondering about how to vote, submit night actions or multi-isolate players? Read about this and more here:

    VOTING BBCODES

Our forum votes for someone by using the vote tags: [V]Thingyman[/V]. Preview:

    ##Vote Thingyman

Make sure that you spell out the full, correct name. Abbreviations or misspelled names will not be registered by the Modbot.

To unvote, use the tags: [UNV][/UNV] . When unvoting you do not need to enter the name of the person that you are unvoting. Preview:

    ##Unvote

    VOTING BUTTONS

You can also quickly vote for someone by clicking on the box with a checkmark icon, which will bring up an alphabetized dropdown containing the names of living players:

This will insert [V][/V] tags with the name of the player you selected in the dropdown, perfect every time.

Click the empty checkbox button to insert [UNV][/UNV].

    SUBMITTING NIGHT ACTIONS

If you have a night action, simply submit this at night by scrolling to the bottom of the game thread. Here you will find a night action form like this:

Click the dropdown and select the player whom you wish to use your night action on. You can change it as many times as you wish before the deadline expires.

    CALLING UP A VOTECOUNT

Votecounts will appear automatically at various intervals, but you can also call up votecounts yourself by following these steps:

First, you need to apply to join "Mafia Game Hosts" under Permission Groups.

Second, once your request has been approved, you will be able to call up votecounts by simply pushing the "Post Votecount" button in the top right corner of any game thread that you'd like an updated votecount for.

    VIEWING VOTE HISTORY

There are three ways to access the vote history for any game.

    1. Click on the "Vote History" button in the top right corner of the game thread:

    2. Click on the "View Vote History" link, which accompanies all votecounts:

    3. Click on Modbot in the top forum menu. This will give you a list of ongoing and completed games:

Next, simply click on "Vote History" to view all votes for that game.

Following any of the above three steps will bring you to an overview like this one:

Click on a Voter's username to view all of the votes by their slot.

Click on a Target's username to view all of the votes for their slot.

    ISOLATING A PLAYER'S POSTS

If you wish to read a player's posts in isolation, simply click on "ISO" in the top right corner of one of that player's posts in the relevant thread as illustrated here:

Alternatively, you can access a player's posts in isolation by clicking on the number next to "Replies:" in the forum lobby.

Doing so will pull up a window listing the post counts for everyone who has posted in that thread. You access someone's posts in isolation by simply clicking on the number next to "Posts:" for that person.

The ISO view itself has Quote and Multi-Quote buttons inside it, which will make it very easy to quickly quote a lot of a player's posts for analysis or commentary:

    MULTI-ISOLATING

If you wish to read not just one player's posts, but you want to ISO multiple players, then click the "Multi ISO" button to the left of "Game Tools" and select the players in question as shown here:

    MULTI-QUOTING WHILE THREAD IS LOCKED

Note that you can multi-quote posts from even locked game threads. This is useful for when you wish to reread the game and do work during night phases.

After quoting the relevant posts, you simply open a different, opened thread and press "Go Advanced". Then add the quotes to your post by clicking the prompt below the post area as shown here:

Now, of course you can't post your work in the game thread while the thread is locked, but you can copy paste and save your work to a local file or the cloud and have it ready to post the very next day phase (if you're still alive, that is).

    BOOKMARKS

Whenever you open a game thread, you are able to bookmark posts. This is for many players an important tool for keeping track of and remembering vital pieces of information, reads, claims etc.

Also, note that these bookmarks are saved to your user account, meaning that it eliminates the trouble associated with keeping notes between different computers/devices.

If you want to bookmark a post, you simply scroll to the post that you want to bookmark and press "Set Bookmark" as shown here:

This will call up 5 different colored icons (Blue, Red, Yellow, Green, and Black) on the right side of the post in question. You can click any of these icons, which will then prompt you to include a note for the post.

If you don't want to include a note, you don't have to - just leave it blank. The color coding in itself can be a valuable tool. Maybe you want to use Red bookmarks for posts that you find suspicious, Green bookmarks for posts that you find townie, Black bookmarks for posts containing claims, or whatever system you can think of that will be helpful to you.

Once this is done, you have now successfully bookmarked a post with a certain color and maybe even a note. If you wish to remove the bookmark again, click on "Unset Bookmark".

    How do I access bookmarks?

There are two ways to access your bookmarks.
    1. Inside a game thread, you can access the bookmarks for that specific game by simply right clicking on the "Bookmark" button and opening the link.

This will bring you to a separate page that is automatically filtered to only show bookmarks from the game thread that you accessed the page from.
    2. You can also access your bookmarks by going to Features in the site's top menu:

This will bring you to a page where no bookmarks are shown by default. However, you have several filtering options.

You can filter by Game, by Player and by Color - and all of them at once if you so wish.

Here's an example of filtering by only red bookmarks in one specific game:

If you want to be taken directly to one of your bookmarked posts, you just click the post number.

    How do I quote bookmarks?

You can also multi-quote bookmarked posts by clicking the little "+" button seen above on the far right side of each bookmark.

Once you have multi-quoted all the bookmarked posts that you want to quote, you will then have to go to the game thread in which you wish to quote the bookmarked posts.

Here you have two ways of quoting the posts.

    1. Click on "Reply With Quote" on another post as shown here:

You will then probably want to delete the last post quoted in the reply box, but otherwise you should be good to go.
    2. Or you can do the more smooth option and click the "Reply To Thread" button at the top and bottom of the game thread - as shown here:

By doing this you will open up a reply box containing only your multi-quoted bookmarked posts.

By doing this you will open up a reply box containing only your multi-quoted bookmarked posts.

look at the spreadsheet b4 u talk about early death villagers being 'left out'

n2 death villagers are the MOST likely group to be voted on to the next round, if u want to make it to finals or WCs, be a villager and die on n2. this narrative is completely fictional and not supported by any game.

d1/d2 mislynches don't move on for obvious reasons. pls do not spread this false narrative/misinformation, i made a sheet that proves early nk villagers have extremely good chances of moving on. i know you didn't mean to, sunbae, so i'm not ragging on u personally, just.. the info is out there to combat this concept.

i also don't believe recency bias is much of a thing, who's to say all jurors who read game 1 read it at the same time? if a game is higher quality than another game it will send more people. doesn't matter if it's played early or late.

I did some studying into how post count impacts your voting placement, not for S5 iirc but for S4 at the least.

    2 thots:

high volume games probably (certainly) do favor wolves, and wolf flooding so that low-activity villagers can't keep up or pull accurate reads is a valid strategy. putting a post limit on will probably help village win rate (which needs it) but is limiting a wolf tactic/boon really something you want to do?

if jury keeping up is a concern, have jury members from the prior season assist in some capacity? not sure if any of my fellow finalists are competing again but if not, we've done the process and could voluntarily enlist to read games and help sort the wildcards.

real talk if someone doesn't post for a full day...

real talk if someone doesn't post for a full day cycle (and there is no early/turbo hammer) sub them tf out. there should not be a d2 AND a d3 where someone 0 posts. if they don't show at all d2, they need to be GONE.

especially if you guys are doing a PR-heavy setup where someone being or not being there can be kinda angleshooty indicative of what role they may or may not be. if there is a save on n2 and someone 0 posted d2 and d3.... guess who isn't the doc. aggressive subbing will lead to less bad juju around roles and help people not be frustrated by the lack of response from a power role. imagine if your cop has 5 total posts by d4.

i don't really care if you have a postcount min or not but 0 posting for a full cycle should be an automatic gtfo.

when 'cult' appears in a champs setup thread

idk why some of yall raggin on mountainous. the more PRs you add in a noc the more likely it is one town bozo ruins it for the rest with bad reads. "jUsT cOnViNcE tHeM uR rIgHt" ok but everyone knows there are ALWAYS hooligans who refuse to listen to anyone else and perceive themselves as the greatest mafia solver of all time. or just don't read at all.

the only 'downside' to mountainous is the best town players will die early mostly BUT AS WE HAVE SEEN MANY TIMES n2 killed town are extremely likely to move on anyway so a setup that combats The Strong Town Bias can only be good for overall voting equality.

soah's setup is interesting but i feel like it has potential for 'too many cooks in the kitchen' in a NOC. it looks like a setup we would use in OC more than one for a NOC, where being vanilla is a heck of a lot more boring. it def needs to be tested.

prepare yourselves for my esteemed fellow forummate's entrance into the competition once we have selected my worthy successor. since our s5 candidate did not reach my levels of greatness.

    im gonna b That Girl

how are you gonna tighten up subbing rules/post minimums so people who are clearly Not Playing The Game and not interacting in any meaningful way with other players are either incentivized to rectify that behavior, or removed from the game more readily?

especially in games with PRs where a non-poster not being subbed, but a PR visibly succeeding, essentially removes that slot from PR-hunt contention.

Completed lan that was one of the most impressive,...

lan that was one of the most impressive, well-elucidated f3 last stands i've seen.

and yes spec chat/DVC was concerned you would self hammer and the game had just been too much for you.

but you rallied and found it within yourself to put in all that effort writing out why you were town, clearly displaying your mech clear, and why scarechro were wolf.

and YOU did that. maybe not for you, because you would have self-voted to end it all for you, but for elusia and your fellow villagers. and tbh that's the T about depression - you may not be able to do it for yourself. but it was within you to do it for other people, and sometimes doing it for someone else is all you need to do until you can do it for you again. you were emotionally bankrupted by this game but you still said no i am not going to disappoint my team and my hydra partner by pulling a brainboi.

though, and i think this is a misconception, if you had asked for a sub, nobody would have judged you. people think there is something wrong with subbing or being subbed but it is a sign of maturity and awareness to say "you know what, i am not in the right place for this game, i can't commit time to it, my mental health is suffering, please replace me." because your team will fight another day with fresh blood in the slot to pick up your battles.

rand wolf, sub tf out is where people lose respect. but playing until f5 and realizing you are being harmed by the stress of the game and proactively asking for a sub is very respectable play.

i was very concerned about your mental state and that is why i didn't hammer f5 - you were very concerned (irrationally imo considering aquilla's reluctance to sub SALT/virginscum) kimmy would be punished for not meeting the post cap so i didn't want to hammer. plus i wanted kimmy to answer about n4. and you had said you were going to bed so i thought you actually WERE going and thus when we hammered wouldn't matter.

    so i am very proud of you in f3 and how you pulled yourself back together, gathered your emotions, and posted a compelling, game-winning case. you took my energy one last time to survive ;~;

that said i do think it's a good idea for you to take a break from playing mafia. not the community necessarily, but this game seemed to stress you a lot more than any game of mafia should. if you're breaking down over it, it's time to take a step back, and get to a better place irl. mafia is meant to be fun not panic attack inducing. take care of yourself first and foremost, nobody will ever look upon you poorly for that and if they do they're an idiot.

also respect to scare and chris as people for not breaking lan's spirit to win. i've done the bullywolf to win and it's a valid win but people don't really respect that tactic. and we know you are capable after chris got so pissed and called me trash lmao. which i can handle i'll just call u trash right back. but someone like lan is a delicate boi.

  31. Regarding post caps/flooding/biased jury for high...

Regarding post caps/flooding/biased jury for high counts I didn't track that this year though smartbomb did, but for S4 and S3 yes it is true that you are way more likely to be voted both by the people in your game and the jury to WCs if you are town and in the top 6 posters - interesting because a lot of the N2 kills only had 2 days to post in and probably still outposted many of the lower villagers.

However I don't think the same is true for wolves - their post count rankings can fluctuate much more. And a wolf never topposted.

So there is reason to believe imo that extremely high post volume by villagers is only hurting villages, and wolf flooding is not a strategy actually utilized in many/any champs games. I would be most interested to see if the village win rates go up with a post cap to further support the notion that too high of a volume by villagers is straight up harming their own chances of winning - but not of progressing.

That said, extremely low post count volumes are harming villages as well. If someone 5 or 10 posts (the bare minimum) with little actual content they are impossible to read and unless other villagers get soul reads or w/e they are likely just mislynch bait. Wolves are actually trying to seem townie when they post so it is harder to find them versus someone who avoids giving opinions on everyone entirely, whether because they are lazy/didn't read lol/too busy or scum who can't fake it.

    S4:
    Games that only voted Top 6 Posters: G2, G5, G6, G8, G9, WC1
Games that did not vote their Top Poster in the Top 3: G3, G4, G7, G9, G11, WC2

    S3:
    These games only sent from the top 6 posters: G2, G4, G6, G7, G8
These games sent from the bottom half: G1, WC

oooh i will. Any games coming up I should be looking to join? @Yeti
for anyone interested in coming this way, we have a game currently running that just hit night 3. we usually run one game at a time so another will start once it ends.

we also have OC (outside contact) which is very power role-heavy and involves negotiation/clearing via info roles (and crafty roles to fool info roles). not sure when one of those will next be starting but if there's notable interest i can make a game.

think it's just a matter of time for account activation or approval to let you post, the Circus Maximus subforum certainly has no specific permissions needed.

I think the suggestion of having more non-male mods is to maybe keep different perspectives on staff. It doesn't mean you should only select for that. It means that there's a problem here.
this is a +1 and to add on:

if you're a young woman/girl and someone is creeping on you, you will likely feel more comfortable approaching a female mod about the issue. not always, but as a teenager it can be easier to approach another woman.

now i have 0 doubts if someone came to lissa with an issue she would handle it BUT her mod status is like asterisk city, so if you are looking for someone to report to, and not very familiar with the site, you might be like, well, if lissa is the mod for flaking, can i go to her about this?

just something to consider when looking at the mod team is how many female voices do you have to provide that perspective, and how many do you have who are easily accessible if someone feels uncomfortable or is being targeted/creeped on? you shouldn't mod someone just for being a woman but it's important to make sure you have some on the mod team.

think of how daunting it would be to approach a mod about harassment from a different mod. even if that mod would be 100% receptive to the issue, if you think they are best bros, a young sprout would be very worried about not being heard. so i agree with dya that having mods who aren't just nominated for being tight with current staffers can help - not to say those aren't quality mods, but finding staff who aren't so familiar could be helpful.

and if u think this isn't a problem in general, check yourself. i've seen forums protect pedo mods/users and creepers because they are tight with other mods or the site owner. not saying that would happen here, but consider the experiences women may have on the internet on a forum where that does happen, and being concerned if they report a mod's friend their issue will be minimized. if you didn't think something like this would be A Thing where a staffer sends $#@! pics unsolicited and is allowed to remain on staff for YEARS (repeat offending), u aren't a bad person but it goes to show why other perspectives are important to keep a community safe and approachable. again, not saying that has or will happen here, but if someone has experienced it before, it can be very hard to navigate.

no real question thank u for coming to my ted talk

Lol Mercedes honey it doesn't matter how big it actually is, if it shows up in my dms unwanted I'm gonna call it tiny just to piss the clown off

Marko I think we can both agree if you are legitimately sending unwanted attention you need to gtfo, if it was consensual at the time I would think you can appeal the ban to a mod by showing them the fuller extent of the conversations even though it may be sharing a lot of your own business. There are also some guys who will think they have something with a girl and she does not hold that same belief, so you are right that there are gray areas for the mods to navigate. If you are guilty of harassing someone you need to go, though.

But MU bans should (logically?) probably relate to MU. MU private message harassment? Sure, ban. Discord PMs? A bit out of jurisdiction, no? Where do you draw the line?

You can block someone on Discord, correct? If there's a discord PM issue, that's up to an individual to remediate however they see fit. Does banning them from MU even accomplish that? No. It seems very clear that MU's stance is "we are reserving the right to ban someone we deem as morally/ethically unfit to be a member of our site based on our subjective moral rubric as scored via outside evidence presented by a third party."

So if that's it..just say it. Why not at least give that generality?
this thread seems volatile af so imma just step in briefly

if the MU server is the only server that "jimmy" and i share together then MU's discord becomes his only access point to me.

if jimmy starts posting $#@! pics and SEND NUDES up in my dms and i say bruh get those 2 inches out of my face and he doesn't go away, then MU's discord (which is an extension of the forum) is the vehicle he's using to find and target me.

if someone did that irl at a club or sport group (meeting their victims via that event even if they use text/facebook to creep) they would be kicked out. if they behave in public but use that social structure to prey on people they need to be removed from said structure.

and yes i could just put jimmy on ignore, doesn't change the fact he is using MU's discord to target people and will probably go harass someone else if i block him.

now idk if anyone has been doing something like that BUT if they had been (and the only 'scene of the crime' is discord PMs) ban them, get them outta here if they are using MU's discord server to find people to sexually harass.

some1 about to try and come @ me BUT U ARENT A MODEL CITIZEN yeah well the floor is lava and this thread = the floor so ✌️

also 113 is right about 1 thing u aint paying taxes to be on MU, nobody has like, the right to be unbanned and on the forum. but people speaking out about problematic behaviors/bans also shouldn't be silenced.

also also sexual harassment can come from any gender, aimed at any gender, but if you are a male user who says discord PMs shouldn't be moderated and you've never gotten unsolicited and unwanted nudes/overtures from someone you share a server/chat with, mmmm, check yourself.

hello i am back back back again with the "ARE LOSING VILLAGES TOO SALTY" sheet, tracking seasons 3, 4 and now 5.

the answer this year is, yes, g5 was way too salty, but since wolves won most of the games, it kinda equals out. and winning towns are probably kinder to the last wolf standing - results may vary.

if you rand town, die n2 and lose the game, you will make finals. do not die on an odd night.

congrats to empoof and ds for actually being the scum spec chat knew u were for 3000 long years and not your worst town performances of all time

gg scum your powerwolfing defense of each other left no room for town to do anything but keep mislynching lhf over and over. it was a really impressive display of powerwolfing with all 3 of them blatantly protecting each other and getting away with it, in comparison to season 4 where they were more willing to bus to send 1 of them to lylo.

that said what kind of .. . im gonna get infracted for what i want to put here lmao ive deleted like 6 different words . .. villagers don't no lynch at mylo and listen to people going "yeah let's follow the JOAT's lead!"

    DUMB STRATEGY ALERT

man i wish yall actually knew how empoof plays and not just his rep as a good player bc when he was IC in a game he encouraged everyone sleeping at mylo, if we had a mylo, and was not this decisive. A+ execution on the chanting "I AM LOCKTOWN" for 0 explained reasons and getting away with it. there's no way this is his village play or strategy ever but he and his team did really well to form an impenetrable blockade against lynching him.

yall bullies to monkey tho the town who just sat there and let her be mislynched when she had nothing left to give after GH tried to really obviously failhammer UR MESSED UP #justiceforpara #justiceformonkey how do u let him get away with that?? or with empoof/ds saying those were her teammates trying to bus her

WHO HAS EVER IN THE HISTORY OF EVER TRIED TO MYLO-MISLYNCH-HAMMER BUS THEIR PARTNER?

ah well, gr8 play wolves congrats on the sweep my boys. this was definitely a deserved wolf win via very aggressive wolf play.

u just don't clear ppl for voting the flipped wolves. the mistake ppl make is taking bussers off the table or PoE simply for having voted a flipped wolf and neglecting every other facet of their gameplay. well-distanced wolves make it really hard to tell if it was bussing or not which is like, what good wolves should be doing.

ampharos: this villager who just voted a wolf, had it crossed, and the game didn't end thinks that the game will continue if monkey is voted.

    CLEARLY A PERSPECTIVE SLIP

doesn't even make sense what are u doin boo

bussing: still a free win in champs a year later. bus ur teammates and villagers who should know better will hard clear you.

i can't believe the villagers let dark sit there posturing to bus monkey and NEVER ACTUALLY VOTING MONKEY, dark tossed out word salad posts all day and y'all just skimmed right past them and let dark push on monkey and then rather than vote monkey himself or vote monkey once fuggles does, which is what dark should be doing if he is a villager with his reads as they are, y'all consider it's like, w/w wagons.

good distancing by the wolves all game, good planning your busses.

hard fought game by all fun to watch, GL to whoever moves on
