I really enjoy this whole package - the genre in general is a hit for me. With the accent and the general level of hype it's just awesome for the setting. Can't say I find something remarkable or extraordinary in the song that makes it stand out in full, but it's definitely great.

This song is sexy as $#@!, starting from the intro and the way the first vers starts off is really promising, but the Mojooooo annoys me a little bit too much for this to be the greatest. The rest is cool, verses and all. Definitely fits the settings described, without a doubt... also french automatically makes me drool so that's almost a secret cheat. Bit of a plus with the cool video tbh. Repeated listens makes me dig it even more, and mind the ?'y chorus a bit less.

    SAINT MOTEL - My Type

So this is Saint Motel song nr 2 in this cat, and I enjoy this one a lot more than the other one mainly because of the chorus here being way better imo. Liking the fluctuation in hype levels and buildup to the chorus - and at the same time the hype is a chill hype which fits well at the pre-party. Cool stuff.

Okay it's Celeste stuff and I'm a massive (video game) NEEEEERD but daamn I did not expect this to be this good! It is kind of identical to the type of stuff SMK (one of my sample song bands) has, and it's a recurring favourite for these kinds of get-togethers, so I really like this, both for the cat and as a tune. Only thing I didn't love was the sounds in the second half setting off at around 2:30, I would've loved for it to take bit of a different direction, but still, it's definitely a :PixelPepe: dididiidididiiduuuuu

    « Cat 3 reveal »
Fast forward a bit into the first year. Long-distance relationships apparently weren’t Dobby’s thing, and he was left heartbroken and BERRRY sad. Add homesickness, failing the first big exam and a sick family-member to that, and it might not be hard to realize the strains this put on this completely untested youngling. The main way to handle all these new feelings of anxiety and the beginning depression was to sit down, play the guitar and sing and often also write some as well. Songs where he could play and belt his heart out.

[Not necessarily acoustic, but should fit the above description.]

Blind Pilot - 3 Rounds and a Sound
    Sleeping At Last - Mercury
    Damien Rice - Delicate

Backbone (Acoustic) - There For Tomorrow

I don't really get this sub It's an acoustic version of a song, but other than that it just doesn't fit what I was looking for in many ways. My biggest issue is honestly the lyrics, usually it can be bad or non-fitting and I just don't care, but in this case it just ruins it for me, or it could've worked out a bit better for the category, maybe.

I've been a fan of Ella's voice ever since she was in X Factor, a lot of the stuff she's come up with has been great - and this song is pleasant, but most of her other material just works better for me - something about the production and the whole package here makes me not feel it at all.

Many of the subs for this cat really have singers with amazing voices. This one is one of them, it's really pleasant to listen to. I even looked up the artist, and FJM, and will revisit that when I'm not in new-artist-overload-mode. The verses in this song are great, but I am a bit underwhelmed by the chorus - can't help but feel it could've been so much more, or different, and it kind of just kills it for me and sligthly annoys me because this song could've been legit IT :/

    Julien Baker - Good News

So this was the first song in this cat I listened to, and damn it sure put me in the mood to try singing it myself. After having looked up the lyrics however I'm struggling a bit with enjoying it as much, I really don't enjoy the approach to the theme, without going into too much detail about it - and it leaves me with an unpleasant feeling afterwards instead of using it as therapy or to feel better. Completely disregarding the lyrics it's a really good one though.

    Zack
Sufjan Stevens - To Be Alone With You

I've listened a fair bit to this artist, and this song hasn't stuck, and I think that's for a reason. It's a bit too anonymous, and not enough in it stands out for me to really connect to it. It kind of drowns in the rest of the songs here, so I've tried listening to it in isolation but still left with kind of the same feeling - just doesn't do enough for me.

Simon & Garfunkel - American Tune (from The Concert in Central Park)

Okay at this point I'm sure I'm being at least semi-trolled cuz third S&G sub from the same concert but I guess I'll judge it seriously. These lyrics are actually awesome. I only knew a few of their songs well from before, this wasn't one of them. The lyrics and the storytelling in this one is amazing and is in the top for this cat, but downside for me is it isn't exciting otherwise - melody isn't really memorable enough - and as such is not a song I'd go back and listen to repeatedly.

Sufjan Stevens - The Only Thing

Sufjan Stevens is one of my go-tos when I'm in the mood for that type of music, which happens every now and then. This is the second song of his for this cat I get subbed, and this one is a song I know from before as opposed to the other one. For this cat I like this song a lot more than the other one, but still it doesn't happen enough in it for me to feel like it's that amazing tune I was looking for.

    Who Are You? - AJJ

One of the ones I had a hard time deciding on for this cat. It's an interesting style and theme to sub for this. It is acoustic and all, and the lyrics can kind of work but I've got a hard time feeling them, and like genre-wise as well it's not exactly something that hits home for me, although I tend to like indie-like stuff with non-perfect singing etc, but this hohohohoo stuff is off-putting.... The rest is pretty charming I think? Not bad in any way tbh.

This is kind of far from what I usually listen to, but after having listened to it a few times it really grows on me, and I love the feeling it leaves me with afterwards. Still probably not the best song to play myself and "belt out" but it's a powerful one in it's own way.

Grading this cat was hard, since many of the songs are good and fit the general theme. This song has got that little extra. It captures part of the mood I tried to convey - It's a song with lyrics I could sing, and really feel, but not too moody. To add to it, I was hooked from the first listen, his voice, the general feeling in the song. Getting a 90's sitcom feel for some reason and it's just super nice.

This is a cool approach to the cat - if I go back to thinking of how this would sound if I played my version of it I'd probably be feeling it a LOT! Even more than what listening to it makes me feel. First listen didn't do much for me, and it kind of disappearead among the other songs - but I've gone back to it, and I'm definitely appreciating it, it's in my car playlist. I'm feeling it, definitely.

This man has got one of the better voices out there. I've actually listened to the soundtrack for Into The Wild, but never returned to any of the songs. The lyrics in this one balances on the line of corny and just awesome, and I had some doubts the first listen, but it just keeps growing on me, and at this point, I can't help it but it gives me the chills and feels and I just have to submit to it's power tbh, I'm floored. Thank you for subbing this.

This is probably the song I listened to the most times before I could decide properly on it, and after that probably the one I've listened to the most because I'm slightly addicted to it. The harmonies, the feels, the wows.. DAAAMN. It has really grown into a mighty tune, with the main strength being in the atmosphere it brings. For the theme but it's got most of the components I'm looking for - belting stuff out isn't necessary always. It's just awesome.

Holy $#@!. This made me excited at first not, and it just kept escalating.. With these types of songs I keep waiting for the part I don't like, but this one was just goosebump-tier all the way through, (barring the final notes in the song are cut in the youtube clip which slightly tilts me). It's perfect despite being dirty and whatever. It doesn't have to sound pleasant in every way, doesn't need to be perfect quality or whatever. It's the song that matters, the melody, the lyrics - I wanted songs that made me feel something, which could be intensified in singing it myself, and let me tell you - this one did. This song caught the point with this cat perfectly. DAMN It made me excited!

I actually had another song picked out for this cat, but I thought hey he wants acoustic specifically.

I prefer the original to the acoustic of this song tbf.

But here's the other song I considered, but didn't submit:

Okay it's Celeste stuff and I'm a massive (video game) NEEEEERD but daamn I did not expect this to be this good! It is kind of identical to the type of stuff SMK (one of my sample song bands) has, and it's a recurring favourite for these kinds of get-togethers, so I really like this, both for the cat and as a tune. Only thing I didn't love was the sounds in the second half setting off at around 2:30, I would've loved for it to take bit of a different direction, but still, it's definitely a :PixelPepe: dididiidididiiduuuuu

Pretty even at the top, but kind of a very wide range of scores still. I guess it evens out and you deserve it if you're consistently top 5.
