Start Date: 10/12, 10am EST SOD/EOD: 10am/10pm EST Phase Lengths: 36/12 Mechanics: No majority, dueling mechanic (explained below) Night Chat: For mafia only Out of Thread Communication: only allowed if specified in Role PM Posting Requirement: At least 10 game-related post per day phase. At 24 hours without meeting this requirement you will be prodded, and you will be subbed out after a full phase of not meeting this requirement.
Discord is preferred but not mandatory.
At any time during the day if a duel has not already started or taken place, a player may choose to initiate a duel with another player in the game by declaring Duel: playername. When a duel is started between two players, their voting ability is removed, and the remaining players can only vote between the duelists. When a majority of the non-duelists have voted for a player, that player is killed and the day continues as normal, with all players voting for a yeet.
Instead of 9 players, this game is being run with 19. The mafia will be referred to as Outlaws. There will be 15 townsfolk and 4 outlaws. If you have any questions about the setup, please ask!
Note: Flavoured role cards will be sent out in the next two hours or so. You are allowed to claim your flavour name, but I rather strongly discourage anyone from making arguments based on flavour because there is no relationship between characters and alignments.
The Town of Redbend
Redbend town. A small settlement in the middle of nowhere, where nothing bad ever happens, apart from the occasional casino fights. The sheriff had almost been decommissioned, for there was no need to keep the peace.
But the peace wouldn’t last long. Word has reached town with the latest locomotive that a band of outlaws was rampaging through the country, taking out respectable members of the community in duels, and stealin cows and women. Worst of all, they were heading for Redbend next.
In preparation, the sheriff gathered 15 of his best men. Duelling or not, stealing or not, they would stop the misfits, and return peace to Redbend.
I doubt you would win any duel you started right now.
It’s better for me to start a duel I actually believe in instead of wait for people to give me their false and misinformed reads and then start a duel I only half-heartedly believe in.
Let's talk this through. Foxfalls, we have 7 misyeets if we utilize all our duels correctly. Dueling a personal fos gives us a 50% chance of a misyeet, and a 50% chance of wasting it on town automatically (if you're town)
If we nominate a duel ourselves in an orderly manner we have a 100% chance of a misyeet. We double the effectiveness of the duel for town.

But if you're town, why would you want to put yourself in a duel when you can just get two people you don't trust to fight it out to the death for our amusement
What can I say, honorable seppuku is honorable if you really want to waste a community resource like that.
We have different takes as to what the duel should be used for and that’s fair, but my interpretation does not make me “wrong” and it certainly does not make me wolf.
Discussion and community input is for the lynches. Dueling is for strong cases and reads that people can confidently say they believe in.

makes sense, but her chance to own someone > logic, so i doubt it'll convince her
i would say that fox should keep in mind that this thread seems very willing to vote someone out that hip-starts a duel, so if she has a genuine scumread, she should convince ppl first

@foxfalls you should only go lonestar mode if you're very sure you're a universal townread and won't lose the duel. Otherwise you're just diluting the value of the duel.

I don’t intend on starting a duel anytime soon. I am not against nominating people in an orderly way when it comes to dueling. I am only saying how I personally intend to use my duel.
The problem with your idea is that there's a cap of one duel per day that the whole town has to share. The only mechanical difference between a duel and a lynch is that there's a maximum of two wagons and selfvoting is impossible.

Yes, but say for example the town chooses me and someone else to duel and I do not believe that person to be wolf. I probably will just ignore that and duel whoever I want tbh.

i think you should just place nice if you're town ;( i get the temptation, but it's basically collective town duels
There is a chance I may not even use my duel. It really depends on how hard I wolf read someone. If I can’t confidently say someone is wolf or there isn’t a good reason for me to use my duel, I won’t.
