Hi. It's me again.
I've been trying to muster up the energy to host another walrus over the course of the last year, and I've finally decided I'm ready to go. This should be pretty simple, and you all know the drill. I have 5 categories and a bonus which won't be counted for points, but I wanted to include it.
My tastes are outlined below, and I've linked/compiled a few images of my most listened to artists/albums/songs to give you an overview of my TyPiCaL rOtAtIoN.
Last Few Years of Walrus Responses - let me know if that link doesn't work for whatever reason.
This thread has some idea of my taste, stuff I like, stuff I don't like, etc. Pretty good resource! https://www.mafiauniverse.com/forums...=1#post1655383
I've copied my little blurb to make it more convenient, but you can look at the example songs I have over there.
Pretty usual flops with me include most country (though I am known to love a good Brad Paisley song), most hip-hop harder than like Chance/Childish (exception: Run the Jewels). Most alternative metal/post-grunge stuff (Breaking Benjamin, Three Days Grace) will almost instantly tank – sorry Xicor.
Honestly I’m into a lot more than I’m willing to write right now. I think my examples show a lot of the indie side, but feel free to surprise me.
donut submit because I've probably heard their whole discography: The Shins, Muse, Saint Motel, Arctic Monkeys, Catfish and the Bottlemen, The Killers, Chance the Rapper, Sufjan Stevens, The Killers, CHVRCHES, Radiohead, Death Cab for Cutie, Bleachers, Vampire Weekend, The National, The Fratellis, Two Door Cinema Club, The Strokes, Royal Blood, Japandroids etc.
The categories are as follows!
Category 1: Movie Montage Music
This category is for the songs you're listening to and then think, "damn, this would be really good in a movie!" This could be a sad song playing in the background of a sad car ride, an upbeat track that goes along with a coming of age turning point, that song from the scene in Matilda when all the books were flying around - the opportunities are endless. In the form, I added a little blurb thing if you wanna set the stage a bit, definitely not required but imo it can only help with the ~immersion~ while I'm reviewing!
Category 2: Songs from the Grave
Submit a song from your favorite deceased band/artist. One of the coolest things about music is that it's essentially timeless. People live on through their music, and I think that's beautiful. They won't be playing live anymore, which sucks for a huge concert-head like me, but in this economy I'm not sure that's coming back for a long time anyway.
Category 3: Karaoke Song
I know this cat is pretty over-done, but one thing that's giving me solace in this never-ending quarantine is singing in the shower/blasting music and having a one woman karaoke sesh in my house. It's liberating. Submit your favorite song to sing at the top of your lungs. If you were black-out drunk on a cruise what's the first song you'd pick from the karaoke binder?
Category 4: Thnks fr th Mmrs
Give me a song that reminds you of high school. You're walking into your high school after blasting Red Jumpsuit Apparatus on the bus ride there. You're walking through the halls listening to Blink-182 and thinking "nobody in this place understands me," trying to be as edgy as possible. Send me something that reminds you of the highest of highs or the lowest of lows in the absolute hell that is the High School Experience.
Category 5: Rinse and Repeat
We all (hopefully) use a software that tells us who our most listened to artists/albums/bands/etc over any course of time. I'll link a few below for y'all to use as resources to figure this one out. I want a song from your most listened to artist - your favorite track off of an album you can't ever get enough of. Hopefully this one should be a little easier than most, given I'm essentially asking you to submit your favorite song! This one can deviate from my tastes as much as you want it to, I'll try my best to be fair!
- The National - Oblivions
- Taylor Swift - The Last Great American Dynasty
- Phoebe Bridgers - Moon Song
BONUS: A B-side that should have been on an album
This is one that if you don't already know a few off of the top of your heads, you probably won't be able to submit something. I wanted to put this in the regular walrus but given that it's a pretty limited spread of songs, I didn't think it was the best idea. I'll probably scores these but I won't include them in the overall walrus scores. Shrug!
- The National - All Dolled Up in Straps
- Arctic Monkeys - Despair in the Departure Lounge
- Vampire Weekend - Ottoman
Please use this form to submit your answers - I have a great system setup where it makes all submissions anonymous so I can do my best to judge fairly. Thanks
Submissions will probably be open until mid-December. I don't really wanna put a dealine on it but I'm gonna say something like December 20th.
I don't think I forgot anything... Weeee!
