    RULES/GUIDELINES

    1. Everyone who has played at least one game on Mafia Universe is eligible to nominate or second a nomination in this thread. Do this by bolding your nomination and the relevant category. Once a nomination has been seconded, it will pass as an official preliminary nomination.
    2. You may not nominate or second a nomination for yourself, though you are allowed to campaign for yourself if you wish.
When making an original nomination for a category, you must include a short description explaining the nomination. No need to write a full essay, but think of it in terms of describing the nomination to someone not familiar with the game in question. You must also provide a link to context if making a nomination for funniest/most memorable moment. This is still mandatory
    3. The deadline for preliminary nominations is December 31, 2021. More details at that time for how we'll proceed with final nominations/voting/ceremony.
    4. Any feedback about this thread should use the 2021 feedback thread, or be brought directly to the 2021 Awards account.
    5. New this year: there is a mandatory waiting period of 24 hours between a game ending and that game being used for nominations. Obviously, this means no nomination or discussion of ongoing games.
    6. Users banned during the time of voting for a period greater than three months for poor conduct are ineligible for awards.
    7. The following overall body-of-work awards are not eligible for nominations until July 1st, 2021:
      Best Mechanical/Strategic Player
      Best Replacement Player
      Best Turbo Player
      Best Rookie Player
      Most Improved Player
      Most Dedicated Player
      Most Enjoyable Player
      Best Team Player
      Best Town Player
      Best Scum Player
      Best All-Around Player
      Best Host
      Best Flavor Writer
      Best $%#!poster
      Community MVP

    Changes for 2021:
    1. As noted above, there is now a one week waiting period between a game ending and its eligibility for awards nominations.
    2. All 3rd party awards have been combined into existing scum awards, due to general lack of 3rd party roles/factions on Mafia Universe. Should this prove an unfair assessment in the coming year, these may be re-separated.
    3. The Best Flavor Writer award has been clarified as an overall body-of-work award.
    4. The Best Flavor award has been created to recognize the individual game with the best flavor.
    5. The Most Dedicated/Enthusiastic Player award has been renamed to the Most Dedicated Player award.
    6. The Most Entertaining/Enjoyable Player award has been renamed to the Most Enjoyable Player award.
    7. The Best $%#!poster award has been added to recognize the funniest/most entertaining player.
    8. The Strongest GIF Game award has been removed.
    9. The Best Meme award has been created to recognize charts, copypastas, and other goofs that don't quite fit into Funniest/Most Memorable Moment but are still worthy of recognition.

The 2021 Awards are being managed by @Ampharos, with assistance from @Hally and @Arapocalypse.

    Reminder:
All nominations must have a description in order to be added. If you wish to second a nomination that does not currently have a description, you may add a description yourself.

Player who did exceedingly well in a specific game as town. Include the game with your nomination.

    dunya for Congress of Vienna
    Nominated by: Apoc
    Seconded by: Hally
    It is Day 2.

    There are 19 players alive.

    5 wolves. 1 lost wolf. 1 3P.

    ITAs are happening.

And this is Dunya's shot list. 6/8 anti-town. This means her town list is 10/11 (1 lost wolf).

All 5 pack wolves are on this list...oh and one of them is currently being mistakenly peeked villager...but its role madness...so she adds them anyway!

    Master Radishes (the "green check")
staypositivefriend (something just not vibing completely with me)
Timsup2nothin (something exaggerated about how he handled hally imo)
    Easy nom

    Alison for Congress of Vienna
    Nominated by: vanity.
    Seconded by: Hally
alison was one of the main driving forces of killing wolves in the game. not only did she help kill three wolves early on, she completely slayed in the endgame where she correctly cased the remaining wolves for mostly correct reasons and just did not let up on them at all. just an absolutely brilliant game from her and a great display of powervillaging at its finest.

Macdougall (as Scyther) for Clue(do) Mafia
    Nominated by: Guillotina
    Seconded by: Hally
He correctly identified three out of four mafia players on Day 1 and despite him being night killed early, his reads served as an important tool for town to brutally stomp the mafia party.

    DoctorZeus for Deck Mafia #004
    Nominated by: Guillotina
    Seconded by: staypositivefriend
Let's begin with the fact that his player is a newbie, he has been playing mafia for just 8 months.

DoctorZeus was perceived and selected as Day 1's mischop by scum originally but he quickly proved scum that he was not going to be it and also proved town that he was not going to be read as LHF through a massive display of WIM and willingness to solve. DoctorZeus ended the game as the second highest poster even though he was killed four nights earlier!

But DoctorZeus is not getting nominated because he volume cleared himself, it was the fact that he pushed wolves all game. He correctly cased and help pushing The Keeper to their elimination on Day 1, on Day 4 his POE had all three remaining wolves in it. Not only that he cased townies and demonstrated why they were town correctly.

DoctorZeus came from being PoE/Mischop to becoming a town leader and a player scum needed to night kill at all costs, very much deserving this nomination.

Note: There were others that also came close as him, but DoctorZeus on top of everything approached game solving in a non-toxic way and kept the energy up, while the others slank for a big portion of the game or were really toxic with other players making it unfun to play the game.

Lag for Deck Mafia #006: Rise of the 3Ps
    Nominated by: DoctorZeus
    Seconded by: Kirby
Lag absolutely owned the mafia this game through a combined use of:
    - mechanical nouse
    - investigatory prowess
    - town captaincy & thread management

    Day 1
Early on in the day, Lag caught Venti (wolf 1/4) who's special power derived from claiming open wolf x3 times. Somehow, Lag had realised this was a special power through encyclopedic knowledge of deck mafia lore (where some powers are publicly published in a separate discord channel), and, an unbelievable attention to detail leading to Lag noticing Venti's x3 wolf claiming. Once Lag got town behind this, we lunched wolf 1 of 4 on d1.

    Day 2
Lag kicked off the day by used their own actions, and the actions used against them, to coordinate the thread in to revealing lots of information which eventually led to the outing of Triple Haven (wolf 2/4) midway through the day. This led Alison (wolf 3/4)to shooting their own wolf buddy leaving her and Kurosaki Ichago as the remaining wolves. Kuro got outted soon after, and shot by Sett meaning that before the d2 elim village only had a SOLE WOLF to kill (and two cultist 3rd parties....)

Town were able to use all this mech to lunch Phraze (3rd party leader), meaning we were left with 2 meanies moving in to d3, and, were on for a perfect game.

    Day 3
Entering Day 3, through exceptional coordination of night actions, and, thread management, Lag was able to determine Happy was the final cult member, and, identified which villagers were now lock clear leaving us with a very manageable POE

    Day 4 and beyond
Lag used various mechanical calculations and plan wortkhroughs to create this beautiful masterpiece of a plan which guaranteed town victory.

From there it was (slow) but painful sailing to the easiest town victory I've been a part of.

3 cheers for Lag, and the greatest village performance I've seen

    c4e5g3d5 for Poisoner 21'er
    Nominated by: ladd
    Seconded by: Guillotina
He crushed it, super super on point reads. perfect village core d1, almost exclusively pushed wolves all game and more importantly he was instrumental d1 on building the PoE that produced 5/6 wolves lunches in the next days. All while being an obvious villager. He also incredibly managed to do all this while supporting a suboptimal chess opening

Wisdom for Season 8, Finale! Secure Championship Procedure [The Mafia Championship]
    Nominated by: JohnCarter
    Seconded by: ladd
Been meaning to do this one for a while but the one day until lylo where a wolf was lunched was when they were alive. I combed through their iso about 20 times to look for nuggets of knowledge because of their balanced and swag takes. Very cool!

neopest for Reflections From The Mountaintop
    Nominated by: Wiml
    Seconded by: alexa
She was almost immediately on the back foot upon entering the thread, being heavily scumread for rather dubious reasons in an extrememly stacked and intimidating lobby. In spite of that, she not only posted herself out of the hole she ended up in to the degree that the wolf team no longer considered her a viable miselim by the time the game ended but she picked up the slack of a town that had gotten a bit too complacent and acted as an extremely solid village leader and guiding force against a wolf team of very strong players coming into the mid-late game, culminating in a town victory.

    JohnCarter for Jack Town
    Nominated by: ladd
    Seconded by: Wisdom
he had greats reads, got poisoned n1 and used his d2 to case the deepest wolf (who then went on to win the game).

Insaner for Anon Themed Mountainous 15er
    Nominated by: alexa
    Seconded by: Quick
he both towncleared himself and correctly had a 2/2 (one of which was a correct read on a wolf who was kinda deep at the time) while the rest of town was all over the place, and we had no choice but to kill him to stand a chance at winning

Player who did exceedingly well in a specific game as town. Include the game with your nomination.

    fanmail for Throne Mash II
    Nominated by: Viggorous
    Seconded by: Inawordyes
Village may have lost this game, but without fanmail it would have been a stomp instead of fairly close.

He had great reads, he managed to clear himself by posting well and while also slaying wolves en masse.

He was a beast in ITAs, killing two wolves and missing the third shot which was on wolf KP.

Late game he was given a day vig through a wish granter, he used this to shoot (and thus out) a deep wolf who wasn't in anybody's immediate PoE.

He simply played amazingly well, and it's undoubtedly one of the best (if not the best) performances I have seen from anyone in a long while.

Sunbae (as Haru Okumura) for Fourth Annual B4ST4RD Mash - Isekai
    Nominated by: SilverKeith
    Seconded by: Mantichora
In the 5 years I've been on this site I've never made a nomination but Haru killed it so much in this game that she deserves to be nominated at exactly 24 hours and a minute after the game ended.

Haru started the game pretty under the radar, albeit with some decent reads. By the end of D3 tho, she had a hand in the fall of both OwO and Vanity, two of our best players on the wolfteam, by virtue of pushing OwO to death, and being the person to start a shot train at Vanity at ITAs.

Come N3, we thought about killing Haru, but ultimately decided not to, because people would look for wolf KP, and Haru might fit that spot, so we decided to kill people who were either mechclear or had good roles. Big mistake.

Start of D4, wolves are close to sealing the deal, at 4-11, with the catch that we had 3 ppl on the wolfteam who could use KP. ITAs are about to start, and Haru was receiving so much heat that it was agreed she had to make the first shot. And she made the shot that would win town the game. Not only she shot Allund, the wolf dayvig who was somewhat going under people's radar, but immediately after that, she encouraged people to shot me, the other direct wolf KP, when I was considered by most people a very likely villager, and slammed down a bunch of extremely solid arguments on why I was scum.

But there's still more. Inmediatly after she shot the wolf dayvig, we used an ability from a dead mafia that we (both the wolves and townies who read the role) thought would convert a townie into a wolf after a period of time. So, instead of shutting up and being quietly converted to the wolfteam for an easy win, she posts this:

    Dear Lissa,

We have a problem. In the gacha Triple Haven rolled a 99. Shortly after I received a gift that activated. Based on the reveal of Triple Haven I am almost positive that it is from Triple Haven's role. I have unlocked new abilities and have become a Magical Girl. Triple Haven's role reveal says that players who accept your invitation will succumb to despair eventually and be transformed into a witch. I take this to mean that I will be converted to the mafia faction at an undisclosed time in the future.

Based on math my role is often a 45% day vigilante. I am currently town and am supposed to try and help town win. If I converted to a mafia 45% day vigilante I believe the mafia are going to win. I am impossible to suspect at this time and will get to kill any town I want tomorrow to lock up the game if I convert. I could sit here and be quiet and take my near certain victory in that way but I have poured my soul into the town this game and want to win as town. Not get some cheap asterisk win by converting at the end game.

I think the correct play is for you to kill me. You. A peeked, clear town that cannot get suspicion put on them for the shot. That way poe town and mafia have to shoot into themselves. I say this with full knowledge that it will undo any positive actions I've done this game if I am incorrect. I say this knowing that if I ever play here again I'll be met with copy pastas of this until I put out a halfhearted laugh and pretend to take it on the chin. Flooded messages of game throwing will occur but it is my desire that others factor in the amount of thought I've given this since it happened hours ago. So far this game I've ignored what people would say if I were wrong and followed my magical girl heart and it's lead to correct shots on OwO, Vanity and Allund. None of them were under heavy suspicion when I fired. I must go out believing in myself in the same way.

If this ends the game I know we were so outnumbered that it wouldn't have mattered. If the game is close then losing me is salvageable yet being converted is a disaster. If the game is heavily in our favor then it does not matter and I trust in the town to finish strong.

I think Scumpaltine should boost you and you should shoot me. I will flip town with some convoluted math resulting in a 45% kill every day phase. I still think it's correct.

I hope you remember Haru in death as she lived. Recklessly firing from the hip and yoloing her way to a potential grave.

    Yours truly,
    Haru Okumura
    Phantom Thief

PS: let me fire one last shot before I go
If sacrificing yourself for the sake of the village isn't the most villagery thing ever then I don't know what it is. But Haru's tale doesn't even end there. Village decided to rely on a role that had a chance of preventing the possible conversion, so they decided to go for that so that Haru doesn't have to out. The days pass and the game gets in a pretty weird mechanical situation that it's a bit hard to explain, but every alive player is either mech cleared or peeked... including the last wolf, a godfather. The only player who makes sense as the last wolf at the village's eye, is Haru trough being converted. And while Haru wasn't converted, mechanically the correct play was to yeet her.

And yes, Haru was yeeted, so this might possibly be the only nomination for this category towards a townie who was eliminated. But Haru didn't go down easily, because she spent every moment from that phase solving the game, in a votecount that shows just how much $%#!ing WIM she poured into the game.

    Hornet for Homestuck Mash
    Nominated by: Bunnelby
    Seconded by: PunchyTheCat
He claimed his role as Village Neighborizer on Day One and proceeded to make a neighborhood that was completely villagers as well as have a perfect ITA record and a 50% vote accuracy. His neighborhood led to the game being won by the village even when it got tight.

Kurosaki Ichigo for Everyone's JOATed: The Guillo & Dawoodle's Cut
    Nominated by: Guillotina
    Seconded by: Insaner
The player was the main contributor in finding, casing and leading town to eliminate the last three scum, always keeping a logical and cold head against a very experienced and skillful scum team, who tried everything to discredit Kurososaki Ichigo to no avail, including bit not limited to a fake town reveal.

alexa for Mafia Universe Anniversary 2021
    Nominated by: GeneralHankerchief
    Seconded by: Hally
I'm going to use the same nomination paragraph for each, which is appropriate since alexa's and TSP's fates were pretty heavily linked in this game anyway. I believe this was both of their first mashes ever, and boy, did they jump into the deep end, displaying incredible WIM and co-leading the village throughout Anni, which is double to triple the size of your normal mash. They underwent the full mash experience: watching as the people they trusted died around them, trying to corral the village and keep the shots lists accurate, placing in events, and weathering the emotional ups and downs that endgaming in a mash like this provides. Notably, both continued to co-lead the village in the later stages of the game when mech solving became paramount, despite neither of them being mechanically clear for most of the game (TSP did late on, alexa never did). They trusted each other, they relied on each other, the passed off tree stump status to each other, they never wavered, and they dealt with all the bull$%#! while driving the town relentlessly onward to to their goal. It's only fitting that I should nominate them together, and it's going to be a bastard to judge them separately when I have to vote for one (but not the other) in six months.

    dyachei for Halloween Mash 2
    Nominated by: vanity.
    Seconded by: ladd
dya was basically one of the most important players for securing the village victory in this game. if you check their voting history, they basically almost entirely voted wolves from d2 onward, and also made a crucial ita shot on a wolf on the final day. they were just completely on point this game overall and were one of the most important village voices in the game, especially as someone who was close to mech clear.

    alexa for Mountain Climbing Mafia
    Nominated by: TripleHaven

will do a write up maybe someday

    Chloe for Congress of Vienna
    Nominated by: c4e5g3d5
    Seconded by: Hally
The great thing about 3ps is that you have a whole extra faction reading you. For this game, that meant Chloe had to fool a whole 6 extra players.

    Holy $%#!.

3p and WIM are two things you rarely see in the same sentence, let alone place. Chloe brought more WIM than most of the townies. It would've been an amazing game she played from any alignment, and that it came from a 3p with her partner caught D1 is mind-boggling.

    Ranmilia for Congress of Vienna
    Nominated by: Alison
    Seconded by: Hally
Ranmilia and Apogee showed immense fighting spirit and played optimally up until the very end, using every trick in the book to try to scrape out a win even when everyone else was mech confirmed. Ballsy plays like Ranmilia's scum claim and the two of them concocting an entirely fictitious 3P faction to make town fear and doubt their own conclusions are excellent mafia play and should be rewarded.

    Apogee for Congress of Vienna

    Sett for Grand Idea Mafia
    Nominated by: Guillotina
    Seconded by: Garden Gnome
He got a ROLE with a next-to impossible win condition as 3P and still managed to manipulate both town and mafia to obtain it, despite every town leader advocating to not help him and trying to make him lose. To add to its difficulty, Sett had claimed his alignment on Day 1 and on Day 2, THREATENED town to hold the game hostage.

    Chelsea for OPEN WORLD 1.2
    Nominated by: Guillotina
    Seconded by: YOLOSWAG
Imagine scum purposely and permanently role vanillalizing herself, to specialize in item usage only, a very expensive branch in the game.
To put everything in perspective, most roles where inexpensive and everyone could buy two per game and to top it all, roles were public knowledge for all.

Instead Chelsea bought a bundle with something she very well knew would perma-vanillalize her and that would only let her use items that were unknown to everyone. She took the risk and ripped the hidden rewards that those items gave her. Not only that, she was very strategic about the use of those items planning out actions with her teammates and ended up carrying a widely scum read teammate to the final day to win by parity to town, by manipulating town into considering alternative PoEs, a town that were on their tail all game.

It was game that truly tested her openwolf prowess and she didn't disappoint.

katze for DragonVale Mafia: Roar of the Rift
    Nominated by: Hally
    Seconded by: Hornet
on the heals of 2500 posting and winning as a wolf in a mash on their homesite FoL, katze put in another really impressive performance here. wolves got lunched D1/D2 and katze found themself in the PoE in midgame (along with their only living teammate), but they kept fighting against a town full of strong villagers and ended up winning easily in F3 after being super villagery and posting 1500 times. really impressive game!

Esooa (as tessepia) for Constant Vigilance
    Nominated by: illario
    Seconded by: YOLOSWAG

Askthepizzaguy (as King Bowser) for Multiball 19er
    Nominated by: Ezradekezra
    Seconded by: YOLOSWAG
Went from 2 Blue Mafia members missing D1 to Venti instavoting IAWY at f3 after Bowser replaced in.

    neopest for Constellations Team Mafia
    Nominated by: alexa
    Seconded by: nutella
she completely posted our slot/team 'clear' with the days she was in game - she was also super supportive/helpful to our team (me/illario/marry) in guiding us to a win, even writing some of illario's lines in LYLO and coaching me not to bus in a situation that probably led us to a victory. she'd also posted so well d2 that after getting heat d1, i didn't have to worry about it the next time i subbed in. just generally played amazingly.

    staypositivefriend for 16/8 10er
    Nominated by: JohnCarter
    Seconded by: Hally
In this game, SPF went, as the kids say, full ham. There was a super active and intense F4 that she won, though due to my incompetency, did unfortunately get shot by the vig. The WIM and projecting towniness was so good that she could drive a wedge between people with super deep meta on each other.

    Hally for Jack Town
    Nominated by: JohnCarter
    Seconded by: ladd
Despite being a wolf, they were bleeding villagery energy all game. Even when cased on d2, they lived to endgame and won the game, dunking on every villager.

Ephemeral for Baldur's Gate II Mish-Mash
    Nominated by: nutella
    Seconded by: Mistyx
Eph was immediately and consistently a strong presence in wolf chat, strategizing and coordinating night actions as well as keeping the team motivated. Facing an incredibly strong village team, the wolves were on the backfoot pretty much from the beginning and suffered a continuous series of soulcrushing blows -- and yet Eph, while disheartened, didn't show it. He stayed positive and motivated, doing everything in his power to maintain the townreads he was getting in the thread as one of the team's deepest members. He ended up as the last wolf alive in 12v1 with the odds enormously stacked against him and yet he was still solo-journaling wolfchat on the final night puzzling out the mechanics of what could have been a path to victory, however slim. Of course, he ultimately did not even survive that night and the town claimed the win, but his continued WIM in the face of adversity was unlike any I've seen before.

benneh (as WolfnodDotGif) for Baldur's Gate II Mish-Mash
    Nominated by: Jaleb
    Seconded by: Dawoodle
Benneh is a strong player of all alignments. Often killed by mafia early in the game, or fear killed by town if he makes it into late game. So he decided to make his role fun and town side as long as he could (as a last man standing type of role should do). He had a strong position in getting town credit that he was likely to out survive the mafia team to endgame by himself. Unfortunately he got mechanically confirmed not town, which ruined his chances of doing so. He had the deaths of Dyachei and 4Mask on his side for a strong path to win if he wasn't announced.

    4maskwolf for Throne Mash II
    Nominated by: vanity.
    Seconded by: Sunbae
4mask ended up being this deepest wolf in the game, becoming a consensus villager extremely quickly, and made strategic busses and pushes in order to close the game out in the end. he pocketed an insane amount of villagers and pushed his wincon to the end. this will definitely go down as one of the cleanest wolf games i'll see all year.

Apoc for The Legend of Zelda
    Nominated by: Shad
    Seconded by: Taylor Swift
This game was a grand example of why the concept of half-way ruling exists. Swapped into a massive kp slot n0, Apoc grinded out five days of thread control and PR management in a very complicated build to lead the village down the rabbit hole while only bussing the most expendable wolf roles just enough to keep himself above serious scrutiny. He ultimately endgamed accounting for the majority of our team's kills, having managed the bulk of our mech while 1000-posting.

Melehan for Mafia Universe Anniversary 2021
    Nominated by: Wiml

To start off, this was her first mash ever and I believe only her third game on MU full stop (her coming from a community with games that are usually a lot less active than this as well).

Despite all this, she managed to not only be the last pack wolf standing in the game (as well as one of the deepest wolves overall) and openwolfing so hard and so confidently at points that she got all but cleared for it until the game was so mechanically locked by clears that the game became effectively unwinnable for her. She also accomplished this with fairly minimal bussing, something that plagued the wolf team as a whole during the game.

Most memorably, she loudly suspected and pushed on Variance, the town (weak) hider who gained a new peek every day and who could not be killed by the wolves. Despite Variance being strongly spewed town from a ~65% accurate ITA shot fired from an outed wolf after claiming cop, the thread eventually tinfoiled him enough - partially because of Mel's tenacity - that there were serious consideration towards alignment peeking or even killing the player who had claimed to be a full cop.

When players in the game questioned her for openwolfing, Mel responded multiple times during the game by mentioning both myself and alexa (two of the highest posting players with playermeta on her), insisting she was in her town meta and telling whoever she was responding to that we would be able to back her up on that (which was true - so suddenly we were in the situation of defending Mel to other vocal townspeople).

In her first mash she gets shielded by half of the loudest players for openwolfing, is the last pack wolf standing, blows away all players with meta on her, accidentally exposes a cheater and is so good at dodging that she's got herself a new undertitle. So I think this is a pretty solid wolf performance all things considered.

    D3x for Folk Tale Mash
    Nominated by: Champ
    Seconded by: Ezradekezra
d3x played to his win condition and literally everyone was fooled by his claim after he had some heat on him in day 4. He fake claimed a green on his final wolf partner which let them win the mash overall. This is very impressive but to make it even more impressive it was his first game on Mafia Universe and in a mash no less. He was so convincing all of DVC and the game mods thought he was a villager!

was the counterwagon d1 but endgamed by just posting villagery for 4 days and was basically the key to winning the game. there is so many subtle things he did (he openly claimed his role itt and used it super super well, he was the main reason 0 wolves died in itas all game) and that you see only by being in wolfchat

Player who did exceedingly well at deployment of a power role randed to them in a single game. Examples of these potentially cover someone making multiple accurate shots as a vigilante, a great save as a doctor, etc.

    Luco for Throne Mash II
    Nominated by: Shad
    Seconded by: Inawordyes
Avoiding the easy out to clear slankers with the field's consent, Luco put a lot of thought into players with minimal content and managed to bag two wolves while correctly holstering his shot on two villagers.

    juliet for Congress of Vienna
    Nominated by: vanity.
    Seconded by: Hally
juliets had a x1 vanillize and also the ability to give the village an extra elimination of her choice every single day. while she did use the first 2 extra eliminations on 2 villagers, her actions for the rest of the game single-handedly won village the game. not only did she vanillize the wolf poisoner, which also blocked his action, but she also put the extra elimination onto another wolf, which resulted in her blundering her claim. of course, to matters better, she put the extra elimination onto the last wolf on the last day, sealing the game for village. just an outstanding use of her pr overall.

Variance for Mafia Universe Anniversary 2021
    Nominated by: alexa
    Seconded by: Chloe
He was a hider and managed to get 5 successful living (4/5 lived to end game) villager peeks on players who were POE'D in a game that had multiple kill-powers, and his use of the role greatly contributed to the game being near mechanically locked for town by the end!

    Seconded by: Garden Gnome
He randed a rather complicated and meme-ish role, one of those that could be really awesome if you play it right, or really $%#!ty if you dont know what you are doing.
The player played the long game by patiently marking two PoE players, if he died, their alignments would be outed. He orchestrated a plan to get killed close to mylo to clear or redcheck those two players. Both were town! It helped narrowing the PoE further and put the last wolf under scope who had deep wolf with a fake yet very convincing night action.

This player could have gone for the alternative and get killed to become a haunted night vigilante but instead he took one for the team and cleared two players close to end game, for this i nominate him.

    NANOOKTHECONQUEROR for Deck Mafia #005
    Nominated by: Guillotina
    Seconded by: alexa
For context, the mafia team had a 70% at winning if this action didn't happen as Town was in a path of self destruction, there was a Deep Wolf and Mafia was loaded with chaotic power thanks to one of their members having very powerful and bastard JOAT abilities.

There comes the night and Nanook had a Bus Driver card and he targeted a Mech Clear townie and the Deepwolf with the powerful card who carried out the factional kill, making the deep wolf kill himself and protecting the mech clear that the wolves needed to get rid of.

Also for context, Nanook is the kind of player that sheeps his townreads and up til that point he was sheeping Macdougall's read of the deepwolf that they were town, he stopped sheeping and judged correctly, turning the game upside town for mafia which led to total sweep of the wolves from that point forward.

Player who excels at figuring out game mechanics and using it to their advantage and/or player who excels at planning and strategizing for their team (including deciding optimal night actions, cop hunting etc.)

The Legend of Zelda Mash was one of the best mash experiences I've had. While it was super advanced mechanics wise, and I help a very low profile in the wolf chat, some people dove in to the super intricate mechanisms, and set up for a fairly straightforward game for the wolves. Billy was in the centre of all this, together with a few others (yes apoc, you have enough awards smh, and jan iirc). With travel mechanics, ingredient collecting, optimal recipes and meals, all smol cool varieties and ways we could use our roles. A super impressive showing. He doesn't play a ton of games, but he left a pretty big impression with this one

a few examples are RYM, where she was a pretty much useless PR claimed a strong PR, and the tiebreaker game where she fake claimed mason for cover and ate an early night kill - in general her play around mechanics is superb as both alignments.

    Nominated by: alexa
    Seconded by: Wiml
i don't really have a specific example but when i think of someone who is good with mechs and strategy i think of him because it's pretty consistent every game - most recent thing was in Hydra Game 6, he recommended that his hydra over-exaggerate how much they're never going to vote the last wolf slot for tactical reasons, then when they survived the night, they hammered the person

    Wiml

always feel like he puts a ton of thought into the best/most optimal mechanical decisions from the start of every game (for example, if you look at SF and qualifiers for season 8, writing up long posts about it too) - think the strategical part is important too because Wiml puts a lot of thought into optimal strategy regardless of alignment.

    Nominated by: alexa

Hally subbed into a town slot that was in the POE and probably always going to get lunched day 2, and ended up not only bringing the slot into universal TR territory, but also burying a wolf who was fairly deep in the towncore, contributing greatly to a village sweep!

subbed in d3 and crushed it so much that wolves used kp on him first during d3 itself and then killed him the next night when that failed. pushed a bunch of wolves, defended villagers, etc..

GGhana for Deck Mafia #003: The World is Upside Down
    Nominated by: Guillotina
    Seconded by: Alice Liddell
The Townies were scum and the Scummies were town in this game.

To put everything into perspective, his previous slot had slanked hard and got himself in several players' PoE; not only that but the informed minority team saved the slot for a mischop even though they had the means to kill him with an extra kill with a specific killing card.

That player had to be replaced.

    GGhana was that replacement.

He became a nightmare for the town party, GGhana caught and pushed 3 members of the informed minority and led his team to correctly day kill one of them.
Scum had to day kill him to shut him up, wasting a precious shot they needed for someone else, not a slot they considered mischoppable the night before.

Set up was 2 scum teams (each with a cop), three peeps each, thirteen town, 4 town PRs. King Bowser subs in N1 on Blue wolf team (which only has one active player) Overcomes that active player being Chopped D2 and with help of otehr replacement player (Guillotina) removes all obstacles en route to victory in F3.

D1. Newcomb subs in. Shockingly, he starts pushing wolves. Another wolf who he isn't even pushing goes over D1, so all his targets are still alive for bludgeoning D2. Wolves shoot him N1. He's docced. It's hard to imagine a worse game to wolf in.

One of the wolves (who Newcomb's pushing) needs to step out for D2. Just temporarily, he'll be back D3.

fonti subs in, 200-posts, MLs Newcomb and subs out.

    I think that's the dream.

    Arapocalypse for Shots! Mish Mash

Nom Alexa for that game because they totally turned around their slot and somehow convinced Town to vote a supper Town read player (based on dead Townies). She basically just made the game go from Town win to Scum win and they subbed in N1 from a 0 poster.

if there were a "most slept on turbo player" award i think this dude wins it for free, im pretty consistently surprised by his performances, especially as a villager where i feel like they're able to be found a majority of the time while also having pretty good accuracy

unfortunately this is done on an anime gimmick account but its at least one of the cuter ones

Only players who played their very first game of forum mafia in 2020 are eligible to be nominated for this award. I.e. this is not an award for "rookie Mafia Universe players", since a player super experienced in forum mafia could be new to MU.

    Wiml
    Nominated by: Thunal33
    Seconded by: Apogee
Wiml plays in a way that is a replicable process he gets great results with almost every time. He's absolutely key in every town game he plays in making great cases, denying wolves mischops, and providing info that points the town in the right direction. People who've played with him know to listen to him when they're town and know to fear him when they're wolf. He brings an incredible amount of dedication to every game and an incredible amount of diligence in checking his reads and meticulously going through every clear he makes just incase he made a mistake. He never stops reevaluating and he's not afraid to acknowledge when he might be wrong, which is an extremely important skill.

Wiml is one of the relatively few players imo who plays town in a way that's optimal in the long run. I've learned a lot from him and I try to keep up with his note-taking strategies since he has so many good ideas for pregame and postgame analysis. Sometimes he says something in a game and I'm just like "wow, that makes so much sense. I've never even thought about it that way!" He approaches the game from a unique, logical angle that town can bounce off of to great effect.

I focused on his townplay because that's what I've personally played with and talked to him about but I have no doubt he's also a competent wolf and he puts lots of dedication into planning strategies and giving needed information in wolfchat. From what I've seen he's great at supporting his partners and making wolfchat a fun place to be. Outside the game he's a friendly person, always there to talk to, and someone who's intent on learning everything there is to learn about mafia.

While bringing his own sense of style into games, he got all the way to the finale with his strong showings!!!! Beyond that, he also slid smoothly into the mash scene starting with Homestuck mash, where he bamboozled many for quite a while as mafia, and has continued to be quite enjoyable to see in games!!

Player whose overall gameplay has displayed the most improvement since the end of the past calendar year. Rookies to MU are not eligible for this award.

    AXIS
    Nominated by: c4e5g3d5
    Seconded by: Wiml
Mafia Championship Season 7. He appears on the scene. The only tell he can use with reasonable confidence is a lack of self-pres. The rest is the pre-packaged tells that he knows are "towny" and "scummy" but can't say actually make people town or scum.

Mafia Championship Season 8. Gets N1'd in quals. Advances to semis. Locks onto and successfully pushes over the final wolf who's getting miscleared. Very briefly becomes a finalist. May still be a finalist, we'll have to see on that.

What was Axis, is now AXIS.

Thunal is among the very top of players when it comes to dedication to mafia. She is not only a loud and enthusiastic voice in games but puts a large amount of effort into analysing the ganes she plays for both short abd long term benefits.

She is determined and has a heavily meticulous approach to almost every game she plays. Thun can often be seen making large sets of notes or documents before, during and after games to allow her to retain more information or reflect on past experiences in order to broaden her play.

Out of game, Thun even further dedicates herself to analysis in order to improve her upcoming games and can regularly be found putting a large amount of effort into reviewing games that have already ended in order to pick up new lessons from them and it's no surprise that she plays at such a high level as a result.

Her meticulousness and her willingness to go above and beyond to achieve her goals both in and out of games is almost unmatched within the community.

Her meme game is fairly dank as well.

He can critique thoughts with clarity, to get everyone to bring their A-game and also improve mutual understanding. He's also an incredibly friendly, free hugs on business days kinda guy, and the combination drives you to think harder and with more depth, because you know your work is always meaningful, while still never putting you down as if you're not doing enough, all because the guy's in the room with you.

just gonna c/p the nomination from last year:

played a ton of games this year and did great in pretty much all of them as both alignments

and on a site where a lot of people are at least somewhat polarized to one alignment (usually the green one), she bring the WIM and plays great both as a wolf and as a villager
They are playing even better this year, just endgamed a tough game as wolf (jack anon) and subbed in and did great as a villager in a mash+they are one of the most active players

crushed it as a villager in manti's 17er and in homestuck mash recently

she's legitimately a boon to whatever team she rands onto. as a wolf, she has already quite a few receipts, such as constellations team mafia and mountain climbing, and is known for being high volume and being able to clear herself easily. however, for as good of a wolf she may be, there's no understating how valuable she is as a villager as well. in a majority of village games i've seen from her, she consistently steers the game in a beneficial direction for the village, such as anni 2021, sf2, and pokemon unova mash. she has near unmatched dedication to games as both alignments and almost always proves to be a massive thorn in the side to whatever team she's opposite to.

The best argument for the dominance of town comes from the EoD vote counts. Wolves were eliminated every single day with the closest vote being D1 with a difference of 3 between the main and counterwagons. Every other elimination was a runaway wagon:
    D1: 9/6
    D2: 9/3
    D3: 8/3
    D4: 11/1
    D5: 6 (out of 10)
As for actual play, town just came together Day 1 and didn't leave the mafia any room to blend in. It started with Hally burying GeneralHankerchief for his handling of low hanging fruit in the game and continued with Marshal bringing attention to a slanking wolf as a counter to said low hanging fruit. The town PR actions were solid and ended up locking the game (with a bit of assistance from last minute PR cover). The rest of town worked to clear themselves, even while under extreme pressure. There were a few hiccups along the way (e.g., a mid-Day 1 sub out which interfered with the mafia agenda, one or two goobers who wouldn't drop the tinfoil, etc.), but the rest of the results speak for themselves.

Pseudo sweep against an amazingly stacked wolf team (Arapocalypse, Dyachei, Visorslash, Ladd, YOLOSWAG, Mistyx, Billymills, Bop, Benneh, Ren, etc) on paper is amazing, but there was a consistent drive to get things back on track which is one of the great markers of a great village - getting things right despite problems.

Along with the 3p (Benneh as WolfNoddotGif) town found the wolves that fear bussed their partners d1, leaving the last few wolves POE'd on the Marshal wagon left for the pickings.

Along with a doc save in a mash on night 2, a wolf peek from the mason recruiter, and a wolf reveal from a Kamikaze seer the wolves got stuck in an unwinnable position on night 4 unless they had a strong rand in D5 ITAs (which they died during the night before that could happen).

The wolf team of 4maskwolf/SkyWalker/Caccio72 swept town and killed the town poisoner N1. With transcend's death on d1, the remaining two scum (schizo and alexa) had to run through the remaining 12 villagers on their own. Luckily a transcend buss had been planned out spectacularly by the other two wolves, basically locking them town until town was forced to re-evaluate. By that time Alexa and Schizo had both towned it up so much that they were found to be town by many players after looking at posts in isolation. Both players did an amazing job of distancing from each other. Alexa in particular is a player with extremely strong town meta who people expect to die quickly in games, which gave her some suspision after a certain point, but she still managed to take home the win for wolves in f3. Schizo sort of seemed like a wildcard at first but they were outragously townie, the highlight of their play might be them hard pushing neopests so desperately and unnecessarily that it pretty much made them universally townread. A wonderful performnace against many strong townies, it deserves this award.

It's really rare for villagers to do this nom because they often have no idea just how much work the wolves were actually doing or how much wolves dictated what happened in the game (they are uninformed after all!!).

Then they'll blame a role or setup and just walk away from the game none the wiser...

But this team CRUSHED this game. With the exception of jonnyD I don't think a single wolf died on the village's terms up until N4, when it was already way too late. No boatz role will ever change that fact.

Definitely top 5 teams I've ever been a part of and I've been a part of a lot of good teams!!

What really stands out about this team is that it felt as though they were on the backfoot for many moments in the game, but fought through valiantly for victory!! Starting with several mafia counterwagons at EoD 1, they went into day 2 with a disadvantage where many of the mafia were in the PoE, even if they weren't counterwagons!!! However, the team put in massive amounts of effort to soldier forward and forcing town to doubt their correct reads, with some like super/Wiggles/Doctor Zeus posting extremely well to live to endgame, despite having been suspected quite early on!! With ladd/others shaping ITAs and making calculated strikes to silence strong town leaders, their combined WIM and will in never giving up was quite hype to see!!!!

This slot was a fantastic scum partner to play with as they were always bringing about new ideas to the table and always figured a way out of scenarios that I thought had them doomed. Ina and TGT perfectly complemented each other as each of them were able to convince the town that they were town. This Hydra had 100% thread presence and it was insane how they were always there to respond to the thread. Ina's perfect scum gameplay had me dumb-struck by how good that they were at it, TGT's tone and reactions were always towny. Each member of this Hydra had their own weaknesses, but they became an unstoppable scum powerhouse when they were combined.

The elegantly verbose Garden Gnome delivered once again in this game, chronicling the tale of a raven and its shenanigans observing a lonely poet's descent into insanity!!! Nevermore... I'll let some particularly cool bits speak for themselves:

In fact, everything that he did seemed to be borne of desperation. He grimaced in odd ways, almost as if he didn't remember how to smile. Then he spoke and his voice sounded rusty, as if it had been years since he had spoken to anyone.

“Though thy crest be shorn and shaven, thou,”the creaky-voiced man said, “art sure no craven,
Ghastly grim and ancient Raven wandering from the Nightly shore—
Tell me what thy lordly name is on the Night’s Plutonian shore!”

Why should I tell him such an intimate detail about me? No human can ever know a bird's real name. They can give us names but their names are limited by the fact that they are Earth bound. We soar high above them, and our names reflect our ascendance to the skies. But the humans can never know our secrets. I could never explain that to the man. A book fell off of his lap, and I responded to him, "Nevermore."

The man was so startled that he spilled the remainder of his beverage onto the carpet.

When he drank his ale and ate his bread and cheese, he coughed and sputtered, seemingly unable to swallow anything. In a raspy voice, the man looked directly at me and read a few verses from the poem that he was composing.

This I sat engaged in guessing, but no syllable expressing
    To the fowl whose fiery eyes now burned into my bosom’s core;
This and more I sat divining, with my head at ease reclining
On the cushion’s velvet lining that the lamp-light gloated o’er,
But whose velvet-violet lining with the lamp-light gloating o’er,
    She shall press, ah, nevermore!

Who is she??? Where is this she???? I was going to say something, to ease the man's loneliness, but he just kept on reading, almost as if I weren't there.

Then, methought, the air grew denser, perfumed from an unseen censer
Swung by Seraphim whose foot-falls tinkled on the tufted floor.
“Wretch,” I cried, “thy God hath lent thee—by these angels he hath sent thee
    Respite—respite and nepenthe from thy memories of Lenore;
Quaff, oh quaff this kind nepenthe and forget this lost Lenore!”
    Quoth the Raven “Nevermore.”

He was yelling and crying and, yes, the air seemed to grow denser, as if there were a sudden storm approaching. The man obviously expected me to say something. He was staring at me, expectantly, and all I could do was croak "Nevermore." I used to know more words but, since the human who taught me to speak had died, I could only remember "Nevermore."

The man was weeping profusely as he read: “Prophet!” said I, “thing of evil!—prophet still, if bird or devil!—
Whether Tempter sent, or whether tempest tossed thee here ashore,
Desolate yet all undaunted, on this desert land enchanted—
On this home by Horror haunted—tell me truly, I implore—
Is there—is there balm in Gilead?—tell me—tell me, I implore!”
    Quoth the Raven “Nevermore.”

Nevermore, nevermore, nevermore, nevermore... I said over and over again, as the man fell into a deep sleep, maybe induced by the ale that he had been drinking all day, despite the fact that drinking had become increasingly difficult for him as time went by. I continued to stand guard on top of the bust of Pallas just above the man's chamber door. I had seen rats freely run in and out of the building. And at least one of them had bitten the man. He murmured and fell back to sleep.

The man was becoming more and more agitated, calling out for Lenore over and over again. Occasionally, he would mentioned the name "Annabelle Lee." He was pacing the floor, not looking at me, not looking at anything. Suddenly, there was a loud rap on the door. The man looked confused, but opened the door.

"What? Are you drunk?" asked the visitor. "You don't look good. Have you been writing? What have you written?"

The man picked up a piece of paper and began reading in a shaky voice. "Once upon a midnight dreary, while I pondered weak and weary..."

"You do look weak and weary. And thirsty. I brought you some fresh water. You need to drink..."

The poet struck his visitor and sent the cup of water flying. He screamed in terror at the sight of the water. His visitor saw that the man was afraid of water. "Were you bitten by the rat that got into your house last week?"

The poet said nothing. He just stared.

The visitor ran out of the house and down the street, yelling that no one should go into the poet's house.

Schweppes, who died, was the cup of water.

Beck: It is. But this time, it will be different. I've been planning this conversations for a long time, and I'm going in prepared. When I get back we'll finally be in control.

I grabbed a folder off my desk and opened it up.

Oops, wrong folder. That's my file. Life as Dr. Prof. Detective can get extremely busy, between the operations, the instructions, and the investigating.

I grabbed another folder. Yes, this is the one I need. Motwell Gluggerous, my arch-nemesis.

I set out to visit Micromanaging Manatee and the Manatee Men at his Manatee Manor located deep in the back of The Aquarium. There, I would confront his crime syndicate and begin Universe City's respiration project, finally...

My footsteps filled the empty Aquarium halls as I approached a large door. I pushed it ajar like I had many times before, and there he lay.

Micromanaging Manatee and The Manatee Men: Ah, Hansen. Or should I say, Dr. Prof. Detective? What a pleasant surprise!

Beck: I won't stop you. Alone, that is. But I've assembled a cast of Heroes across our galaxy to save Universe City from your slimy fins.

*Micromanaging Manatee and The Manatee Men takes another long puff from his kelp cigar, and rolls his head back in laughter.*

Micromanaging Manatee and The Manatee Men: You stupid, stupid fool. You see, Dr. Prof. Detective, or whatever you like to call yourself. You're a Loser. You shall never win. How do you know your Heroes can even be trusted?! How do you know I haven't gotten to them first?! You would be surprised how little kelp it costs to buy a Hero's allegiance. But I suppose you will discover that yourself soon enough!

My mind began to spin. Was I doing the right thing? Or is he bluffing? Could I actually trust the Heroes I had meticulously assembled? Or would I end up having to... Save Universe City from itself?

The spooky story to end all spooky stories - a story following the two siblings Tup and Tut, from a remote village hidden in the forest, and the strange circumstances they find themselves in... overall extremely well written throughout!!!! This is just the beginning, and it gets better:

This is a story that tells us about the people of a remote village, hidden deep in a dense forest. A village that had seen generations upon generations pass, hidden away and isolated from the outside world. There had always been rumors about foreign cultures and people, but with close to no encounters to strengthen them, they have always remained just that.

Throughout the ages, each family in the village had had their own specific area of proficiency. With the spirits of their ancestors to aid their proficiency in the art, it also served as their life-long profession. Hunters, carpenters, blacksmiths, herbalists, historians and many more trades were represented.

Each evening in the village, there was a celebration. A celebration around a sacred bonfire, together with all the spirits of their ancestors, to maintain the strong ties that had been upheld across the centuries. Each evening, the family of storytellers gathered with them all around the fire and took turns to share captivating stories, sometimes deep into the night. Sometimes the stories told were of important historic value, like the ones about how the first Tree of the forest came to be, and sometimes the stories had no other purpose than to entertain.

One particularly eerie story was told this specific night.

A story about a song. It was sung by foreign creatures that had called upon the village many centuries ago. The strange beings sang for days upon days. About sorrow and despair, about joy and laughter. About life being created, but also taken away. Each word that was sung was also realized in the village. Enchanting as it was, the verses about joy brought joy - and the ones about sorrow brought sorrow unlike any other. Verses about death brought with it the passing of many villagers, while verses about new life being created led to life being brought about - with a myriad of plants, bugs, and larger animals appearing as if out of nowhere. When the foreign beings had finished singing their enchanting ballads, they simply left, never again to be seen.

This incident had seen to it that the one, most sacred of rules was created. Music, in all its forms, was forbidden. Whenever someone would even accidentally hum even the slightest of melodies, it seemed to have such a bizarre effect on the surroundings that it was judged unsafe, and forbidden, for the safety of the village. The bards were forced to either find a new calling or were driven out, and the songs of old were all reworked into harmless stories to be told by mothers at bedtime, or during the evening bonfires.

With the village busy with preparations for the evening feast, the children were playing a game of hide-and-seek.

Tup and Tut, the only two children of the village forger, were headed in the same direction to find a hiding place. There were no limits for how far you were allowed to go in the game, but of course, hiding in plain sight would not do. They sprinted off to escape the lighter areas around the clearing and any other people that might draw attention to their position. Tup pointed at herself, and then at a particularly wide, hollow tree that she had used to hide many times before. Her brother understood her intention, and took off in a different direction. With autumn approaching, there were many dead leaves and twigs that she gathered around herself to hide her whereabouts as she settled herself half-lodged in the cavity that the tree offered.

She had barely caught her breath before she could hear footsteps nearing her.

"Tuuuuuuup! I know you are hiding in that stupid tree of yours again - you might as well come out!"

Her heart nearly leaped out of her chest, with the intensity it was pounding - nobody besides Tut had ever seen her there, how could this be!

She carefully peeked out of her hiding spot. She was well-hidden after all, and it was dark - but her friend would surely find her if she stayed.

    "Tuuuuup! Come ouuuut!"

The words had a kind of ring to them that made her body shiver involuntarily. She wasn't sure what it was - but the scare it gave her was nearly equally as strong as the prospect of being found by her playmate.

The echoing of the voice still permeated her surroundings as she prepared to leave her now compromised hiding place.

She couldn't run towards her brother, nor towards the centre of the village either. She swallowed decisively - and swiftly moved out into the open air.

"Tuuuup! Is that you making all those sounds? Come heee-eeeeere!!!"

Once again, her body shivered intensely - but this time, before she had even processed where the words came from - she had found herself moving towards her pursuer. The words kept echoing in her head, as she fought to stop her body from moving towards him. She finally managed to make a full stop, but she knew that she was going to be found in an instance, the way this had gone. This wasn't what she had planned! How di-

"Tup! I know where you are - you aren't even hiding! Are you scaaaaared?" He mocked.

The words helped her snap out of it - and she decisively ran back towards her previous hiding spot, and then past it.

"Stop running, Tup! You're being silly!"

Tup didn't stop. She kept running until she was certain that she wouldn't be found. As she skidded to a halt, she scanned her surroundings and found a large rock that she thought was big enough to conceal her whereabouts. This was about as far as she had ever strayed from the village.

She was both confused and frightened as she sat down to catch her breath again, as she thought back about how her body had just betrayed her. She had brief recollections of slightly similar incidents where the shivering had sometimes come over her - but never like this. Could the stories from the previous night be true?

Yet again, the voice of her pursuer broke the silence of her surroundings.

"Tup, please, just come back here, it's not safe this far out! I know you're around here somewhere."

Her friend was far closer than she had expected, and as he rounded the rock, she instinctively reacted.

"I am not heeeeeereeee! I am noooo-ooott heeeeeee-eeeeereeee!!" She chanted the words, with no real melody to them despite her best attempts, but it seemed to work out well enough.

Her friend was standing right next to her - but seemed to be looking straight through her. His stare was hollow and he didn't seem to be aware of what was going on - he kept rounding the rock, and even as she had since long stopped her chanting, he kept moving as if in a trance back towards the village.

The whole situation was so eerie that Tup decided she'd had enough.

She got up and ran towards her friend.

"Okay I'm sorry, you found me, you win!"

She ran up to him and touched his shoulder, to which he reacted with a startle.

"Who's there!?" he yelled out. It was apparent that he couldn't see her.

In his shock he stumbled over a tree-root and fell over, but quickly hurried back up to his feet and took off towards the village, looking around himself in panic.

Tup was left there standing, dumfounded. Her own words - I am not here - echoing in her head.

Tup tried to keep up with the much bigger and faster boy, but with the evening getting darker, it was hard to find her footing and she kept stumbling over her own feet. Each time she managed to get back up, the boy seemed to have gotten a little further away from her. She had to stop yet again to catch her breath. Her eyes were clouded with tears and she was panting heavily, desperately, for some calming lungfuls of air.

She quickly gave up trying to figure out in which direction the boy had run. She didn't recognize her surroundings, and the panic was starting to take over as she collapsed to the ground, huddling up against a tree.

    Among myriads of trees,
    lonely and cold

    Sang Tup the wise girl,
    A pitch purest of gold

A pitch to enchant both friend and foe
As we watch little Tup and her powers grow

    Now calm little girl
No more tears you will cry

Do not muse on this prophecy,
    No need to ask why

    Let us all return home,
    to your family and kin

    Let us follow your story
    that tonight will begin

A story of greatness, both evil and not
A story of powers the world had forgot

A girl that can realise her deepest desires
With the knowledge now found nothing else she requires

Tup didn't notice the words being chanted, nor where they came from, but she immediately felt their soothing, calming effect - as if she had never been afraid, as if the whole incident had never taken place.

Without any hesitation, she got up to her feet to return to the village and the evening festivities that were just about to begin, all the while humming to herself about how she from this point on would be anything but invisible.

Perhaps the most entertaining and tastiest of Garden Gnome's flavours, I was definitely craving chocolate while reading through her flavour journaling attempts at trying (and generally failing) to keep to new year's resolutions!!! This is only the beginning, but all of it is just as hilarious:

This time, I'm gonna do it. I'm gonna journal every day and lose weight and exercise and... who can do that much in a day? Oh. Eat chocolate. You know, mental health food. But not so much that I gain weight and become more sluggish than I am... feeling kind of sleepy. I really, really am going to keep my New Year's resolutions. All year! Okay, well, at least six months! And buy new clothes. Nice little clothes, and I won't rip out the seams when I put the cute little clothes on. Oooh, yes. I'm ready to start... um... soon. I'm so hyped for this. I'm keeping those resolutions. They're not just a pack of words on a page. This year will be different!!! Signed, the future svelte and strong gnome (see those weights on the floor? See my powerful muscles??? (maybe not, lol.)

It's a good thing that I didn't set humility as a New Year's resolution, lol. But anyway, what were the others? Oh, right. Eat chocolate. Mental health food. I am a really great keeper of New Year's resolutions. In one day, I ate two full boxes of Godiva Ballotin chocolates. Expensive as heck, but so totally worth it. All with classic Belgian fillings. I think that I was supposed to share that chocolate with the family? I kind of lost my mind after the first almond praline raindrop. I thought that I died and went to heaven.

On the other hand, I didn't eat any nutritious meals, nor did I exercise, except to raise another chocolate to my lips.

I need to make a new resolution.

No drinking orange juice after brushing my teeth. Um. Ooops. I already brushed my teeth. And the orange juice is poured. I've got to drink it. How could I not? Maybe with a wee bit of vodka? Oooh, mixing a drink! Exercise.

    Hey!!!!

    Hey!!!!!

The cat just pushed the glass of orange juice onto the floor. Now I get to clean it up, instead of drink it. Ugh. I need more chocolate.

Mich-El, who died, was two boxes of expensive chocolates.

A big one with 150 pieces. It's so pricey that you can pay for it in installments. Oooh, more Belgian fillings. Unfortunately, I was caught attempting to taste test one of the pralines. The box went back into the closet, and I went to visit a friend, who urged me to make a new year's resolution that didn't involve chocolate. So, I did. My next new year's resolution was to try unusual foods, at least one time.

Unfortunately, I told my friend. She said, "There's a new year's eve Bug Fest! Let's go to it. Lots of taste tests, and you'll love it."

Taste tests at a bug fest? Okay. Well, maybe you get to look at all sorts of bugs living in some sort of bug habitat, and eat cheese and crackers and drink delicious wine. Mmm, wine.

Not exactly. The bug fest was a food extravaganza. Well, if you can consider insects food. There were all sorts of ant delicacies. The only one that looked appealing was the chocolate covered ants, although why embellish upon chocolate? It's fine in its natural state. Then there were centipedes on a stick, deep fried cicadas, crickets served on a stick, deep fried grasshoppers, and more. This was a definite test of my new year's resolution to try unusual foods. I kind of, sort of succeeded. I did tentatively take a taste test or two. Most of it tasted pretty yuck, although the grasshopper was better than expected and, of course, the chocolate covered ants because... well, chocolate, although it wasn't exactly Godiva chocolate.

This resolution could be hard to keep. On the other hand, if I taste test awful things for a year, I will lose weight, right??

    Or, at least, misplace it.

Happy Doctor, who died, was a few chocolate covered ants. Plurality, who also died, was a deep fried grasshopper.

i can’t overstate how fun this game was. the mechanics were both very interesting and also very enjoyable. the setup was well-designed and was extremely creative while still being fun and not veering into bastard stuff too much. the hosts were really involved and did a great job fostering a positive environment in the thread. the flavor was great. the players were really fun to play with and everyone on all three teams played extremely well. it was everything you want a mafia game to be

What else is there to say on this? The game speaks for itself, as a fun and fresh new concept on the mafia scene!!!! With town bringing their top tier solving skills while keeping their arguments concise and letting their votes speaker louder than their cases, and mafia playing their tactical best by keeping close tabs on the gamestate while seeming entirely relaxed... they played very well to counter town, managing to bring the game home in an F7!! 10/10 game, would absolutely love a runback!!!

this was just an incredible game overall. the ceiling on the performances of this game were very high, with excellent gameplay from the likes of 4maskwolf, fanmail, centuries, and viggorous. the game was also excellently modded and had some great events and setup ideas to boot. just a really solid and fun game overall.

the theme was integrated with the mechanics so well and the flavor was incredibly detailed. it really felt like bear, ara, manti and amy created an entire world within the game with its own lore and everything. it was truly something out of a lovecraft novel. also the sanity mechanic and everything that went along with that was cool. the roles were unique and interesting, there was weather, the events were cool and thematic, etc. they really outdid themselves in every way.

i guess you could say it was scary good

afaik this first appeared (at least on mu) in legend of zelda mash earlier this year, if im wrong and its older disregard. was used again in the recent shots mash. basically vanilla villagers instead of not being able to do any actions have "investigate" "enhance" and "thwart" actions that (a) may do something if enough of them target the same player, and (b) someone who received a vanillager pm may be an unconscious pr that causes something to happen with these actions. it's a really cool way of letting everyone be engaged mechanically in a mash to some degree

Ever played a Turbo and thought it was too slow? The Sunbae Turbo has you covered. Now with 1 minute days and 0 minute nights (cause modbot rounds up for some reason), making snap reads has never been easier than ever. Surprisingly the setup is decently balanced with the highest element of chaos not found in any other setup and would recommend to play 10/10 times. Best played in a vig 10er setup but alternatives include cop 9er.

Funniest or very memorable moment/event/day/happening/interaction in a mafia game.

Highlight of this moment is the reaction of Marl who was actually a wolf and surely came close to having a heart attack as he was catching up.

An in game event pitted LordQuas (with the Jax Wessso fake jedi character) against The Cryptozoologist (with the Dynast Insidia fake sith empress character) in a lightsaber beamsaber duel. The winner was, of course, determined by the amount of hype the players in the game, in wolf chat, and in the graveyard could generate for either Quas or Crypto. And oh boy did everyone bring their A game.

    The event starts here: https://www.mafiauniverse.com/forums...=1#post4814208

It goes from post #18276 to #18655, and it's just non-stop hype posts and memes. Easily one of the most fun events I've seen in a mash, and it was all the participants making it happen rather than something us hosts were doing.

If I remember correctly someone needs to be nominated specifically for this award which is hard because so many players, dead and alive, just killed it. Quas killed it. Crypto killed it. Just everyone.

But, if I had to choose someone out of all of it, I have to go with @Boquise for this absolute masterpiece:

    https://www.captiongenerator.com/219...t-vs-Lord-Quas

Just a brutal takedown of the wolves. It was technically submitted outside of the event, but if it had made it before the cutoff it would've single-handedly tipped things in favor of Jax Wesso. Perfection, truly.

With how end of d1 worked though, there was a modpeeked member of mafia revealed, so most players were zoned out on the game. GH decided to be funny and make a statement praising how the site didn't crash for once, only for it to go down just minutes after the day phase ended and he was revealing the d1 elimination's role pm. The discord chat as well as posting the syntax error copypasta in the role pm flip made it a great moment to remember for the mash.

During the game Arete and Donna were loverized so that if one died the other would die as well. In their neighborhood chat Donna claimed wolf to Arete and Arete claimed lost wolf to Donna. After some "fishing for info" in the neighbor chat, Arete announces to the thread that Donna is a wolf and that it should be ok to trade them for a wolf.

Mistyx came up with a great plan to handle this situation. By having Arete wish for a Desperado shot (a vig that kills a wolf if shot or kills you if they aren't a wolf), they can shoot SilverKeith (a potential wolf that would also be a strong villager voice if cleared) and either kill wolfSK or have the shot rebound and kill Arete which would also take out wolf Donna due to being loverized.

It was an elite plan locked to kill a wolf and potentially even kill a wolf and peek a villager.

You will lead a strike team of five of our best into enemy territory and destroy their transport ships. This is your assignment.

The Venturer drops out of hyperspace, hidden by its cloaking field in the shadow of the moon. You, Captain Stran, look through the viewport. That's when you see it: The Dynast's super-dreadnought Emerald Bastion in orbit over the target. Its engines are at full power as it slowly begins to drift towards the planet.

You don't know what else to do. Your only other option is to try to get inside the ship before it gets too close. You're not sure if you can make it…but then again, neither were the Elders.

Its massive guns are pointed at the planet below. You're going to be flying right up against that gun! "Captain Stran, I'm not sure if this is a good idea."

You look to Jax in silent agreement.

"We can do this, or we can die trying." You walk to the helm and give the order. All hands on deck.

The crew assembles on the bridge, Jax and yourself giving the speech. "We've trained on this our entire lives. Now we get to do what we're best at: saving others. Whether we live or die, we do it for the good of the galaxy. Varmaria is under attack, and they need saving."

    "But how?" One asks.

"We're going to ram this ship into the super-dreadnought in orbit, board it, and take it over."

Many of the crew gasp in shock. "This is a suicide mission."

"The rest of you will remain on the ship, cloaked, and ambush the enemy should they try to retake their ship," you continue.

The crew is silent. They volunteered for this. They knew the stakes. But it was never this real, for any of you. An hour from now you might all be dead. You'll be facing off against the Akto. All that was left to do was put the plan in action.

    "Everyone, get ready." You say.

You all move towards the bridge doors, manned by two crew members. They open the doors as you approach, revealing the black of space and the yawning portal.

"Good luck, everyone..." The crew begins to move, before you raise your hand.

"Just one second." You pause, calling to Karoff. "Give us some lights." The ship's lights briefly flash on, and Jax's smile glows, before disappearing as the doors close. You hear shouting from the other side, and realise what's about to happen. "I don't think they're joining us!"

"Get us out of here, now!" You shout. The rest of the crew runs for their stations as you quickly hurry to the gunnery station. Outside, you see the crewmen on the side of the ship desperately trying to get in, as it quickly closes up, sealing them out in space.

"Reroute the shields to the door!" You shout. Shields are meant to be able to keep atmosphere in, so maybe they'd keep air out. A buzz runs through the ship as the doors begin to seal. It stops midway, and the men outside fall away, now protected by the shields. The doors close, and soon there's nothing but blackness out the window.

    "We're in!" Someone calls.

You turn to see your navigator's seat empty. You hear a shot, which reverberates throughout the massive ship. Then comes the pain, searing and burning into your skull. The navigation console pings and a siren blares. There are intruders on the ship.

You stagger to your feet, clutching your head. Your crewmates rush onto the bridge as you yell "secure the ship!" A metal shell slams into you and you fall to the ground with a thud.

Crawling towards the comms terminal, hoping to send word out, you force yourself forward. You reach the terminal and try to send out a distress call. You notice that the shell that hit you cracked your visor. You can only last a few more minutes before the toxic air destroys you. You watch the screen and wait for a reply.

After a few minutes, one comes through. You read it out loud:

"Major quantum interference detected in the area, standby for total discontinuation." Step back. The message repeats in different directions, becoming a nonsensical hash as it goes.

You try to send a message asking for help. It's gone almost before you send it. The nav consol buzzes. "Warning: unknown star system."

The ship rocks one last time as the hull splits. A blackhole opens up inside the core of the planet, and you feel yourself being sundered. The last thing you see is the planet collapsing in on itself and the dead, frozen stars beyond.

    Nothing.

Your head splits as you lose yourself. You're a mass of pain, fear, and anger. Then you are nothing at all.

The commander is dead. Meanwhile, on the Tosei homeworld the Incarnations are cast through space, leaving Andromeda without Spirit. The universe will soon collapse and die without the Old Ones holding things together.

Hours pass. Or days? You don't know. You wake up in the ruins of your ship, bloody bodies strewn on the ground around the ship. The first thing you notice is the bright sun shining on you, making it impossible to see. The second thing you notice: that star isn't red. It's yellow.

You stand up and stumble around the ship. You find the Harbinger's sensors in the charred ruins of the cockpit. You steady yourself and look at the planet that is your new home. Scanners indicate this planet is bustling with life, surrounded by a strange... energy. It seems to be concentrated over there. You could probably get more information about this new world from the hypernet.

You hold out your hands and watch them dissolve away into strands of energy. You expand your mind outwards, touching the minds of your crew, then out to your ship, then out to the energy source. It was always there, you realize: always there and ignored.

Jax called this The Way. But it didn't... feel like that. It feels like magic. It's everywhere, and it's beautiful. You feel so connected to everything, yet separate from it. You are one with the world.

You realize what has happened. You aren't in Andromeda anymore.

Turns out the entire game has gotten Isekai'ed out of Andromeda and into a new world, as students of the Kusoyarou Academy, reflected through the environmental changes of the server name/picture and channel names!! Players had some very entertaining responses to this in real time:

Honestly, if there is something happening on this site, Ara's probably part of it. Super committed and passionate about everything she takes part in, whether it is making sure games are run consistently, mashes are hosted smoothly (shes literally carrying every mash im part of and is also part of the bear/ara/manti mash team) tons of mod related stuff (damn you bots making life hard for us), knows the ins and outs of the discord server, does a big part of the champs hosting, and whatever other project is run on this site. This place would suck without ara tbh.

    Seconded by: Ezradekezra
As most know, Makaze is literally the being who keeps the lights on around here!!!! To make this an actual writeup that isn't just talking about the obvious, here's some of my favourite new features that they updated/added in the past year:

    • Pride site theme - it makes stuff rainbow!!! Implemented during Pride Month, you can go into your settings and turn this on over any site theme all year round!!!!! This speaks for itself, extremely hype!!!
    • Postcounts on retrospective votecounts - You can now see the postcounts all players had at the exact time of a retrospective postcount!! Minor, but just the perfect example of small quality of life improvements that are always highly appreciated!!!
    • New post notifications - You can see how many new posts were made in a thread, either through a number at the top of a tab or in the upper left!! I love this feature!!!! Being able to see new posts in a thread when you're in a different tab is just incredibly useful when you're keeping track of a ton of different threads... this is for sure my top favourite QoL update from last year!!!
    • Customizable faction colours - You can now choose what colour Modbot assigns to each individual faction!!!!!! This is hands down the absolute best new feature from a host perspective!!!! It just has endless uses and is amazing to have, particularly for stuff like mashes!!!!!

This is along with the essential day-to-day maintenance of the site, of course, plus a whole bunch of other stuff not mentioned here!!!

I don't think it's a secret for most of you that my track record in reading Hally has been rather … well … awful thus far in our games. I did have one specific game where I recognized Hally was a villager and confidently (and happily!) let the world know. They flipped wolf. After our Syndicate game together and then Anni (both of which saw me find Hally's eod wolfy and press there) I wanted to make a concentrated effort to finally read that slot correctly.

I spent some time today combing through recent-ish games this year of Hally's. The wolf game on the Org website, the Vig game over on the Syndicate one, and all sorts of mashes/smaller games through MU as well. Rocks fall, Anni, Homestuck, CoV, etc. You get the picture. All in all there were 16 different games I pulled isos from. I then went and ran through the isos extracting all the day one posts from the first half of the day, labeled them as W or V, and ran them through a bit of a homemade database that would do a few different things for me. One of the things was to make a word cloud which would count the number of times each word was used in these isos and make the word larger the more frequently it was used. For example:

Anyways, I separated the wolf isos from the villa isos and then removed things like articles (a, the, in, an, etc) as well as player names as those aren't really super relevant to our investigation and cross referenced them to see if anything word usage stood out as alignment indicative in the top 10 most common words. While there were small word choices favored it didn't seem super significant. What WAS significant were two other things:

One: While specific word choices weren't very telling I did notice a definitely trend of elegance in the wolf isos. The words may change but the idea remained the same. In wolf ISOs Hally had a habit of using larger, more elegant words whereas in the villa ISOs Hally just talked more casually. I'll call these Posts Exceedingly Elegant as we continue.

Two: Villager isos were much more full of observational posts rather than inquisitive ones. The wolf iso was full of open ended questions requesting elaboration. Not just directly to a specific player but also towards the thread at large asking if it saw what Hally was seeing. Meanwhile the villager iso was full of more pointed statement. It was telling the thread what Hally was seeing and making sure everyone understood. The village iso had a higher frequency – by a significant margin – of Posts Of Observation.

Again, I really want to get this right so I didn't stop there. Science isn't science until you write it down after all. I went ahead and charted the percentage of posts as a villager and as a wolf for both posts containing an elegant word and posts making observations. It's a bit crude but here's the quick jot down I made to visualize it:

So I wanted to see how this one was shaping up. Remember, these were all taken from the first half of day one isos which we've made it past here. I went ahead and ran through Hally's iso from this game, plotted the elegance and observational percentages on the chart, and ran the following equation to try and determine the exact percentage chance Hally has at being a wolf:

(Posts Exceedingly Elegant as a wolf)(Posts Exceedingly Elegant here) + (Posts of Observation as a villager)(Posts of Observation here) = the mathematical chance of Hally being a villager here (do 1-this for wolf obv).

    Which looks something like this:

(Posts Exceedingly Elegant as a wolf)(Posts Exceedingly Elegant here) + (Posts of Observation as a villager)(Posts of Observation here)

    Or written differently

Guillo's Tactics #2 for Best Scum Performance - Group (Small Game). The wolf team of 4maskwolf/SkyWalker/Caccio72 swept town and killed the town poisoner N1. It was a game where wolves allowed stronger voices of town to eat themselves alive and get mired in conflict, and each wolf at one point had to shake off heavy suspicion on their slot enough to redirect attention elsewhere.

Ephemeral for Best Scum/3p Performance - Single Player (Mash) for Baldur's Gate II. :WoolooRolling: for dayz

generally there aren’t enough large games (like 25-30 players) that aren’t mashes to really justify it being its own category, so larger games that aren’t mashes just get lumped into the small game cats

also please use the feedback thread for suggestions. this thread is for nominations

    Town for Balder's Gate
The town team in Balder's Gate had to fight against a very strong mafia team. The mafia had a lot of well known power mafia on it, and town were able to shut half those names down in the first two days ensuring nobody but town was controlling the kills.

It was a tie. Sett was eliminated at random.

    Day 1 has ended.

Day 1 ended at 9:00 PM EST on Monday, January 25th, 2021.

    Benneh in Balder's Gate (3p)
Benneh is a strong player of all alignments. Often killed by mafia early in the game, or fear killed by town if he makes it into late game. So he decided to make his role fun and town side as long as he could (as a last man standing type of role should do). He had a strong position in getting town credit that he was likely to out survive the mafia team to endgame by himself. Unfortunately he got mechanically confirmed not town, which ruined his chances of doing so. He had the deaths of Dyachei and 4Mask on his side for a strong path to win if he wasn't announced.

    Elminster (Uncle Dynamite + Bopolis)
If you've never played many of their games before, you should join their mashes. With their roles having so many complexities which is easy to lose track of night actions, mechanics for ITAs where it isn't just a simple %chance to hit, and mix of events while at it makes their games complex for the players that enjoy that style, while also allowing the balance basic mafia to be played for those who don't. UD seems interested on hosting more mashes throughout the year, to give everyone more impressions of his content and people should definitely play.

nominating generalhankerchief for best lolcats in rocks fall and someone dies invitational.

unfortunately, gh was outed by the tracker, but didn't go down before delivering some fantastic lolcats, kicking off with a repurposing of the infamous shrek copypasta from season 4 of champs, and later sending every player in the game pictures of him roasting them. for the amount of effort that went into them, i feel like this has to be nominated.

Seconding this with a short write up (if somebody else wants to write something better, feel free). Also feels a bit weird to call it a small game with 89 players, but not really sure there's a better category for it.

Awards were lacking last year so I'm going to be more proactive about nominations when I think of them.

4maskwolf for best scum player based on his performances Baldur's Gate II and Throne Mash II. Being among the last two wolves standing in a mash in consecutive months takes tremendous WIM and energy, and he along with Centuries carried us through for the win in the last one without ever drawing serious suspicion until the final day.

Luco for best use of a power role as Slank Vig in Throne Mash II. Avoiding the easy out to clear slankers with the field's consent, Luco put a lot of thought into players with minimal content and managed to bag two wolves while correctly holstering his shot on two villagers.

For real though putting a bunch of arbitrary restrictions on nominations to a silly popularity contest is why half the categories are still empty come December.

I agree with Shad. I think it's better to nominate people/teams when the games are still fresh in the heads of a majority of players. A day waiting period is fine. A week is unacceptable. Generally, people have moved on and have focused on the next game. Especially multitablers.

Nominating the scumteam (@Alexa, @SchizoAffected and @Transcend) for Best Scum Performance (Small Game) in Mountain Climbing Mafia

Luco for best use of a power role as Slank Vig in Throne Mash II. Avoiding the easy out to clear slankers with the field's consent, Luco put a lot of thought into players with minimal content and managed to bag two wolves while correctly holstering his shot on two villagers.
If this hasn't been made official yet, I will re-nominate Luco with Shad's write up. (Or if it's allowed, I'll just second it and be done.)

nominating throne mash 2 for best mash.

this was just an incredible game overall. the ceiling on the performances of this game were very high, with excellent gameplay from the likes of 4maskwolf, fanmail, centuries, and viggorous. the game was also excellently modded and had some great events and setup ideas to boot. just a really solid and fun game overall.

also nominating 4maskwolf for best wolf performance (single player) in throne mash 2.
