Enjoying reading these GH.

I started watching survivor very late (like only a few years ago) and I've bounced around earlier seasons. I'll give some of the ones you've recommended a try but I'm mostly spoiled on all the winners but that often doesn't stop me enjoying it, I still get to see why people were so hyped or respected in returning seasons.

Funny reading your perspective as such a purist, I get it but I also enjoy that people who work hard to find idols etc are rewarded. E.g. tony is out there not even sleeping to get advantages, he's just ON for the entire seasons.

survivor is surprisingly a lot like mafia

there's a ton of tonys (skilled powerwolves infiltrating the towncore; smooth talkers) and their respective trishes and woos (fooled towns in the towncore) in mafia and mashes and it's really interesting and it's made me reflect on how i play; knocking out the tony before lylo is how you win mafia games

woo is prevalent in almost every game with good powerwolves; submissive towns lose games.

tony definitely deserved the win and his play was extraordinary but he definitely could have and should have been voted off earlier; people catch powerwolves and get overlooked almost every time there's a powerwolf

also in retrospect i love j'tia she was so $%#!ing funny and in the mafia metaphor she is probably some manifestation of me

got the winner I was expecting after f8 happened. The edit was there, story was there, and xander was somewhat shunned by the players in the back half. They wanted a female or person of color to get it on the jury, and she fit perfectly. If deshawn played the f7 better and not have his blind side blow up in his face, it would have worked a lot better for him

xander deserved more than 0 votes imo but not the whole win after taking erika. alota power players got limmed which made it a lot more tamer final 3 than it coulda been.

I generally agree with this take but the jury just didn’t respect him for his lack of social awareness

can't believe no one here has talked about s42 but I think it's the best season since David vs Goliath and I really liked most of the contestants (except for Jonathan and Drea)

I never thought Maryanne could win the game just based on her personality alone. I thought her tribe mates would eventually get annoyed with her and she'd end up going out pre-merge. Boy was I surprised.

I knew she was the winner after she took out Omar the edit suggested that either Omar was gonna win or whoever took him out would win. That episode was a coronation for Maryanne and she played it so well. From convincing Jonathan and Maryanne to vote the backup target of Romeo instead of Omar, to use Romeo as a number when he's been outside of the main alliance all merge, to USING AN EXTRA VOTE CORRECTLY, that sold it for me that Maryanne was the winner.

I also really liked Mike. I would have been satisfied with a Mike win because he's such a fun guy. He gives Keith (I guess survivor really likes the older firefighter archetype) and also seems like such a lovely person. Him losing his idol in the pre-merge is hilarious, I love how he bonded with pretty much everyone on the cast. He could have won if he owned up to his behavior in FTC, rather than continuing with the "I'm an honest guy and I will never betray my allies" thing. I think the jury confessionals right before FTC helped explain why Mike lost to the more casual viewers because of the Xander uproar last season. Although there is still uproar which is dumb. Mike will probably come back soon and I expect him to place high again because he's so likable and I could see him winning a returnee season because I think he'll be more in tune to what a jury wants from him after this.

I LOVED ROMEO. MY BOYFRIEND AND I LOVE ROMEO. He had the best FTC from a goat period. He owned up and said this is NOT the game he wanted to play. He did not have delusions he could win at FTC like most goats do. Also his arc this season... the way he said he loves to help and empower strong women, and then he literally becomes a queenmaker after winning the final immunity challenge. I knew he was gonna bring Maryanne, there was no way he wouldn't allow such a strong player like Maryanne to make her case at FTC because he KNEW he was gonna lose. Also he dominated pre-merge on Ika. I hope to see him back soon.

Other favorites of mine from this season include Omar, Hai, Lydia robbed goddess Jenny, and ZACH! Zach is by far one of the most memorable first boots ever. If EoE didn't exist giving Reem and Natalie Anderson more screentime then Zach would have this title. I loved his dynamic with Maryanne on twitter, I love his openness about how he was disappointed to go out first but also had fun while the show aired. I want to see him back even though it's unlikely with his placement. Would also like to see Jenny come back because she got SCREWED by Chanelle and Daniel. I think she would've been a great player in the merge. (She's in communications like Erika so that's what I'm basing it on, but she had the unlikely ally of Mike so I think she'd connect with a lot of people)

i don’t agree that xander should’ve received any votes.

he did not have any moves of his own

he could’ve saved evvie in the split tribal council at the f10 and force danny/deshawn to eliminate shan’s right hand woman liana. It may have made Xander a target but he’d have allies in at least Evvie/Erika/Heather, and of course Shan would be royally pissed at Deshawn/Danny. honestly shan was kinda $%#!ed at F8 no matter what now that I think about it.

but yeah Xander didn’t do anything with his idol he just held onto it to protect himself even though everyone considered him a goat after the F10 split tribals lol.

Evvie Erika heather aren’t really Allies I’d make if it means pissing off everyone else? You’re still down in numbers and between the 3 of them they’re highly unlikely to ever win any challenges or have pull with the other players, it will essentially be on Xander to do everything. He’ll be seen as the leader of the alliance and then just get voted out

I think the way he outplayed liana was still one more move than what Erika made and the way he managed to survive all the way to endgame with an idol despite having players like liana gun for him is impressive. If you have an idol that everyone is aware and don’t play it but still survive that’s a good play not a bad one imo

That being said he defs had his flaws and don’t think he played amazingly, I think alota the players that season were pretty bad outside of liana and that dude whose name I forgot that betrayed her that she was close with from her original tribe. Though I think Xander was the best from the bad players lol

Tiffany and Evvie came up with the idea to bamboozle Liana when she tried to use knowledge is power, not Xander.

Also Heather/Erika would most likely align with Xander/Evvie in that situation because they both didn’t like Shan.
