Outside of mafia, I'm a college student studying applied math with a side of government but who can't not talk about all kinds of issues. Some hobbies are reading (fantasy/sci-fi mostly, with a side of history), video, board, card, and miniature games, playing RPGs, reading rule systems for RPGs, hiking/climbing, and trying new food.

Oh man where to start with books. Sanderson's works/the Cosmere. His Dark Materials series by Pullman. Growing up, my favorite series was probably Eragon and its sequels. Catch-22. The first two books (haven't read the third yet) of the Three Body Problem by Cixin Liu. Just read Hyperion which was pretty solid.

For video games, Wildermyth is a cool indie strategy-layer into grid-based rpg with the spin that your heroes get old and retire and live out a story during their lifespan and such. Fun, pretty good replay value, tugs on your emotions even if its not exceptionally deep.

Children of a Dead Earth is one of my favorite games in concept and execution as the closest simulation of what actual space-based combat would be like. I really don't think there is anything like it. Everything is customizable -- with hundreds of materials and toggles and sliders to build. If you have ever wanted to spend hours fiddling with the radius and power draws and materials and color of a single laser on your spaceship to better match up against certain thicknesses of rubber as opposed to carbon nanomaterial, this is the game for you.

Just finished the Well of Ascension.

Thought it was great.

Thought Sazed should just be the mc at this point tbh.

BUT

Thought that

Vin's character arc was constantly ramping up to some form of humbling to balance out her always making the most brash decisions possible whether or not they made sense in the moment, and that humbling being a literal voice saying three words in an evil tone, with the only indication that the voice was evil being that it said three words in an evil tone, with no directly observable consequences, except for Elend dying by Vin's choice, which was immediately undone, made the buildup and somber tone of the ending feel fake.

Thought that Zain's character, despite being intended to have the sex appeal Elend was missing, came off as a lazy "he has what you want but there's something wrong with him under the surface", and was mostly just creepy. Thought that Zain going out of his way to pin Vin to a wall in the middle of their death match, and kiss her, while stabbing her breast, was $%#!ing gross and completely unnecessary.

Thought the handling of most relationships besides Vin and TenSoon, and Elend and Tindwyl, was clunky, and the characters would be more compelling just being alone. Thought that the Sazed-Tindwyl stuff specifically being romantic was kind of an afterthought, which made Tindwyl's death hit Sazed way harder than I could relate to. Thought that for at least the first half of the book, Vin and Elend were struggling to find any form of affection that wasn't kissing.

Thought Straff was $%#!ing annoying, but that problem's solved.

IYO does Sanderson improve on some of these things in later books?

Darkest Dungeon Automated Role Madness might have been the most enjoyable game I've played? Pretty lowkey and chill game but was a lot of fun to play in and generally good vibes. Runner up is BM4.

I think I played the best in Mentor/Mentee 2020, living up to the name of the mentor/mentee chat "How to die night one." Good reads, thing it was one of my best games for working with others and such, and was super helpful and enjoyable. let's not talk about empoof

Best game overall is either Bastard Fiesta (my third game ever) or BM4.

Hrm. IRL it's probably something along the lines of "I promise that despite being a math nerd I definitely much enjoy doing all sorts of subjects and activities and parties and $%#!"

IRL there's a few embarrassing moments I can think of, but generally not too much I think I'm mostly happy with what people know about me?

That I'm short! Literally everyone I meet at college after knowing them through zoom university is shocked and lowkey I think that applies more broadly as well?

b) object permeance
c) awareness of own mortality
d) ability to learn
e) ability to use tools/invent better tools

A bunch of tall dudes who specialize into different fields. Progressive governments but conflicts still happen through path-dependency stuff probably. Across academic interests people do a lot of games of different sort, LARPing is done by about 65% of the population, most people play soccer but watch basketball, the world has 60% lefties. Most walking spaces have three points of contact handy because lots of people have bad balance.

idk how controversial it is but I'm increasingly convinced that reading low posters accurately is much much easier than high posters (regardless of alignment, but especially finding as town)

and that it is absolutely possible and often better than evaluating "cases" to read people as town from lack of tmi in single-to-three post sequences

i'd put subs are wolf indicative and it is now impossible to ignore and that is a. problem. but I don't want to rehash the feedback thread.

Uh yeah, I can see that. Part of it is probably sequel cliffhanger? I do think hero of ages make this clearer in some ways but I think in a lot of ways the intent was more the contrast between what Sazed was putting together and what everyone else thought was right than like, Vin's arc specifically.

Early Sanderson Romance and his relationships in general can be a bit rough, yeah. I think his handling of both like, what you're talking about with Zain does get better, but I think kind of Warbreaker marks a step up and then like, later stormlight also does better. Not every character is like, 100% compelling but I think there are steps in the right direction on the whole.

if we're on evens without an obvious way of going to odds (outside of killing the initial player), almost always

if we're on odds and don't seem to have a way to get back to odds after going to evens, depends on the relative confidence of different people but less likely

If there is other kp, probably, but depends somewhat more on gamestate than, say, I projected as a wolf in CoV

(although I believe if you have free kp on someone and chose not to use it you do literally have to IC them)

yes! Know I want to go into data analysis for a few years then grad school, still working on exact industry/field lol because there's a lot of options atp.

Favorite topic is probably graph theory/networks, favorite class at college so far probably real analysis.


And yeah, I think we did (my first FM game ever). Mostly left MS for the quicker games here but I've gone like "oh, its so-and-so from that game" for a couple people here (including you) for sure.
