what wisdom do you have to impart on us today
When was the first moment when you realized you enjoyed playing mafia??
#MahsaAmini
Who’s the best Champs champion other than Katze?
If Thingyman asked you to be staff on MU now would you say yes?
Man Yolo is like a legit good dude
Tier list the following types of mafia games:
- light
- normal
- mash
- turbo
- popcorn
I'm tying these two questions together for reasons you'll see
I originally started playing on Smashboards
I was 13 years old at the time and the E3 trailer for Smash Bros Brawl came out. I joined Smashboards thinking it would be a good hub to find out more about it as leaks and discussion came
One day while I was bored I saw a couple of games in the "Forum Games" section. They were in signups and I joined on a whim
I was town in both games. One was forgettable, but the other had been a pretty epic game. I think it was 20+ players and it had a lot of that oldschool high power game stuff. There was an SK, masons, cop, etc. All the classic roles
I join the game and forget my role, but I mostly just "float" in the thread and don't really grasp the concepts of scumhunting, reading for tells, argumentation, etc. I'm playing the game but it's in a really awkward way because I literally do not get the concept of the game. lmao
I remember seeing a bunch of the experienced players discussing cop results, who to lunch, making cases and so on. And I had little idea what the $%#! they were talking about or how to engage them
Eventually, I make it to F3.
I'm there with Ronike, the clear, and frozenflame, I think he was the SK. Frozenflame starts going off on me, dropping walls with quotes, $%#!ting on my play, etc. He had been the kind of SK who was at the forefront of the scumhunt throughout the game and was burying the $%#! out of me
I fought back because I knew my alignment and thus what arguments to make
After some back and forth, Ronike votes frozenflame with me and we win the game! I was this noob who had very little skill and didn't know what the $%#! was going on and I just beat this legendary player in an F3 thunderdome. It was David vs Goliath $%#!.
And thus my love for mafia/werewolf was born, going on to play mostly on Smashboards for years to come. Leading into the next question.....
So, that year Thingyman had been making MafiaUniverse and organizing the first season of Champs. He came to Smashboards and told us what he was planning to do. I think I was a mod at the time and we ended up speaking on Skype -- this was back when Skype was the big thing
He tells me more about it and links me the site. I had no intention of playing because Smashboards was still active in 2015, but I sign up with this account as a show of support. I thought it was cool he was trying to make his own scene for mafia
This means I didn't actively start playing on here til 2017. That said, I remember a lot of the players from back then
My first game was a Mass Effect themed game and I rolled wolf with ShipItUp, Mantichora, Kami, IAAFR/fluffy rabbit, Jan, etc. I remember SIU and rabbit were arguing in wolfchat over SIU bussing me. I think SIU got temp banned for flaming that game. That $%#! was so funny
Town had like Cron, Jowy, then...damn. I forget who else.
Other players I remember playing with or seeing play in 2017: BATMAN, Limestone, wolfy, Empoof, Duk3star, brainbomb, Panther, Goldenrod, Kaze, DoubtingThomas, sheepsaysmeep, Amrock, JohnCarter, Tangerine, Grant, Banks, SR, dyachei, ladd, etc.
Some of these names still play but these are the ones I don't see around much anymore. 2017-2019 era MU was extremely fun, every game had characters and felt like every playerlist was a banger
if i made an alt named katze13 how would u tell me and kaze apart

Why did you steal my sandwich you $%#!
What's your favorite type of cheese?

2. Mafia helped develop my critical thinking skills at an early age in life
By being forced to come up with counterarguments against townies or create a false narrative, it taught me how to look at things from different points of views. It also encouraged me to listen to my gut/instincts as well as building camaraderie with people either through being united for wincon purposes or just $%#!ing around in the thread
It also helped me learn how to work with other people in a lot of different scenarios
The main thing would be "critical thinking and listening to my gut instincts"
Smashboards: My favorite game....man. I think my favorite towngame was this one on Smashboards based on Tales of Symphonia where pretty much all my scumreads were right and I helped lead lunches on like 4 or 5 wolves in a row for a sweep
Favorite scumgame: this one where I was in a team of 4 or 5 wolves and I was leading the town around. The SK actually shot me that game to get rid of a town leader and was surprised I flipped red
MU games: Town.....There was this game called Heavy Hitters back in 2019 that had like Shattiel, Grant, Marluxion, LordQuas, baudib1, Michelle, LanMisa, Viggorous, BATMAN, etc. which just had a lot of fun personalities and good $%#!posting mixed in with srs wolfhunting. The town had a synergy to it and all the players were enjoyable
At F5 with 2 lunches left Quas and BATMAN started lightly tunneling each other despite both being townread for a lot of the game. It made sense from their points of view but lategame paranoia was a factor too. I was trying to talk Quas off BATM then I hammered Trustworthy Liberal for a win. Just a dramatic finish
I remember being on the train back from school and hammering, dreading a potential F3. Then Duk3 came online 10 minutes later and was like gg town wins. So satisfying
Honestly most of my villa games from 2017-2019 were fun as hell and I liked pretty much all of them
Oh another was this Naruto game Guillo hosted in 2020. I towncored with BATMAN and DoubtingThomas, shady, I remember anne and alexa were in that game too (I think one of their first games on here?). We were able to sweep and it was just fun the whole time, also it was funny because DT would come in and start casing me/BATMAN while we were some of the top read villagers but I get why he did it. It added an interesting dynamic to the game
Oh $%#! my Poisoner 21er invitational in late 2021 was really fun too
Wolfing: The Cats vs Dogs invitational last year where I was teamed with Seven/Illwei, arogame123, risiinq- and Ryker. Had a lot of strong villagers there. I got lunched D5 but helped aro endgame with our distancing
I see your other questions but gotta run some errands
I notice you’re skipping the tough questions
"it added an interesting dynamic to the game" sounds like an insult forced into being a compliment 💀

B Tier - Light - I like the chill vibes and it's nice to not have to post 200x for clout. I can't help but feel the stakes feel a bit muted tho
D Tier - Popcorn - Doesn't do much for me
I'm Not Sure What to Rate This Tier - Mashes - Not my thing, they can be fun at times but they amplify the worst parts of the game IMO. But a mash with the right team can feel very fun. The experience can vary so much it's hard to give a rating to, I would rate it a D with a gun to my head
lol i dont remember this game even a little
:wiwe
how much do you follow the smash scene at all rn?
any fav players/personalities?
who's the melee goat?
the non-melee goat?
any characters you hate?

also what made you get into art? i didnt know that abt you until recentish

💀
I got you on your (and others’) questions tomorrow
I started taking art classes in college after getting my Bachelors because I still had X amount of months for tuition to be funded. I took art because I thought it would be easy and ended up falling in love with it.
To me art is freedom, there are no limits, you can create whatever you want and however you want. There are rules to follow if you want, or you can break and subvert them or both. It's also little upstart (a pen and pad) for a lot of gain with an endless skill ceiling. A lifelong hobby for me!
1. Very little but not zero. I see some matches pop up on my YouTube feed that I check out sometimes
2. Ultimate: I like Nario, Light lmao, Marss, FatalityFalcon and Tweek. Basically all the goons lmao
Melee: mang0 and Zain crack me up. I got to see mang0 in person at Apex 2015, it was here in Jersey
3. Melee GOAT is Armada. This man shut down EVERYONE and was the ultimate gatekeeper. Once he left the meta, that's when you started seeing other players getting dominant runs that they couldn't do while he was around. mang0 is also a fine answer as he is probably Melee's protagonist in terms of pure storytelling
4. MKLeo, Zero, probably Sparg0 in the future. M2K honorable mention for juggling Melee while being dominant in other games
5. I hate Steve, Pacman, Sonic, pretty much any character whose playstyle revolves around camping and spamming projectile, making it a platform game where you have to spend half the time dodging obstacles
when nairo does a nair do you go "o"

I don't know but they sound like someone who needs a diss track dropped on em
I love to make friends and invite all random DMs to talk about nothing -- I like getting to know people and letting conversations flow into friendship and try to be approachable
Hmm, I'm not that sure. There is nothing that comes to mind, my L's are my L's and worrying about others' opinions on it is unproductive in my eyes
I think a lot of people think I'm a conventional player when I'm not. I lately tend to get wolfread when I'm town and townread when I'm wolf. I know how to towntell but largely don't care to as town -- I don't play the game for others. I've done that and results have been the same, I just YOLO now
Slap it in the face and talk some $%#!, see if they react like a human
This is a really good question
I'm sure there's something but nothing interesting comes to mind after some thought
That's gonna be a no from me dawg
No, I was going to come up with some joke about how pineapples have too much citrus but I just googled and learned that they have no citrus 💀
gamer, the turbos we've played have been fun and the katze diss track turbo is still one of the funniest games I've ever seen
Honorable mention: tu madre
SquareBeared. I have no beef with this alt but it's the only other one I remember off the top of my head so here by default
I like it. It's like a brand. Playful, high $%#!post potential and can lead to some fairly enjoyable memes
And I'd do it again
Hm. Creative and varied, open-minded as well, but probably a lot less human connection as I am pretty to myself
It's a lot more impressive to be a strong villager consistently than a wolf -- I feel like being an effective villager is much harder than a wolf due to all the variables, not to say that don't both take great skill
I'm not sure, I'm going to reiterate that I think mashes are mostly bad, but sometimes you're in the mood for junk food
Ya
First: lmao who is this $%#!poster, okay they're probably town they seem to be kinda meek
Current: Really cool person, funny, fun to be around and meme with and also I consider a friend. There have been many times where we have been arm-in-arm in $%#!posting and trolling on Discord which I feel is an important role to play for the health of any meta. I feel like we have a similar outlook and share a mission. Fantastic player as well of course, really enjoy your company
I'm not sure tbh, I am actually not too knowledgeable on cats as I am a dog person![]()
I think Void is a good choice as he is an intelligent dude who has shown he can share his talents in almost any field he chooses
Zackray and Tweek also come to mind. Smart guys who believe in their own ability to reach an answer on something before the meta does -- you see this in their tierlists
why would anyone think some1 named "yoloswag" is conventional lmao

I'll use this to name some of my favorite players who I think are excellent, fun to play with and add something unique to a game: BATMAN, DoubtingThomas, Maven89, Ryker, ladd, Gorf, katze, Visorslash, MacDougall, Mantichora, Esooa, spf, anne, alexa, risiinq-, Duk3star, Zack, Seven, Prince J, JohnCarter, waza, baudib1, Chelsea, IAAFR....$%#! how often do you get hit with the "this guys named yoloswag and isnt being very yolo or swag rn" reads and how accurate are they

Hell yeah
The main thing I try to teach is independence and critical thinking. To be able to conduct yourself on your own. And I try to build up their confidence in them being able to be themselves
A lot of times a person with a disability will try to communicate with others but they don't know how so they come across as awkward and the person shrugs them off. But it's often understandable on the person's part because if someone is acting strange I understand wanting to protect oneself
I do not know how to improve this on a larger level. I think if your average person spent a week, or even a day, in a special education classroom or an environment where they spend time like a home, a lot of people would find it fascinating and have more empathy and understanding
I don't know if it's wisdom but I'd say believe in your own personality and that you have something to contribute without crossing over into a territory of arrogance
Don't waste time trying to impress others or be something that you're not
Don't be overconfident and give things time to develop, look at things from all angles and always consider that you could be wrong because I am someone who has had $%#! blown up in their face from overconfidence. Don't ever think you have all the answers and be willing to say "I don't know"
Don't waste time manipulating or compromising TOO much in a friendship, relationship, etc. The truth tends to come to the surface and even if something is going how you want it to, it isn't real if you're being fake, holding a bunch of things back, etc.
Avoid saying "I could never do X." I think the concept of talent is misconstrued and misunderstood. I see people say, "I could never draw that, I can only draw a stick" or "that singer is so talented." A lot of these things can be learned, it's a matter of finding the right teacher/method that works for you and chipping away at it in a productive way over time
Believe in your ability to learn about something that interests you and don't waste energy comparing yourself to others -- we're each on different paths dealt different hands
If there are things I could tell myself 10 years ago I think these would probably be it
I'd have to talk to them about it and see what the responsibilities and time commitment is like
I most likely would not but would at least consider it
I don't have the fire to play werewolf the way I used to but still love the game, on one hand it could be an opportunity to contribute to the game but on the other I have a lot on my plate and police enough at work. Not sure if I'm trying to do it during my free time without some tangible payoff
I don't know bruh
I think most expectations are for someone to post a lot, explain every thought they have, etc. As town I play more on gut/timing and trying to push toward a more solvable gamestate longterm. The thing I like doing most is asking questions to gauge people and force them to commit to something longterm that you can look back on later
That's my favorite playstyle. If I could spend every phase just asking questions and dropping a vote at EOD I would do that but there has to be some compromise
lmao
I think I could tell pretty soon because I'm not sure you'd be able to resist making a post that has your trademark sense of humor
We once had a guy counterclaim dayvig. I am not making this up and it ended just as you'd expect. It's been a meme on our homesite for years cuz it was so funny
We had a lot of wild thunderdomes and high-stakes games that felt epic in scale, especially because we would often play with longer deadlines which created a gravitas to a game as you were there grinding for a few weeks for your wincon
I can't do the whole history of Smashboards mafia justice but it was a really dynamic community with a lot of fun and colorful personalities. Lots of epic games and memorable moments. It was a special time in a lot of our lives because we were largely in our late teens into early 20s growing up together thru this silly game
Shoutout to @Gorf, @Spak, @Maven89, @Ryker, @Prince J @FrozenFlame, @bessie, @heuristically_alone, @somitomi, @Eido and all my Smashboards/xkcd homies. Actually @Wisp too he played on there recently, that's honorary Smashboards
It's unfortunate that I don't think there will be a scenario where I can pay you back but if there ever was -- like meeting you IRL -- I would legit buy you several of them
I appreciate you keeping this meme going, it's been literally for over my half my lifetime at this point which is pretty hilarious. I want it to go til death
American
I don't know much about cheeses -- this is the one I always buy at Subway and it tastes pretty good so I'll keep it simple
It feels like a lot
My playstyle has changed over the years. I used to never get ML'd in like 2017-2018 but that was often because I would really dedicate so much time to a game. I was unemployed and just in school and this was an outlet to $%#! around in so I could just post all day. I used to be a lot more invested and lead lunches, etc.
Over time I've had less time to play and got more interested in leveling my ranges while playing unconventionally for fun and reactions' sake
So idk. There's a disconnect. I contribute to it as well, I could do more to be townread by the average player but to be real with you I don't sign up to jump thru others' hoops
Didn't know princej was from smash, just recently played with them, great player
$%#! I'm still on my hydra
Soooooooo my long time homie is finally having an AMA? Oh yes~
1.) What would you say would have been your most sinster play in a game that you are proud of/
2.) Name the biggest hard-body crew moment you can recal from your mind?

4.) What's been your favorite play that gobsmacked you?
5.) What's a moment you miss from the past in mafia? Inversely, what's a favorite new thing from modern mafia?
6.) *bonk*?

Haha, yeah I look at my Post Count sometimes and even just like "wait...wha...?"
Mainly because I don't feel like I have but evidence shows I truly have :skull:
